The diversity in opinions here are very interesting to read! I think you all make valid arguments. At the end of the day, this really is about taste and preferences, no? The quality of the fabric in the skirt is fine, the shine is not overwhelming, and it is not too stiff for me. But it is pricey, so I will probably wait it out and look for it in the sales later in the season, or maybe not buy at all in the end. The sweater? If anyone here lives near a Petit Bateau shop, please feel free to chime in if you have touched the black/gold Breton top and have opinions on the feel of it. I think I could find a lot of use for that sweater, especially during the Holidays.

I love gold but rarely ware it as I prefer the cooler tones of silver for myself. I love the sweater and think it would look great on you Ingunn and could see it playing well in your wardrobe. The idea of the skirt is fab but I think the fabrication has the potential to look a bit cheap and I wonder about the comfort of that skirt.

Both are lovely garments. Would you perhaps know someone in England close by the shop who you could ask about the scratchiness of the top?

Well I loves me some sparkle and shine! I think that top is awesome, the skirt I have reservations about due both to shape and possible stiffness. I also wear both gold and silver (fairly neutral coloring bordering warm), and have no bias against/towards either.

In general, with gold in garments, my feeling is "proceed with caution". Can be horrific, or kind of cool, depending.

Of the two garments you posted, I quite like the top (although I'd like it even more if the stripes were red), but do not care for the skirt, in part because of its stiffness, and in part because it's just too much goldy gold for my taste.

Yes, it is intriguing. I think the skirt is easy to dress up and down. A chunky knit and boots would be interesting, in winter white (sweater) and dark brown (boots) maybe. I also like the idea of pairing it with a more dressy shirt or top - silk, probably. I think I would keep everything simple, but a striped pattern or lace details could work, too. A transparent blouse... There are many options.

ETA: and I'd wear it with my navy v-neck jumper from Paris, of course:)

I gotta say, that skirt is precious. I think it's because the fabrication isn't cheap looking at all, and the A-line cut works better than a pencil skirt (too tight+gold=too much). But I wouldn't wear it with black, like in those pics. Too much of a snore. How would you wear it?

I like actually like the skirt better than the top, Ingunn. Maybe it's because I see so many striped lurex tops in the shops these days that the top just seems nice, but kind of ordinary. The skirt, on the other hand, really intrigues me. I can see where some of the others are coming from with it being a stiffish A-line because that's not a shape that everybody can wear, but it's actually quite a friendly shape for my body, and, I suspect, for yours. And most of Angie's ideas on how to wear sequined, colored, and printed bottoms could give you a starting point for coming up with some really interesting looks.

Are any of you into color seasons thinking? I've tried to look into that, but it doesn't really make sense to me. I discovered that I'm probably in one of the seasons that can take both warm and cool colors (soft Autumn or Summer, or maybe even Clear Spring). Hence the love for both gold and silver. It's funny, because until recently I never wore gold at all, not since the early nineties. I've preferred silver and non-metal costume jewelry. But now - I got a gold watch and small gold earrings for my birthday, and they are both lovely. Now I wear a little gold regularly. Just like you do, Rae!

I suppose my coloring is not that far from yours, Suz, we seem to like many of the same colors, but I suspect that you are a tad cooler than me in your coloring. Mo, you are probably more into cooler tones, and Zap, you are on the warmer side, no? That can explain why you are so sure about this.

Diana, thank you for believing in the skirt! Anna and JR, it is not as stiff as it looks, I've seen it. It has some shine, but not overwhelmingly much. I found some photos of it on the web, they are posted here for you to see. What do you think now? I'm not entirely convinced myself, but I kind of like it. This particular shape is often friendly to my body shape.

The Breton top is a no-brainer, I think. It could become a workhorse, actually, and I really, really like it. But I am a bit concerned about itchiness, too, and I have to buy it from England, meaning the addition of VAT and such. So there is a risk of disappointment.

Gold is on trend, I don't see it going away for awhile, and both these items are quite classic pieces.

For myself, I prefer silver, as I find it's more flattering, and works better with cool-toned colors. Also, gold reminds me very much of the 80s. My first interview suit in 1987 was navy blue, double breasted, shoulder padded and with BIG honking gold buttons. (complete the picture with nude Legg's pantyhose and pointy toe navy blue pumps...).

That said, I am incorporating gold into my wardrobe lately anyway. It all started with bag hardware: it's getting more and more difficult to find bags with silver or bronze zippers. All you can find is gold.... so gold has creeped back into my closet...

I love gold personally, although silver is such a wonderful colour for me. With your colouring, gold would be gorgeous.

I am not fond of stiff A-lines on much of anybody. I just don't find them flattering, so I would pass on that particular skirt.

I don't know if gold is a fad or a trend, but it's so classic I don't think it will ever look lame. As opposed to lamé, of course... ;o) (Sorry, just couldn't resist.)

I love it. As you might have noticed, I'm kind of obsessed with gold hardware on shoes lately. I think gold is more flattering to my skin tone than silver. I also mix metals without even thinking about it though.

I like both of the items you've shown! The skirt especially is very cool. I like that it's a more matte gold. I am a little wary of lurex threads because they can tend to be itchy.

I've eyed two garments with gold lately, and they linger in my mind. The first one is the easiest to wear: A mariniére/Breton top in black with gold (lurex) stripes from Petit Bateau: http://www.petit-bateau.co.uk/.....ipes.html#

The other one is an A-line skirt in gold lamé(?) from Baum & Pferdgarden, a Danish brand: http://shop.baumundpferdgarten.....1_INDEX_10

What do you think of these garments? I don't necessarily think they should be worn together. How would you style outfits based on one or both? Is this a fad, or will these garments remain current for a few seasons?
