Snarkyvegan, I understand your dilemma; when you have a large bust your choices are limited anyway and you need support! I have one bra that I love and it's seamed and lacy.

I use a full length camisole for layering. I don't wear crisp white shirts these days but have black or darker tops that are sheer. I use white Camis with white tops, black Camis with black tops. What works best for me when I tuck both a top and a layering camisole is to use high waisted undies to lock the cami in place. So I put on my cami, put on underwear in the same color and pull it up over edge of camisole, then put the shirt on top and tuck. I suppose a bodysuit would be more solid but they are hard to come by, and I always found them uncomfortable!

And might I just say, tucking two shirts in is soooo annoying to me. It seems that on my body, the tank comes untucked as soon as I sit down while the shirt stays tucked a bit longer. Then they both just become uncomfortable and make me fidgety.

The body suit suggestion from Ankita would be awesome but I've not yet found one that fits me. Still looking.

This is why I'm REALLY loving the demi camisole or maybe a demi tank or t-shirt idea. If I can't find one that fits, I may just have to convert a regular tank or t-shirt to a demi with a bit of elastic.

You gals are such a wealth of knowledge! I do have one of those body hugging Shimera tanks in a nude that hides everything and looks modest but it's so clingy. It'll probably be fine this winter but definitely too hot for this old gal come spring.

I think the issues with my nude bras are that they are not t-shirt or seamless bras. At my size, I've yet to find a seamless bra that fits well. The seams and details are what show through my two white shirts.

In thinking over the Second Base demi camisoles, I'm also thinking about a white sport bra. Since they're kinda like tanks already, have more coverage, might look like the show through is on purpose rather than accidental, and it would be one less layer.

Thanks again for all your advice!
XO

I'm not crazy about tucking both a cami and a shirt, but that's probably what I would do in this situation, and I would also go with a white cami. Though I like CocoLion's suggestion of finding a nude bra that works.

I wear a white cami or just a nude bra if the shirt's not TOO sheer. For the bra, although I normally prefer seamed lace bras, I own one molded nude bra with light padding for this purpose (it also works under very tight tops where you need a smooth line). Another option would be a tank style sports bra or bralette (depending on level of support you want) if you don't want to add an extra layer.

I agree with L'Abeille - if it's too thin to wear with a regular bra, I return it/don't buy it. I have a couple tops that are intentionally translucent/filmy fabrics that I wear with camisoles underneath, but a regular style shirt that's too thin doesn't live in my closet. I used to buy them and it was just way too much work.

Made your nude bras are too dark? I'm with L'Abeille on this one.

Although, in the very warm weather, which is really the only time I wear white shirts, I don't mind the look of a well chosen white bra.

If a white shirt is too sheer to wear over just a nude bra, it will not find a home in my closet. There is no room in my life for layering under; I have enough to do with layering over (which I like for visual effect).

Needless to say, a good quality, well fitting, non sheer white shirt is a constant HEWI for me, and close contenders are hard to resist.

I'd keep trying with the nude bra. I have a very full coverage nude bra that doesn't leave lines. It also has padding for added modesty. It's a full coverage bra from Natori, I think they discontinued it but there are similar. Importantly it doesn't have sheer panels or lace.

Or I wear a camisole.

My other solution is to pick a white shirt with front pockets. That adds another layer to the bust area.

It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops because fabrics are so sheer. And it's not just white shirts. White tees are as bad/worse.

Love your name "snarkyvegan."

You guys! I never even thought about white as a camisole. I have a few colored camis and a nude one but the tucking of two shirts drives me nuts. The Second Base demi cami may actually solve the problem while not adding bulk or heat to my already cramped style ;-)

After reading Angie's post about wearing a white cami under any white shirt for a more crisp look, I always wear a white cotton tank, usually from Target. However, I'm thinking of getting something like Spanx in white to smooth out any rolls or bumps, especially on the back.

I have camis in every color of the rainbow. I wear a white cami under a white shirt if I want to look pristine but sometimes a colored cami offers a pop of color and is fun to accessorize.

I used to think a nude cami was the way to go but Angie wrote about using white to make the white appear brighter and crisper and I prefer that now. Alternatively, you could wear a tank/cami that coordinates with the bottom half of your outfit and leave a tiny bit peeking out.

Hi! I can totally relate to you...I love my whites and more often than not they are quite see through, making them a little difficult to wear.
I would suggest you look for a white bodysuit (I'll attach pitcures) - I wear these quite often and they're perfect.
The other good option if you want something lighter and preferably cotton would be a white cami or a tube top. I have these in every color possible and theyre just great - they also come with pads which means if you're confident just go without a bra..and they are opaque so no worries.
Hope this helps ☺

I picked up a nice crisp, white cotton, button down Jones NY shirt from Lord and Taylor and a Foxcroft. The Foxcroft is definitely more thin than the Jones. I really want to wear one of these but both are a bit see through. Are camisoles the way everyone deals with this? My beige bras tend to show through a bit but maybe I'm hoping for perfect and it's not possible?

Also being plus-sized, and over 50, I don't want more layers than I need. It's gets a tad toasty and bulky, then things start to come untucked.

What do you gals do? Any tips for a plus-sized woven shirt newbie? Should I stick to knits?
