Mainelady, going grey will often affect one's colour choice. If I still had dark hair, I think I would have chosen black, white, blue and red. After turning grey, I wear much more grey (always with the addition of a non-neutral) and less black (in particular around my face). Clear red feels too strong/harsh for me now and is replaced by bluered. When I was young, I somehow managed to look good in colours like rust and olives, but as the years has passed, I have become ever more convinced that clear cool colours are the best for me. Best wishing for your greying process and style evolution.

The brunette me would have said black, blue and gray (all shades). The going gray me really had to think on this. I currently think blues, reds and tans. If I could choose 4 colors I would add olive. I reserve the right to change my mind as my hair continues to change.

Our home palette is designed to enhance and be enhanced with nature: creamy walls, natural woods (mid to light tones) and greens are in all the living spaces. Two bedrooms and the laundry room have deeper colors of deep coral, coffee with cream and bold red.....funny how those are colors I like to wear.

Blue, white, black, and red if I could only chose four for my wardrobe. My home has blond floors, taupe walls, black furniture, and lots of modern pictures in bright colors. Fun question!

Fun question! Mine would be blue in all shades, white, black, and a fourth...burgundy. The next color in the lineup would be silvery grey, followed by cool olive. Except for a bit of fuchsia, that pretty much sums up all the colors in my wardrobe.

Black, cobalt, red. I do wear white accents here and there, but I don't really have any items of clothing that are fully white. I'd more or less be fine with just black as long as my scarves and shoes could vary!

White, black and grey. These are my core colors. My home interior decor is done in these colors, too but in different proportions. I wear a lot of black, in my house black is a color for accents ( accessories).

Gray, camel, cream and blue - a warm blue, specifically.

I have too much black in my wardrobe - because it’s easy to buy - and would love to phase it out eventually.

I would have to go with black, cream and blue (quite predictable)....

There are lots of shades of blue I like including denim, kingfisher blue, navy blue...but maybe that is cheating.

In my home I would go with cream/off white and brown (I have lots of wood).....

I hope I don't have to choose though:)

Fun thread, interesting to see what people like.

Style Fan, you say "all my life", and I don't know your age, but your color combo is exactly what I associate with the 1970s. :-)

kerry, fun that you would choose the same colours as me. And great that you dare to be a minimalist and pick only one colour. If I could pick only one, that would be blue too--in several shades.

efbgen, what interesting conversation subjects! The beauty of conversations like these is that there is no right and wrong, everybody can participate, and the choices may tell us something about each others' personalities etc.

I love this thread!!!
Gray- blue- aqua
Most of my wardrobe is gray and navy for bottoms and green- blues( aqua through teal) for tops

My house has sage green, eucalyptus blue-green, rose pink and grey. Very soft/soothing. I also like wearing those colours.

Thank you all for lots of interesting and (different!) solutions. I would have guessed there were more black & white preferences. Good to see the variety.

Angie, the four colours you picked are exactly the ones I would have guessed. :-)

La Pedestrienne, very nice and well-thought goals for your wardrobe and your home.

Suz, red is a wonderful addition and always adds pizzazz.

Katerina, a great combo for your colouring and dramatic elegant style!

Isabel and others, I didn't say people could only pick three colours. I asked: "Which FEW colours ....?" "Few" can mean two, three, four or perhaps more, dependant on how you interpret "few". I picked three, which is my minimum. When planning my daily outfits and when packing for a weekend away, I like to limit my main colours to three, though not necessarily the ones I have mentioned above. When traveling for longer time than a long weekend, I usually base my wardrobe on 4 colours--2 neutrals and 2 non-neutrals. Patterned scarves etc. may include additional colours.

krishnidoux, what a beautiful, soft colour combo--surely great with your colouring!

Cardiff girl, of course you are allowed to wear all shades of red and blue if that's what you like.

grey, blues with warm undertone, and leopard for clothing. Every time I see a grey t that I want/love, I have to look at the already 15 grey t's in my wardrobe to see how this one would be different :-/ I'm brunette and fair skinned, so pure black and pure white are less well suited.

My home is predominately grey, ivory, warm light red, and blue, with dark wood as the furniture choice. I really like the look and personality of distressed items. but I'm in a smallish space, so minimalism without overdoing the shabby chic is more comforting and it doesn't get too twee. I get my RATE on in my wardrobe.

Black, grey, and fuchsia/cranberry make up about 90% of my wardrobe. I'm trying to branch out a bit, so I'm adding olive green and aquamarine capsules. I'm not sure about the aquamarine. Dark and moody just seems to suit me best.

Fun question!
These days, it would be: nude, sage green and antique rose.

Black and olive definitely but I'm having a hard time showing between purple or pink for the third color. Maybe pink. My home decor colors are completed different - grey, blue, lavender, white, etc.

Same as yourself, although in my home there's a lot of wood which warms things up significantly.
The most obviously interesting aspect of this question so far is how many people refuse to stay within the parameters of three!
