I would do either - A dress with a topper - something plain in a flattering color with nice flats or platform sandals

OR, knit close-fitting ankle trousers in dark neutral (navy) or white, with a dressier loose top in a pretty color and low-heeled strappy sandals

OR, loose white trousers with a tucked top, belt and topper with pointed toe low-heeled pumps or platform sandals.

I'd also consider bringing a hat. I think hats are underrated for sun protection AND style. (-:

Good luck!

I think even a casual knit dress and sandals comes across as dressier than slacks. And if you have a trench, it will dress it up even more.
What about cropped cigarette pants with heeled shoes (like Okalas) with a fluid sweater with some festive embellishment?

First thing that popped in my head was Elvis, but clearly it's not that kind of wedding. (A guy in IT got married there in his star trek uniform, so you know . . .)

I would dress in layers, as others have noted. And honestly, I think just about anything will work. Vegas really does run the gambit.

What would _i_ wear or what would _one_ wear? For the latter, anything you would wear to any other wedding. For smart casual, even dressy jeans worn with heels and bling could work. Claire has great tips in handling temp shifts.

For me, i may go as priscilla presley during her wedding...or just the bouffant. I do love a good flip.

I was thinking maybe a dress, too. Unfortunately I've culled a lot of my dressier dresses (not super dressy, just anything that's not knit dress to wear with sandals) because I just wasn't wearing them. I could pull off slacks and a blouse with heels but I think that might give off too much of a workday vibe. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

We went to a wedding in a casino in Las Vegas a few years ago. I wore a sleeveless red dress with a matching short sleeve jacket, and sandals. It was a second wedding for both the bride and groom, so the bride wore a nice dress, but not a wedding gown. Afterwards there was a dinner, and then we walked around. When we were outside I took off the jacket. I was glad my sandals were comfortable. I thought it worked pretty well. I wore the same dress when my son graduated from college, which was held outdoors in a tent in heat and humidity. It was okay for that, too.

Whatever you wear will not be out of place in Las Vegas because people are wearing everything and anything everywhere.

Gosh, I would think anything goes. I would dress for the indoors unless one of the events is actually being held outside. You could wear a jersey dress with a sleeve (and carry a trench, that's what I do). Or you could wear dark jeans/black trousers with a long sleeved silk blouse and blazer. Heels can dress up the pants. (Outside you can remove the blazer and roll your sleeves). These are my two go-to formulas for situations like this.

Friends of ours are getting married in Las Vegas in October. Invitation says something along the lines of smart casual, and I know for sure that it's not going to be formal. But that still kinda leaves me stumped. I want to make some sort of effort but not look out of place, and then of course there's the eternal Vegas dilemma of warm outside, frigid a/c inside. There will be a ceremony, and then a nice dinner with everyone afterwards. Any thoughts?
