I tend to agree with Anne on this one, although it also depends on how often I've worn a certain item. If I wear it weekly and somebody asks me 'is this new?' after 2 months, then I'd hesitate to say yes. If I've only worn it a couple of times, it's still new for me;-)

I love these answers, thanks for the laugh.
Hmm. I'm sort of with londonkiwi, if my husband asks if something is new, I think it is code for how much did it cost!
When other people ask me if my jacket is new I do get a bit tripped up on the answer because it is so relative to what it is compared to.

Well, I have turned over my entire wardrobe in the last 8 months, so for me "new" is relative; when I saw "it's new" I generally mean I cut off the tags moments before I left the house.

My purchases lose the new feeling after being worn half a dozen times. By that count I have evening outfits which are five years old which I consider new and t shirts which are two months old which don't feel new at all.

It really depends who is asking. I agree with you about the seasonality of something and would generally use this for everyone but my husband. When he asks if something is new, he means "how much did that cost?".

For me, if I bought it this season - it's "new".

I am always surprised when people say (when asked if something is new) "oh no I got it a month ago", or even a couple of months ago

If we are talking about houses or cars then I'd say new extends for about 2 years!
