Thank you again ladies for your input. If it is MOTG or WOTG it still means we are making swift moves from here to there with stylish durability. So my thought is taking more shape for maybe an idea of how I should be dressing or adding to my wardrobe. I know for certain i will keep an eye out for a nice slim fit jegging or leggin to help move me along and I already have certain blazers in my wardrobe so I will see how they adapt to my MOTG looks. I just need to have maybe 5 go to versions that I just can be sure about.

You seem on the right track. I also try to make an effort to wear non sweatsuits in the weekend :). All of the tips above are good. I add a personal element through my signature colors and always adding some structure, like a jacket or even a shirt (that still works a little rumpled), lots of denim bottoms. For you that personal touch could be color, print, certain non-delicate accessories...
I sometimes do lunch - but only with my husband so there’s two of us for one baby

It all depends on where the mom is going and how her finances and free time are? My WOTG has been rushing from here to there to get everything done as best as possible under the circumstances. I would love it to be ladies who lunch easy going but it has not been like that for me.

I just think of it as moms being busy. I work full time so it's all the afternoons/evenings I spend schlupping kids to soccer practice, making dinner, running errands, band concerts, etc. On weekends, it's soccer games, swimming lessons, errands, walking to the park, dinner with friends, etc. Since I have a 4-year old, I generally don't wear any kind of a heel around him. He's generally a good kid that sticks around, but every once in a while, I need to chase him down.

Bijou This is my life now and you have given me some great suggestions. I really need a durable stylish backpack.

Lesley I've been going the sweats route lately It is time to step up.

Donna F I had to give up the dangle earrings for now. My DD broke one to many.

efbgn- This is my life to a T lol Okay love the detail.

Rachy Lou I'm trying to look for that one piece of denim jacket that I can throw on and still be stylish yet take baby spit up. and jam hands

Thank you all so much this has given me more of an idea of what Woman on the Go really means. I'm trying to create a practical yet stylish wardrobe for me. I still want it to be artistic and funky but I need practical as well I wear denim every day for work so most time's I'm denim worn out or just over it. Maybe jeggings in different colors are a way to go.

Ledonna - I wish!

MOTG means being versatile. For me, it means jeans, boots or sandals, a blouse / top / knit / t-shirt and a jacket.

With a small child it involves being a cart horse, carrying around the largest bag with nappies, a spare change of clothing for small child, tissues, wipes, a drink, a snack, a toy...wearing shoes that you can chase a small child down in, and not wearing much jewellery unless it is indestructible (I wore a lot of Dinosaur Designs jewellery for this reason).

Now I have a 9 year old, I can safely wear heels, carry a small bag and wear dangly earrings. I do miss the days when I had a small person clinging to my leg - so cute!

Not sure when we added "on-the-go" to the Mom label... I have yet to meet a mother who just sits around doing nothing!

I work from home, but I am a mom of 3 in an uber-casual city. I often register as "dressed up" because I put together an outfit, but it is quite casual—just not as casual as the people around me who wear sporty clothes. I have a nice collection of jeans that I love and chunky sweaters in winter and good tees and tops in the summer, and I always have on either a necklace or earrings on to turn it into a look of sorts. If I am just jumping into shoes for school drop off or pickup, it's usually Sven clogs; on a longer excursion with the kids I'll put on fun sneakers or flats or boots, depending on the season. The switch happens on the weekends—I dress up a little nicer for socializing, and many of my friends (who dress up for work all week) are more casual than I am!

Well, since busy mothers were busy mothers before MOTG became a label, I’d say the term refers to any woman with an active life who requires practical clothing but who still wants to feel good about her appearance. Back in the 70’s, before the term was invented, when I had young children, that meant a wardrobe of jeans/pants/cotton skirts and dresses/low-heeled shoes/boots/ T-shirts/sweaters/denim jackets/blazers/anoraks. Actually, not too different than how I dress now as a senior.

Maybe the term should be WOTG—Woman On The Go? And maybe should apply to any woman who wants to look good while leading a busy, active life in situations without defined dress codes?

MOTG to me means going to soccer practice, going grocery shopping, taking my child to his music lesson, going to the nursery (for plants), having the car smogged, walking the dogs, picking up dry cleaning, going to the library, etc. Pretty glamorous, I must say. Even though my son is grown up, I dress like a MOTG, because my life is pretty much the same, minus the music lessons and soccer practice.

I might be a lady who lunches, except instead of lunch, we generally get together with our dogs. So I avoid wearing anything that needs dry cleaning.

Never pictured Ladies Who Lunch as MOTG. To me it means practical accessories if one is an accessories person: No dangly earrings or necklaces that can be pulled or result in strangulation; studs for the time being. Comfy shoes, boots, or booties meaning no sky high heels. Machine washable and not fragile. Can be worn all day. And yes, can be cute. Not a business look. More colorful and friendly looking than the gray and black that I gravitate to now.

LeDonna-
My MOTG days are in the rear view mirror but my lifestyle and budget never supported the TV / magazine version of MOTG. Never went to the gym, never lunched with friends- I always was and looked harried and frazzled. My focus was my family not my looks.
When I was in the middle of it - dressed in business casual I would drive to 2 different day care centers ( 1 center M-W-F/ other T-Th) then onto work. Lunch at desk. Pick up at daycare then run errands/ grocery shop. Once home changed to grubby clothes to cook dinner. Weekends were jeans for trip to laundry mat and slacks & blazer for checking on both sets of parents ( 1 Sat 1 Sun) - dressed up for church.
Once daughter was older- I was still dressing in work casual but driving her to school because her bus would make me late for work. Still ate at desk w/ homemade lunch. Then after school/ evenings were PTA meetings, class mother meetings, taking her to after school activities, grocery shopping , appointments etc still in work clothes.
Then she joined Irish Dance Team- practice several times a week and feis competitions every weekend. Then onto check on parents .Jeans or dress slacks with blazer was my usual on the go outfit on feis competition days.
Now she is out of house and I am retired. Keep my business casual clothes most days with jeans on laundry , cleaning or yard work days. 1 day a month I lunch with ladies and dress nice. Also dress nice on the occasional date night with hubby.
In retrospect I could have done more to be fashionable ........

For me it means smart casual, being ready to run errands, and go about your day feeling ok about your outfit and not having to apologize for it. I don't think moms have time very often to do ladies lunch but are often out and about.

I feel it means you are constantly on the go once you are up - school drop off, work, run to the shops, dance class carpool, making dinner, homework time, taking out the trash, etc etc. You have to look polished but actually be dressed pretty rugged at the same time.

My go-to was a peplum Marc Jacobs canvas, jean-type jacket. Lol.

My MOTG capsule is geared toward dogs now, not kids But what works for function and lifting, or multiple errands, and getting people/animals in and out of the car are lean cuts that don't flap and catch on things or need adjusting. If I'm moving fast: stretchy pocket leggings or skinny stretchy jeans, a fitted top, jacket (with pockets that fasten to carry phone and wallet), closed toe walkable shoes, a small crossbody bag. Add a duffle bag of dog gear with shoulder strap -- it all works for a day trip or going cross country. Add a hat, sunglasses, and gloves for cold weather. It helps if everything is washable. Waterproof sneakers are my friend 9 months of the year.

If I'm meeting friends at a coffee shop, then stretchy cropped pants with zip pockets, no handbag, a nice cardigan or topper, a pair of sandals kept in the car for 'smart casual' wear.

For lunch with friends (dogs left at home) I can break out a dress and fashionable topper. I've had lunch out exactly 3 times in the last two months so I'm hardly an expert at this one!

Quite literally, "on the go." So, not lunching. But definitely running to sports practice and games, Boy Scouts, etc. For me, that's a tidy, but not dressy look- jeans, knit top, and extra layer if it's cool, and my ever trusty Dansko's. I do have a work wardrobe, and focus my time and money on that, keeping the MOTG stuff pretty simple.
