Hate shopping for bras and shoes. I love to buy jewelry, handbags, and makeup. Pants, skirts, athletic wear, blazers I'm fine with as long as I stick to my favorite brands. Tops are hit and miss, so sometimes a pleasure and sometimes the pits. I used to like to buy pajamas, but now there are so many quality issues, it annoys me. I do enjoy browsing, as I like to find a bargain that is still a well-made item. Swimsuits, forget about it.

Strategies... well I tend to avoid bra shopping until all I have left to wear is literally poking, choking or falling off me and then I have no choice but to spend my budget there ;). Ditto with sportswear and pyama's, although I can be tempted with a good sale on cute pj's if I'm otherwise settled in my wardrobe.
I love buying work appropriate dresses even if I don't need that many, as I often wear trousers too. Blazers are another weakness that I love in theory but only wear occasionally.

Jeans are a pain for me as i have a waist and big hips/bum as well as being 5 foot 9!!

i find that different types of shoes can also be a pain, I'm sometimes one size then sometimes another in a different shop -_-

Thank you all. Lot of great advices and wisdom. I forced my self to order tons of bras from different brands, different cuts and sizes. They surprisingly arrived at lightning speed and I was so excited to try them on but unfortunately it was a bust. I overestimated my realestate and they were all too big except the smallest of the bunch. That one was ok, but not perfect, there is some bunching in the armpit area, but it is comfortable and provides good support so decided to keep it out of desperation. 2 of those that were too big, I really liked so will probably order them again in smaller size. In finds is the one I kept. I also ordered 3 pajamas and 4 t-shirts from Marks & Spencer - my first order with them - keeping fingers crossed that I selected correct size. Will keep you updated if interested. It was easier when I focused on one retailer instead of browsing through tons of stuff on Zalando and Amazon. For me it seems that less choice is better - I feel less overwhelmed and indecisive.
Now still have to sort out casual sandals. Was thinking about focusing on Fly London - it is brand that worked for me before but I completely forgot about them until LisaP mentioned them recently.

I am hopeful that there will be many more true wireless bras to choose from after the pandemic (that aren't sports bras or bralettes). I keep reading that many women are appreciating going without the underwire during their work-at-home time.

I've used the Wacoal Ultimate Side Smoother Wire-Free T-Shirt bra for about a year and have found that it provides good support under office outfits. During work at home time, I use bralettes.

And I loathe shoe shopping due to my narrow heel and fussy feet, so I mostly stick to Munro and Dansko.

@Sisi I second the frustration of sweaters/ jumpers - they can add bulk to my pear-shaped frame, but thinner versions often can't accommodate layers underneath for warmth. So I usually rely on layering up with cardigans or jackets with scarves instead.

Lounge wear and pajamas are two things I really don't pay much attention to and on which I spend little money. I have two of pairs of cotton drawstring pants, two camisoles for sleeping only, and one pair of summer weight pajamas. TBH, I spend more time lounging around the house in my workout wear.

I hate shopping for woolen sweaters and love shopping for sandals.

Sweaters can be difficult - if they are not made in a certain way they can look bulky. No strategy unfortunately. Simply, when I am left with nothing to wear I force myself to go buy. With a mood as if I were going to the guillotine.

Summer sandals are funny, coloured and make me happy. If I can suggest you a comfortable casual sandal, look for the Ecco Cruise. The most comfy sandals I ever had. I am even thinking to duplicate.

Jeans are the bane of my life. If there's any one piece of clothing most likely to make me feel like my body is shaped 'wrong' whilst feeling like a boa constrictor around my body, it's a pair of jeans. Kill it with fire! :P

Lol I would probably buy more jeans if I could find ones that go in enough at the waist whilst leaving enough space at the hips/ thighs. But even the versions with stretch often end up bagging out terribly by the end of the day, giving me nappy (diaper) butt. All of the zippers & buttons & gaping pockets & stiff denim just aren't worth the struggle to me

On the other hand, I weirdly *like* shopping for underwear because I now have a routine down pat (I always wear slip shorts & a padded bra without an underwire) & have therefore found brands to accommodate that (I buy them in bulk - I must have *at least* 10 pairs of Uniqlo slip shorts).

I love shopping. I get pleasure out of finding just the right things. I may get frustrated by limited options, but in general, I like shopping. For anything. Give me a list and I will research and do my best to find the best option.
Example: our refrigerator needed to be replaced. Refrigerators are not my favorite thing, however I had the best time shopping for one. I never realized how many fabulous fridges there are, until I gave the search my full attention.

What rachylou said.
I am so often stymied and disappointed when trying to find a specific thing, that I have tended to get some random things. Sometimes that works out great--in some ways it is that perhaps my "list" was big enough that in shopping for one thing, I came across another useful thing--but then at some level I did not fill the hole needed.
Swimsuits--gaahh! It's even more frustrating than, well, swimsuits...
It will be that I find a top that really works but the bottoms are sold out,and maybe it is a print so I think oh, no problem I just need something in solid purple or pink, how hard can that be, but no, or found a style but need to size up or down.

Bras--Target used to have a few styles I liked for summer outdoor but now their dressing rooms are closed. Bought a couple to try but they do not fit right so now have to venture back out to return.

I have recently determined I need a type of looser-fitting tank in cool fabric but need to have high-ish neck, armholes not too low, not too see through, etc. The number of online options are staggering and I don't always know size. I am thinking of braving Zombieland and going to Athleta store in hopes they allow real try-ons and have some styles in stock just so I can get some Idea. If I did find perfect thing I would likely pay full price for convenience, at least for one to try, but not stock up until have road-tested.
And on and on.

I enjoy shopping for all what's not really speciffic and essential. Rachy said it so well, that one is really hard- I somethimes get so tired and buy to dig the wardrobe hole but I now know settling me on things which do not fit 100% my idea leads to frustration and more closet orphans....so will try again even harder...:-(. So back to the hole, which is not a wardrobe hole anymore, rather a true rabbit's one...:-((

April, the thing about “occasion” dresses is that even when you think you have one that covers all the bases, some event pops up that defies the parameters, and the go-to dress doesn’t work: it’s too hot or cold or a rainy outdoor wedding, or it’s a little dressy but not dressy enough... Or five pounds renders it less than fab!

I do like shopping for tops and jackets — generally a much easier fit on me than pants. And of course jewelry and bags and scarves are fun because they always fit. But god knows I don’t need to shop for any of that stuff now because there’s nowhere to wear it!

Shoes are still kinda fun for me, but my feet seem to be changing — they are a bit more low volume or something, so more shoes seem to be too wide or big (can’t size down or they are too short), and not as many are comfortable as I used to recall. I guess we lose padding in our feet as we age.

A few years back, I had decided always to have one in my closet to avoid the stress of trying to find something under time pressure. I have kind of given up, though - it's not easy to have a beautiful *and* well-fitting occasion dress for all four seasons, and I honestly don't have that many occasions.

So, I think you are actually mourning your pre-COVID life, when you had opportunities to wear the kinds of clothes you enjoy shopping for. No wonder it's hard now!

I understand this. When I lived in a miserable winter climate, I loathed shopping for winter parkas, practical snow boots, and basically, for any item that was impractical to wear for 6 months a year in my climate. I loved shopping for blazers, skirts (to wear without hose), sandals, light summer dresses or tops -- all the stuff I rarely got to wear!

My situation is a bit different now, in that I live in a more temperate climate so theoretically, I don't need to shop for all that boring stuff I dislike. Yay!!

But COVID has definitely cramped my style. There is simply no reason to shop for dressy items, since I will not be wearing them, full stop. I don't enjoy dressing as casually as I feel I need to, now, but if I'm going to be clothed and feel good about my at-home style, I'll have to get used to shopping for more comfortable, casual things.

Either I'll come up with a work-from-home uniform of sorts, the way Jenn does, or I'll find some really luxe loungewear, or...I don't know, maybe both. I'm considering a really great pair of overalls for the hours I spend in the garden, for example. I'm trying to reframe "fashion fun" as what will prove useful to me in my actual life.

Shopping for shoes is difficult for me - fussy feet and lost paddings in my soles. Many descriptions are incorrect on-line so I get frustrated getting again non comfortable shoes with non removable insoles. So I like the shoes but have too much trouble finding the right ones ( the ones that can withstand city walking and 8 hour work shifts ).
The strategy for shopping in general - strict budget and asking yourself questions like - "And where you are going to wear that piece? Does it work with your existing collection?". The answers are pretty often - "nowhere" and "it doesn't" - no purchase .
I stick to tried brands - Calvin Klein for t-shirt bra without underwire, ECCO - for shoes.

I enjoy shopping for almost anything as long as I’m not under time pressure to find something. Tops and sweaters are the easiest for me to find a style and fit which feel good. Pants and jeans are the hardest. Because I’m tall, about 99% of what’s in the store will be too short; I almost have to shop online for pants and jeans.

The skirt in your Finds is stunning, Anchie; it makes me think of the Northern Lights.

I hate shopping for bras. That is why I tend to just repeat the same over and over. This year I am ready for something new but have already had one unpleasant experience in a lingerie shop. Let's just say bra shopping is best in a large shopping mall in the US where I do not have a nosy shopkeeper following me around.

I don’t like shopping for jeans, underwear, swimwear, PJs, shoes (except boots), t-shirts, shorts, layering tops, gear, knitwear, pants.

I like shopping for skirts, dresses, jackets, coats, handbags and jewellery. The items that are statement items in my wardrobe.

Consequently my wardrobe is imbalanced. Too many statement items that are infrequently worn and too few essentials and basics (which are workhorses). To be fair, I do tend to keep my statement items for a long time and wear them on and off for years. But I’m still trying to rectify the balance to spread the wear more.

This year my strategy is to put a limit on the number of statement items I can buy but I give myself free reign on the boring stuff I don’t like to buy (subject to overall budget). It’s a bit like Jenn’s system but not as disciplined!

I enjoy shopping for most things - except for underwear and swimsuits . Both bring out every insecurity I have and magnify it tenfold . I do find that when I’m tasked with finding something very specific , I enjoy the process a whole lot less . I love finding random things I like , but that flightiness doesn’t match my budget and has caused a bulging closet and a wardrobe lacking in cohesion .

I will trade you gear shopping for bra shopping Angie!

I love gear shopping*- cause there are so many sports to buy for :)
*except sports bras which are my other nemesis

Skirts, dresses, sandals, blouses, and accessories are fun. Dressy things, dancewear, and costumes are especially fun. Also fun are cosmetics, hobby supplies, plants, housewares, random magpie Etsy things, and things at the hardware store!

Not fun: bras, knickers, socks, tights, pants/jeans, shorts, sneakers, anything for cold weather, groceries.

I like shopping for every wardrobe item........ accept any type of gear. I intensely dislike wearing it, so I intensely dislike shopping for it.

I can high five Nemosmom on the lack of interest in shoes. I'm not a shoe gal so it's less fun to shop for them. I like shoes! I just don't want to wear 99.9% of them.
