That's so cool, I never thought of that. I don't think J. Crew gives the option, but I know lots of places will do a custom monogram. Hmm.....I might just do it. I like behind the neck because I wear my hair pulled up a lot.

My thinking was opposite. I fancied the idea of monogramming in a subtle way. For example in an area that’s not obvious , like behind the neck, in the bottom back corner of the garment or behind a sleeve. In this way, it’s unexpected and mysterious. The monogram itself would become visible when you moved as opposed to it being blatantly visible. I personally like that idea best. It’s an evolved way of retro ’50’s monogramming. Just a thought.

Ana, monogramming is not my thing. I'm not big on labels on clothes anyway. If you're looking for something really different, this would definitely do that!

It sounds like a retro look from the 50's. If I remember correctly cardigans were monogrammed. I think it would be fun done in a retro way. Monogrammed fonts can be very beautiful. I would not like it so much if it was as small as the little aligators done on polo shirts. It should be significant and beautiful. Tone on tone would be nice.

I am conflicted about this one. One part of me says: that sounds too preppy and not suited to what I've seen of your style Ana. But another part of me says that contrasts are often what make things really interesting and eye catching. And then I think, what if you did it and took it one step further. Instead of it being small and subtle and self color on your sweater, what if the monogram was somehow funkier in design and made a bolder statement - not sure they offer that but just where my mind started to go.

Hmmm, this one surprises me and somehow I can't see this on you, Ana. I think it's kinda preppy and a very different style from what we've seen of you so far. But hey, horses for courses, right?

I don't think it's tacky. It's definitely preppy and a little retro, which you can rock. I have seen it on cardigans as well as on casual (canvas, mostly) totes. If I had a canvas tote, say from J.Crew, I would consider monogramming it to add a little personal touch.

I think it's a very preppy look. My DH would do it - prep is totally his thing. Except he never spends money on new clothes. He's so preppy, he believes that no clothes today are as good as those made 20-25 years ago. So he finds his clothes at vintage stores. Which means they may have monograms, but they won't be his monogram.

I'm getting sidetracked - sorry!

I think if old-money/ivy league preppy is what you are going after, then go for it. I think monogramming came in style because people that when to prep school preferred it to having someone write their name in permanent marker in the tag.

Tacky? No... today I think it would be more retro or cheeky! I would say go for it for one item - for fun - but maybe not your whole wardrobe.

I guess it's on the left chest, pretty small (1/2"), initials. I'm not sure about doing it, but I thought it might be an interesting alternative to an alligator, polo man, etc. Of course, I can always leave it plain too, which is what I usually do. Honestly, I don't even know if people would even notice something like that--I probably wouldn't.

I personally would not do it for myself, but I can see a person with the right personality pulling it off! I did like the trend of necklace with one's initial a few years ago though.

Hi Everyone!

What do you all think of monogramming clothing? J. Crew offers a monogramming service on some of its sweaters, and I am already planning on picking up a few for this fall. I hadn't ever considered getting them monogrammed, and I'm not sure I would want to do it, but do you all think it's an interesting way to personalize something, or is it just kind of tacky?

Thank you!
