I'm not looking for a change in direction. I really just started to find stuff that I really like after a very slow start this year. I was more interested in how the boots would fit into my current wardrobe. I've really only seen them worn in relatively classic ensembles. I guess I'll have to see how well they play in my closet.

That's a very good point about "Current", shoegirl. A very good point.

You know, honestly, shedev, if something is not my style I say no (or try to). It's been a lesson for me that if something has no place in my life, it's just a burden in my closet. Things deserve a happy life and to get out into the sunshine.

That said, if you are interested in going in a new direction...

Now I am curious what you usually wear, because I actually don't consider those boots to be very refined. Having said that I own them and love them. I would say that the sand color would be my first choice to build a wardrobe, whereas the python is like icing on the cake to change things up when you feel like it. Why not order them and see what outfits you can build at home and then decide?

To answer your initial question, whenever I love something within my budget I buy it, and these decision always serve me well. However I am more of an intuitive shopper than a planner.

What would I do if I loved something that seemed out of sync with my style? Reconsider what I think is my style, because if I love it, how is it not my style? So maybe what I THINK is my style is not quite what it actually is, or perhaps I have defined it too narrowly. Another possibility is that, for example, my style might have a primary component of being CURRENT, which can include all sorts of things that don't fit into other defining descriptors of my style. I mention this because I had this very experience and realised that CURRENT should be up there in my short list of "my style" descriptors.

Sometimes the things I keep thinking about (but didn't buy) are the first signs that I'm looking for a slightly new direction. I also think because the python has some texture they could be incorporated into more rugged looks:)

Try them on. See how they fit, if they are comfortable and if you still like them. If yes, then see if they match anything in your closet in a way that feels like your style.

If they don't fit in with you closet, pass and enjoy on others as they will become orphans. But if they are comfortable and work with your closet, keep and enjoy!

Don't get so boxed in by what you think is "your style" that you stop experimenting. I say get the booties in whatever color calls to you, then try them with different outfits in your wardrobe until you find a winning combination.

I would buy them so that you can see them in person. I typically wear refined footwear, and they SE booties were way more casual/rough/tough than my style, so I returned them. To me, they read a lot like an ankle version of a roper style boot, so much more cowboy than polished. You might be very surprised when you see them in person how much better they work with your style than you would otherwise envision.

I also think it is worth trying. I think the place where I have run into trouble is when I purchase a single item and then need to buy everything else to go with it. But many of the ladies have these boots and they honestly look so fab with so many styles.

Before YLF I would see something I loved, but was not me, and automatically passed. But now, if I really like, I'm more likely to try it. Those python booties are a case in point. I saw them, loved them, said they were not me, and then ended up ordering them. Now I wear them at least once a week, and I get a complement every time. Lesson learned, it's good to get out of our comfort zones every once in a while.

They are so versatile that you might get a pair to try with your wardrobe. I don't think you should have to work too hard to incorporate them, however.
Would the putty color work better? To me they seem less refined because of the suede.

Try them! They might not even be comfortable on your foot. If you like how they feel you can always "toughen up" the rest of your outfit to create some contrast.

I really love the SE python booties but they are much more refined than my usual footwear. Every once in a while I find myself in this dilemma. Should I get them and try to incorporate them into my style, wear them in a juxaposition, or just admire them on others. They would fill a hole for non black boot.
