Because I wasn't clear -- plastic sheet, towel, and then sweater shaped and pinned on top. Pin it evenly down the sides and around waistband/armholes etc. if you are using a bed or a cork board or whatever you just push the pins right into the surface.

Ha! I assumed from the title this was about blocking with knitting too!

Ok, soak it, gently squeeze out water, roll it up in a towel and stomp on it to get water out. Then lay it out on a flat surface and pin it using quilting pins all around the sides and bottom to hold it in place. You can use a bed with a plastic sheet and then a towel on top. Pinning it while drying it flat will make sure it won't twist on you.

Ceit, it's 100% cotton. I've washed it in cold on delicate and dried it flat, but it's still gotten kind of misshapen looking.

I was hoping this was about blocking a sweater! One of my sweaters has gotten shapeless at the bottom, and I was wondering if I could somehow shape it back up the next time I wash and dry it.

I am not sure, actually, I have never had to block anyone. I suggest you post in the Help and Support part of the forum, and Greg will likely be able to answer you in more detail!
Oh. Well, some more context would have been useful.

I assume when you block a user you do not see their posts, and they cannot message you.
Do you mean for knitting?

It sets the stitches and the shape of the object. It's most magical with lace knitting, which looks like a snarled mess, and then wonderful as the pattern appears when you shape it.
