I ordered the first two. 40% off everything (and more on sale) today at Loft if anyone is interested. I also got this dress - a little unsure about the drawstring waist but otherwise the shape is a dead ringer for my ancient and beloved navy H&M dress that is about to die.

I'm ruling out three because I'm guessing navy cotton eyelet isn't going to last well and they already look a little lumpy on the model.
Sounds like you're not that enthusiastic about 4 and I think the tapered styles are easier to wear in cropped lengths.
1 and 2 both look promising. A little texture is not a deal breaker, and the pattern on 2 is almost like a plaid, adds interest but can function as background.

TRY THEM. I like #1 and #2 best.

With the right styling and footwear - these could be winners.

I am no good on lengths. However I got my DD the Riviera Marisa in the navy, which is a nice thick fabric, and a coral-on beige print. She is petite and these were more ankle pants on her. She is not very focused on super-picky PPL's and wears a variety of lengths, though.

Same as Carter - the first black ones look like a good shape, but you need to decide if the fabrication is going to work for you.

I love the patterned pants, too. I've been in LOFT a lot this past month, and I'm not sure why I haven't tried those on. I think I'd wear my long black vest over a bright blouse, coral or cobalt. I have a return to make, maybe an exchange is in order...

Not as crazy about the eyelet, I have a fear of snagging them on everything but that could be just me and the reality of my crazy dogs' enthusiastic greetings.

Same feeling as you on the last ones with the leg opening. I tried some Gap pants recently and was not comfortable with the cropped non-skinny leg. But I also have the 15' calves and small ankles so I know how you just have to try try again and get used to making returns.

Oh, I adore the patterned ones. I could really picture you in those with some of your fab handknits. The first black pair seem great too. I can't quite see the shape of the last black ones working for you, but then maybe that's just me...

Diana, I love the patterned ones! Picking things from my closet to wear with them...lime linen EF swing sweater, white button front shirt untucked (I like white and cream together), navy linen boxy shirt, cotton turquoise sweater, orange BP boxy sweater, cream cotton BR sweater. And from my wishlist...pink sleeveless crossover blouse. Yikes! I may have to go try these on myself.

I also like the first pair of black ones. The length of these seem to be in the right range, but without seeing them on, it's hard to know where that "sweet spot" is.

So the REAL HEWI for me would be these pants but in a true tapered ankle length. The problem is that I have 15" calves and 7.5" ankles, so finding something that fits both is darn near impossible. Everything cotton seems to be in this capri length this year. The good thing about that is that since they hit higher on the leg the opening doesn't gape as much.

Heh. These were a HEWI for me for a long time too. When I finally found a pair .... I discovered I hardly wear them at all. They're handy for a few outfits I suppose, but pretty much all my other pants get more wear.

The first ones look like a safe bet, if you're sure that's what you need. I'd totally wear the shape of the fourth, but would you? And those mosaic pants look to me like they have your name written all over them. Not that I'm enabling or anything.

Yesterday, I went to Loft for the first time in years, because I had been told that they had good cotton-rich black pants, which is a HEWI for me. I tried on a bunch of them in both the Marisa (regular fit) and Jule (curvy fit) cuts. As I suspected, I prefer the Marisa because the rise is lower. They actually both fit me, although my Marisa size is one size larger than my Jule size. Unfortunately I did not think to take pictures of them on me.

Anyway, all the cotton pants they had in the store were crops. Here are some I am considering. I tried the first two in the store (although they did not have the black in my size) and the other 2 are online only.

1: textured cotton black crops. I would prefer if the fabric was smooth but otherwise they were nice. Maybe a bit heavy for warmer weather, I suspect. Length is about the same as on the model, maybe actually slightly shorter on me.

2: mosaic pattern crops. These fit me better than any pants i have tried on in ages and the fabric was really nice (smooth, 99% cotton!). This fabric content sadly does not seem to come in solids. I am slightly unsure about the pattern though. IRL the white part is more beige (like undyed linen color) and the pattern reads a bit larger than it does in the modeled pic. It's more ikat-like IRL if that makes any sense. What would you pair these with?

3: Navy eyelet. I found these browsing the site today. They are online only. I am intrigued because they are 100% cotton. But is the eyelet pattern weird, too twee, or lumpy looking?

4: A different black pair that's also online only. According to the product description these are supposed to be a little shorter than the other 3 (which are all supposed to be the same length despite how they look different on the models). They have a bit more spandex though (3%) so I am a little doubtful. I also can't tell if the leg opening is too wide.

What do you think? I am particularly interested in what you think about the length. On me the ones I tried are somewhere between the lengths of the first and second pairs on the models. They could easily be shortened but not lengthened, and I could probably taper the hems slightly (they have a split hem so I could sew that up and maybe overlap it a little to make it skinnier.) Remember that I don't wear heels more than 1-2" on a regular basis and I don't wear low vamp shoes. I'd want them to work with things like flat sandals and oxfords. I don't want to go for tall or petite because the rise would change, and the rise on these is just about perfect right now.
