I always have "muffin top" problems, I have no butt, apple tummy and slim legs. So lots of pants problems for me:(
But I keep trying them on, and sometimes I get lucky and find once that fit perfectly:)

What I dislike about pants is how fussy they are when it comes to heel height. I hate that if I have a certain pair that is hemmed for heels but want to wear flats with them one day, it just doesn't work. And vice versa.

Very limiting, unless one can commit to having all shoes of one heel height...

Having said that, I don't actually dislike pants as a wardrobe item and wear them a lot. I just find the heel-height issue rather inconvenient.

Rute, I can believe that. If the merchandise in stores was any indication, people love wearing or at least buying pants. There are so many pant options compared to dresses.

There are many pants issues I can't deal with and almost all are listed above. The thing that peeves me the most is the absence of flared pants in stores. I don't like skinnies and I look terrible wearing them. While getting a pair of nice boot-cut jeans is really hard with my measurements, I prefer flares - impossible to find.

Epgal, but there are also so many people who wears only pants, here in Portugal most women don't wear skirts or dresses, they say pants are more comfy and don't like to show the legs.

Being an engineer, I tried to categorize all the reasons people have listed but failed. There are a myriad of reasons and it is difficult to uncouple them. A few reasons can be categorized as inherent fit issues or those that can be fixed with alterations. As expected, a majority fall in the former category. At an attempt to be semi-quantitative, here goes:

The top reasons were - inseam, waist-hip ratios, and rise. The second tier included crotch issues, muffin-top, zipper bulges which I venture are closely related to the rise issue. I'd put weight gain accommodation and comfort issues in a related category. Some of the other reasons were the cost of alterations, not feeling feminine enough, the shoe-hiding propensity of pants and fit issues due to scoliosis.

Angie, you're the only woman I know who has no problems at all with pant fit and comfort!

I have the same pant preferences as you. Microchecks, cigarettes, and jeans. If I had the right body type I would love a pair of paperbag trousers, but I definitely don't. Other than that it's dresses all the way, and skirts are okay on occasion but can't really be a staple in my wardrobe due to top fit issues.

If the hips fit, the waist is too tight. If the waist fits, the hips are way too loose. I am 0.8 waist/hips ratio. I also have sort of a flat butt (I think if you've got some curves in the back, you can fill out jeans better even if your hips are narrow). Pocket placement and size is important - sometimes I'll find pants that fit well, but the pockets just don't flatter at all.

Because my stomach is pretty much a wreck from pregnancies, I cannot do low-rise at all. Really need something that is at least a mid-rise, hitting at the widest part and locking it all in so it doesn't jiggle over the waistband! Ideal rise is 9 inches.

Back rise is just as important, since my butt is flat. I've found a back rise around the same as the front rise is most flattering. Yoke can't be too long or I'll wind up with pockets that are on my thigh, not my butt.

What's more, I'm petite at 5'0. Except, for some odd reason, I can't fit in petite jeans. I guess my rise is just slightly longer than the "normal" rise for petites, which I think is probably because of excess skin leftover from my pregnancies. But the sizing for regular pants has grown over the years, and more and more, the smallest size is simply way too big.

I also just need to get the scale right - since my hips are so narrow, forget about most wider leg pants. I will drown in them, unless they are scaled perfectly. But I really do like trouser cuts that are form-fitting on the thighs and then flare out after the knee.

Overall, I do prefer pants to skirts and dresses, which present their own special challenges for me. And I'm far more comfortable in the right pair of pants. When I find the right fit, I buy duplicates!!!

I like cigarette pants if the rise is high. For the rest, I do not have trouble finding pants that fit and am actually quite comfortable in them. I adore the slacks that come with my suit!

For me it's about a feeling inside. I feel SO MUCH BETTER in skirts and dresses than I do in slacks. Why bother. So other than jeans, my skinny micro checks and the black cigarette pants, I don't wear pants at all. That being said, I am still open to slouchy silk harem pants just because they are so different.

My concerns are similar to many of yours! I have problems finding pants that fit properly (most are too small in the waist if they fit my hips and thighs, or too low rise, or slip down my hips), but if they fit properly I like them. They also make you more aware of your weight, as Kim so aptly describes

I used to like pants more than I do now that I've discovered the comfort of unstructured dresses. My biggest gripe is that being extremely short-waisted, many pants go up to nearly my bra band when I sit down.

I dislike shopping for pants and skirts because I have equal problems fitting both. I have larger thighs, hips am petite, and a small waist so I need a larger size significantly hemmed and the waist taken in. Once I find a pair that fits, even it if I need them tailored, then I don't have a preference between the two.

My problem is I need too many of them to go with heels and flats, and they are too unforgiving if I go up and down the scale. Plus I am tall so I must get all of them taken down which means an extra cost for them.

I am like Jenava - but I tailor almost everything. I also love pants. I fit the bigger parts and then tailor the smaller. So I usually have darts put into the waist of the pants.

I am also uneven due to scoliosis - that makes it a bit difficult on the crotch/rise ares. For some reason, AT loft and JJill pants fall well on me.

there is alot I don't like about pants, but when I find the right pair they are heaven. Also, nothing keeps me aware of even the slightest weight gain like a pair of jeans. With dresses you can live in denial for about 10 pounds... not jeans... they tattle on you after just 2 little pounds I like that.

I have a really weird inseam. Regular lengths are always a TINY bit too short and long lengths are always a TINY bit too long. I'm right in the middle of regular and long which requires me to buy tall inseams and get my pants hemmed for PPL -- and it's always only 0.5-1 inch which feels like such a silly waste of money!

Also, of course muffin top... I've learned that my muffin top is decreased when I wear skirts. I also second Maya's crotch concerns... I'm very picky about how pants fit in that area. :)

All that said, I wear jeans more than anything else.

I don't like pants only because I have a tough time finding pants that fit my round thighs, ample butt and small waist. Skirts are more flattering and, frankly, easier to fit. I cannot rely on buying pants online, for instance, because 70% of the pants I try don't work. No fun. I do enjoy the ones I find, but bottom line is that for me, they just aren't as flattering as skirts and dresses.

Maya, you perfectly described my problem with pants. I don't hate pants but I haven't yet found a perfect fit. Although I have to say that my Not Your Daughter's Jeans is my most comfortable fitting pair since it has about an 11 inch rise in the front. Since I wear it with tops that hit mid hip, I don't feel weird about the high waist of them. It's also holds my tummy in like a comfortable girdle.

I'm just now discovering dresses and skirts and how they hide tummy issues better than pants.

I guess that's also why I prefer tankinis to one pieces. One pieces always follow the curve of my belly no matter how much ruching and print is on it.

There is a dark zone that falls between my natural waist and my hipbone that is pure flab, and of course, all pants and jeans fall somewhere in that area, causing them to awkwardly slip down when I sit, resulting in unsightly overspill, and then requiring me to tug them back up when I stand. If I wear a waist that falls below the dark zone, I get ample bottom cleavage and muffin top. It's impossible to go above it, as a rise that high simply doesn't exist and would probably look bizarre.

Because of my extremely long rise, pants often fit poorly in the erm, crotch area. Both unsightly and uncomfortable. I also hate how the zipper on jeans sort of bulges when I sit. Not the most feminine look, that's for sure!

Skirts and dresses are more "freeing" for me. As long as they fit in the bust and waist, I don't have to worry about anything else (and trying to find things that fit in the bust and waist is enough of a challenge on its own). Obviously I still like jeans and wear them regularly, but I have to say I wear them a LOT less than I used to.

I am long legged and short waisted, so it is hard to get the right length~with heels~ and they always hit at an odd spot on my high waist , so tucking in a shirt makes my proportions took funny(I guess they are) adding a longer jacket or sweater is a must , but doesn't always look right either.
Anyway denim sits much lower on my waist/hip and looks better overall.

For those of you who don't like pants, what is it about them that bothers you? I am not questioning your dislike of pants, just trying to understand why.
