I prefer the wedges Skipkitty posted. They are sleek, classic and stylish. They read more professional to me than those with the embellishment.

If you like the CH and can do a flat you might also want to check these that are on killer sale on Amazon. Limited sizes, but you could get lucky. I have the black.

Ding ding ding. I think Shipskitty has the answer. The wedges she posted (though I haven't tried them on) are more in line with the vision I have for what I need. It must indeed be the embellishment.
Thank you. Now off to try those Cole Hahns...

I agree 100% with what Shipskitty says. I think they look like a nice shoe, and I love the colour, but that is more embellishment than would work for my personal style. I am more minimalist in approach.

I don't know about authoritative but I do think they look cool. The sort of fish scale effect on the toe plus the buckle and the silvery color makes them read a little bit "rock" to me, somehow.

I like them. I wore a ton of wedges in my last office job, because they're such a great combo of practical and pulled together. I find the rounder toed ones are looking a little dated to me, but anything that has an almond toe or tending toward pointy is nice. I wear my wedges a lot more with pants than skirts; not sure why.

I suppose they are slightly less corporate than traditional heeled pumps, but I find them more corporate than riding boots...

eta: ships kitty was posting at the same time as I was - I agree that something without embellishment like the ones she posted has even more of an authoritative feel than the original pair.

Your feeling of authority comes from the whole outfit though I agree the shoes do play a part.

I tend to find that I feel more "authoritative" in wedges where the wedge itself slims from the shoe - sort of mimicing the way a traditional heel does on a pump. Yours does that so I'm thinking if you don't feel the "authority" then it is in the textured details of this shoe which don't gel with your vision of a corporate shoe.

You could try to compensate for this in the rest of your outfit to balance that out - I would give that a go. Make the rest of your outfit really crisp and structured and use the shoe as a foil against that for expressing some personality.

I'm a big fan of wedges. Dressy yet walkable. I do agree these are not as authoritative as you can get. They'd be more so without any embellishment. You know, no nonsense.

I love the look of those shoes and think they are fab! In my world these definitely look authoritative, but I am a physician. I think they could work with the Maddie pants which are slim at the ankle. It looks like the wedge on these is finished nicely, and covered in leather. This is a very refined and polished looking wedge, it isn't clunky or one of the wedges with a thick rubbery heel.

I have three pairs of AGL wedges and probably 9 pairs of their flats. They can be super comfy. My experience with AGL however, is that the toe box can be touchy. The toe cap is made of a different material than the rest of the shoe, there is a seam that cuts across the foot on top of the metatarsals. On my foot, it sometimes cuts into my toes uncomfortably. The toe cap doesn't stretch much and this has been a problem for me in some AGL shoes. Each shoe is individually hand made, so they will fit differently. If you have a problem with one pair that doesn't mean you will have a problem with all of them. The sizing is not consistent. Be particularly careful to try them on again if you go back and purchase a pair.

I have a pair of their ballet flats in nude and probably am hooked. I haven't duplicated yet ' cause I got mine in sale and hoped the right other color would appear on sale.
I could really use a wedge for pants but also wondered if if somehow would be LESS classic than the flat, so am etching the replies.

For the flats, I like the bullet- toe shape which is more oval and less snubbed than a lot of ballet styles. AGL offered pointy- toe flats this year, but I don't think they're as healthy for my feet, so I did not try any at this price point.

If it helps, wedges read "urban" to me. In Boston we have so many cobblestones. Wedges are ultra-practical for navigating them.

They look fine to me. Year round color, would be fine with a skirt or pants. Nice styling, classic but some detail. Once you go over that price threshold for shoes, and buy all leather that are made in Italy, you you won't be able to go back to your old shoes. (Speaking as a Ferragamo, Amalfi, Stuart Weitzman fan. Although I'm not sure where SW shoes are made.)

gosh, i never thought about these being authoritative or not....will have to ponder that a little. now i have to admit that i love that brand! IMO they are just about the most comfortable shoe brand. so i like that wedge on the brand alone, but i also really like that color. as for year round year, i actually find these a perfect spring/summer shoe.
now, i guess i'm left wondering what is it about this shoe that you find is not authoritative?

I think they're really nice shoes that won't date quickly. As for being authoritative, I think they are, but I'm not a lawyer or banker so maybe someone more knowledgeable than I should answer that question.

Wedges have always read "dowdy" to me, but the Nordstrom stylist brought these to me last week and they were the most comfortable shoes I've put on in ages. They are 3x the normal amount I spend on shoes, so I didn't buy them, but I have been thinking about them ever since.

My main concern is that they don't read "authoritative" enough for me to wear when doing presentations at the front of the room in a corporate setting, though I had no issues doing so in riding boots paired with a tube skirt.

Other questions: How would these shoes read with pants, like the JCrew Maddison, which I just bought in gray? Are these year-round appropriate, or too much for summer? Will they "date" quickly? At this price, I will want to wear them for years.

Thanks.
