I think I've gotten a lot of bravery from YLF and other fashion sites. My "risks" include:
very vintage looking pieces
browns (not just black)
booties (a total Angie influence!)
slouch boots
skinny jeans (I remember her first iffy post on them years ago)
colors!
scarves

My beret has been a successful foray into the had world. The beret, scarf, long sleeve top, trench coat and jeans have gotten me out the door faster on days when I didn't know what to wear. I look forward to finding a summer hat.
Other things I've tried that have pleasantly surprised me:
skinny jeans
skinny jeans tucked into boots
full length leggings under dresses/skirts
draped cardigans
batwing sweater
scarves
studded belts, bags and shoes
Angie's motgo of knee length denim jeans with high boots

wow this is really interesting - to read the things you guys are now embracing!

I'm such a newbie here that I think the only things I've taken on so far are:

leggings under dresses - LOVE IT
Accessories - I actually have a small collection now
Skinny jeans - only have my 1 home-altered pair, but I'm itching for more already!

It would be interesting to review this every year and see just how much everyone changes...

Dawn I just wanted to say once again that I love your over the knee boots. I tried on a few inexpensive pairs at Target today, and while I didn't love those pairs in particular, this is a style I'm considering trying as well this winter if I spot another reasonably inexpensive pair. In fact I'm going to go look at your pics again now for inspiration!

Oh, I love this thread:

Grey skinny jeans- when I posted my first photo of them on YLF, I thought they would be a return item. Instead, they received many positive comments and now have become an essential item in my wardrobe.

Cutting my hair short!

Over-the-knee boots... and styling them in a classy way. I've even worn my boots to my part-time job where all my female co-workers, including my boss, love them.

Fishnets, microfishnets and all associated lace tights- these tend to receive some funny feedback. Some of my male friends have called them hooker tights while my female friends love them...

Heels... actually, proper non-Converse shoes for daily wear!

I feel like my whole wardrobe is one big fashion risk and yes, it has paid off! High necklines is probably the biggest risk because they really are not flattering on me, but they have definitely paid off after finding out how to style them. I feel much more comfortable in them.

Belts over cardies
Moto jacket
Skinny jeans with boots (eek never thought I would say that!)
Adding more color into my wardrobe

- white jeans
- *small* heels
- yellow watch
- pencil skirt
- white woven tunic top (still to wear this yet)

I don't think of myself as all that adventurous, but since I've been here I've tried...

Batwing tops
Microfishnets
Trouser jeans
Skinny jeans tucked into tall boots
Belting shirts and cardigans
Button downs (I tried a little before, but now I wear them all the time)
Scarfs, knit and silk
Leggings (I wore them in the 90s, but not since, I bought a pair but haven't started wearing them yet)

Other than the leggings, these have all become part of my regular wardrobe.

Oh, such a long list for me!!

Slimmer-cut pants, including skinnies
Leggings (still mastering it)
Non-black footwear (particuarly loving the versatility of metallic shades)
Huge necklaces that actually go over my tops
Moto jackets (my leather one is one of my favourite pieces)
Embracing scarves
Pearls (they come out several times a week now)
Proper-length summer pants (i.e. clams); I was never comfortable exposing my calves before
Layering (not doing so now feels odd)

As you can see, none of these are especially groundbreaking, but collectively they've made a world of difference to my style confidence.

I"ll add to my list...
leggings,
white button down
pearls (I would have thought them old lady before)
fishnets
"winterizing" a summer dress
dressing down a dressier dress with sandals and or denim jacket
pretty much just trying just about anything to see if it works. sometimes I'm stumped at what to do with something, and I'll pull out the most unlikely candidate from my closet and am pleasantly suprised a the results!

Booties. I realize that doesn't sound very revolutionary to most of you here, but I'm a very staid dresser. After checking in here daily for a couple of weeks, I mustered the courage to wear my Clark's Cone Sweet booties with a dress to dinner and a play earlier this week.
Will probably wear the same outfit again this weekend on a trip, since the pieces travel well and will suit the weather where I am going.
Now if only I could knew what to do about bag, jewelry, etc.....

i've always been pretty open to trying anything at least once, actually... but i think ylf has opened my eyes to how many more possibilities and boundaries there are to be pushed, and how to do that as tastefully as possible.

Oh, I've pushed the envelope with loads of stuff, generally more in the fall (summer style is simpler for me, and not as much of an investment since the season is short). Right now I am looking for the next fashion envelope to push! I've gotten a little bored with the items I know are guaranteed to work for me ... San is really inspiring me right now, actually!

Denim leggings! I still won't do skinnies due to comfort and bulging from the waistband under tunics, but I LOVE my denim leggings tucked into boots. I also tried a top in chartreuse, and it really worked out.

Skinny jeans, boots over skinnes, and pencil skirts! I never wore any of those items pre-YLF.

Skinny jeans here too. As a pear I thought boot cuts were my only flattering option, but I searched and found flattering skinnies. Woohoo!

Leggings are another risk I started taking this winter, now I love the look.

A new risk I'm looking forward to this Spring is wearing cropped/capri leggings.

Skinny jeans. I never thought they would work with my pear body but I love them now.

That would be Converse. I didn't get the whole Converse thing until YLF, and now I'm a fan.

Another would be white bottoms. I still shudder at the thought of light-colored bottoms, but have acquired white skinnies and white clams, and they do work well in the spring and summer.

Last would be wearing the color camel (or butterscotch). Angie picked out a pleather jacket for me in that color (I shy away from warm tones, especially near my face), that I wouldn't have in a million years considered, and now it's one of my favs! I get tons of compliments on it.

I'm still a beginner and not very adventurous at all.

I know belting tops isn't a risk, but I was kind of nervous to belt sweaters because most people around me aren't doing that. I was afraid I'd look funny, but I liked the effect and now probably do it too much!

I bought leggings, which is so out of my comfort zone, and wore them yesterday under a denim skirt, but didn't really like the look even though a couple of my friends said I looked cute:

http://whenlifehandsyouapear.w.....today-ick/

I also got really layer happy this winter. I never used to layer anything but I saw on blogs that women are layering sweaters over sweaters, and pretty much any other combination out there, so I got 'daring' <snicker> and have layered woven button downs under knit tees:

http://whenlifehandsyouapear.w.....y-24-2010/

http://whenlifehandsyouapear.w.....ter-jeans/

It's not much, but for me, who basically lived in v-neck t-shirts and jeans before, it's been a stretch.
