I was trying to imagine it over my hips, but that is the magic of short skirts. They let little pin legs stick out which creates the illusion of slenderness, and the peplum does the same for the waist. I think the AP picture is turned into hourglass by the outfit, but she is otherwise very slender and not so curvy. I think this does work but body shape has a bit to do with how well it works. Also fabric. Both pieces are quite structured and the fabric looks quite substantial, holding its shape well. For my body type, I would be more conventional on wear the peplum with a knee length or midi pencil skirt.
