Thanks again guys. I'm feeling a bit better today. My sympathy to everybody else who is sick right now!

Laura, I'm not at work -- I'm a student, I have school-aged kids and a husband who works overtime, and parents who need assistance. So life doesn't stop. :-)(Mercifully, my own classes ended last week though). Today I took my mom, who's a dementia sufferer, out shopping for my dad for Christmas. It was actually kind of fun, although a bit like taking a goat to the shopping centre.

So many of you speak highly of ponte knit pants. I've never owned a pair! Maybe I should. I'm not a fan of leggings because I find the waistband is always too high.

I have to admit, it was cold and dry today, and I went out all over the place in my Uggs. I don't care if I look like a soccer mom; they're cozy. ;-)

Oh how horrible to have to get going and carry on when you're sick. In situations where that is a necessity, I also wear the comfiest clothes I can find. No zips, ties, buttons, or snaps if possible, and it's got to be forgiving in the tummy area.

Feel better soon!

If I have to look put-together (i.e. PJs are not an option) when I'm sick, it's ponte all the way- at least for bottoms. For tops, I also go with cozy and soft knits.

Do you have to work while sick?

On sick days, I wear a comfy sweater, a scarf, jeans over tights and a pair of all Uggs. I want to be as comfy as possible!

Well, I am pretty sick with nasty cold right now, so feel quite qualified to answer this. While at home it is super warm fizzy socks, fleecy sweatpants, soft tee with a very warm cardi. If I have to go out and people will see me, than I wear soft skinnies - either flannel or ponte material, oversize sweater dress and comfy flat booties. War scarf, hat and puffer are a must as well.

I hope you are feeling better. I go for comfort and warmth when I don't feel well.
I have a friend who does what Angie said. She is a very glamorous lady who recently went through very serious disease. She dressed beautifully as always and she felt that it helped her get through her illness.

Thanks for your responses, all! I didn't reply yesterday as I had to go out in the morning, and when we got back in the afternoon I fell asleep on the couch and didn't move off of it until bedtime -- at which time I just moved my carcass upstairs and went back to sleep. ;-) Apparently nineteen hours of sleep was what I needed though. I'm feeling somewhat better today.

Very interesting to hear your 'sick day' choices. Angie, I'm not at all surprised that you change nothing when your'e sick! Mind you, you are also physically comfortable in articles of clothing (high collars, tight hose) that I find constricting at the best of times. Kkards, interesting that you want to wear black when you're sick to match your mood! Thistle, yes, I don't care much when I'm sick either, but I should note that I was wearing my 'good' jeans yesterday -- that is, my 'good' jeans are also my most comfortable ones (Citizens Racer, in case anyone is interested). I'm a fan of everyday comfort. E, I've heard a lot of women say they don't like the zipper on their abdomen, but for some reason this doesn't bother me. My jeans aren't super-tight, though. Astrid, I took my bra off as soon as I got home yesterday.

My fall back for business casual is ponte knit black trousers, soft black turtleneck, and soft loose sweater or (gasp!) frumpy cardi. Yep, don't much care when I am sick ;)

I hope you feel better soon! When I'm not sick enough to stay in bed and can't avoid going out I'm dressing as comfortable as I possibly can without being dressed inappropriately. For me that means absolutely nothing restricting (no belts!) and warm and cozy. Soft fabrics also feel best. So no jacket, but tees and knits. I'm also taking care to keep my feet cozy and wear warm socks. When I'm not really going anywhere I also leave the bra off - so uncomfortable when I'm sick, especially when I have the cough (which is pretty much every time I'm sick). I'm prone to get bronchitis.

Interesting.

I've been very under the weather the last two weeks - chest virus and sinus infection. Finally got through it with the right meds and rest. (Postponed client appointments and outings, and was indoors for a week). I wore what I usually wear - no changes at all. Just made sure I was extra warm. I showered every morning, styled my washed hair, and put on make-up. I am an absolute style DIE-HARD. Altering what I wear or my grooming routine when I'm sick makes me feel even sicker.

Sorry you're ill, Elisabeth. It's grotty and I hope you feel better soon. Sending lots of feel better energy and much love. xo

I'm sorry you're ill, and I hope you feel better soon.
I only think comfort when I'm ill. Loose, soft, cosy. However, whatever it is, the colour is important to make you look less dead with no effort, so for me that's probably blue.

I either opt for a sleeveless dress and super comfy cardi over top or side zip trousers (my abdomen doesn't like the fly zipper in jeans when it's upset), a silk blouse, and cosy cardi over that. I also pick my favourite soft colours, as they make me feel more comforted.

Ugh! Migraine days and viral days when I still have to push myself to work, I wear my J Crew Matchstick Jeans, a cozy cashmere sweater,or one of my hand knit over sized sweaters, and I pop on some tall boots lined in flannel. In cooler winter the top may change to an embellished sweatshirt, or a neat t-shirt. No make -up. I always wear my watch, my rings, some stud earring at minimum, and at least one bangle.

I'm like you. Either comfiest jeans or sweats. If it's the kind of sick where I can't even get out of bed then it's just PJs or sweats. But more than likely there's no such thing as "sick-in-bed" so it's comfiest home clothes.

Sorry to hear that, and doubly sorry that you can't just stay in your PJs (that'd be my #1 pick). If I absolutely had to go out, I'm with Janet: comfort over all, and something that I can lie down in if needed. So I might do knit pants with a slubby sweater, a fluid or roomy sweater dress and cozy sweater tights, or stretchy twill pants and a loose blouse; all with flats or boots (weather dependent of course). But really, I'm doing PJs. I just bought a pair of upscale track pants, which could probably work well in this case as well. Your outfit sounds like a great option. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear that, Aziraphale. Here's hoping you can get a mini-breather, and soon.

Ohhh....So sorry you're sick. That is awful. I hope you can at least rest a little bit on the weekend. I know how hard that can be when you are stretched between generations. (Count me as another sandwich filling here.)

When I am sick I wear the most comfy things I can. for me, that's jeans (but only certain ones), a sweater of some kind, and warm socks/ footwear. I also really like a scarf when I am unwell.

Oh - Meredith -- I just saw your sweet comment. Thank you. Honestly, what I put on was as comfy as PJs and just helped me feel a little bit better about myself. It was either soft, stretchy, cozy, or all of the above. I chose the fabrics really carefully. No way I was going to put on anything too structured. It had to be forgiving.

But when I had stomach flu, I wore my PJs, too. That's a different situation.

Feel better soon! I've had the stomach flu this week and am not afraid to admit I stayed in my pjs - black jersey pants and terry cloth sweatshirt. I don't know how Suz mustered the strength to look so great during her weeks of sickness earlier this fall.

Even the comfiest jeans aren't comfy when you are feeling sick. I'd embrace ponte knit pants (if I need to look dressed, like for work), or the Rag&Bone sweat pant print jeans (if it's weekend or say I'm hanging out at the assisted living facility or hospital).

Big comfortable soft non-itchy oversized sweater. Probably with a soft vintage Jcrew tee shirt underneath, for added warmth & coziness. If I was getting the hot and cold chills, I'd probably opt for a long cozy cardigan over a long sleeve cotton tee, that way I could either wrap myself up in the cardigan, or take it off if I felt hot.

Most comfy bra you own.

Generous pashmina triple wrapped around my neck, something big enough I could use as a blanket if I get the chills.

Low heeled booties with cashmere blend socks.

Larger bag with room for tissues and cough syrup.

A slouchy hat to cover my hair, if I didn't feel up to washing it.

Hope you feel better soon!

Comfort rules. Soft pieces like well-worn jeans, plus knit tops and cozy toppers that don't constrict or pinch. Slip-on sneakers or easy low-heeled boots are also a good idea. Basically, anything that makes it easy to lie down and take an impromptu nap if needed.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Ugh. It has finally happened. I've burned the candle at both ends for too long, and the wicks have met in the middle. I woke up in the middle of the night with a thumping headache, the kind of sore throat where you can barely swallow, and an overall feeling of malaise. To make matters worse, we had a windstorm and the power went down.

Anyway, I can't actually be sick right now (sandwich generation, anyone?) and at six thirty when I got up in the dark, using my mobile phone as a flashlight, I found that even though I had laid out my clothes the night before, I couldn't bring myself to wear them. Instead, on went my comfiest jeans, a plain black tee-shirt, my beloved merino cardigan from the men's department, and a pair of Converse.

So, what do you wear when you've got to get up and carry on -- when you'd much rather be sitting around in your pyjamas and drinking Neo Citran?
