Are you kidding me? I still have a Betsey Johnson evening dress I wore in the late 90s, that I adore. I would never, neva, give it up.

Although not a designer per se, Esprit & Diesel take me back to my teens and early 20's. So is Levi's, Contempo casuals and these brand I've never heard of in the US: Americanino.

.... And I interned for Benetton during all of my undergrad college years. You can't beat the 50% employee discount and the $500 clothing stipend every semester was the bomb. My entire closet was Bennetton and their sister brand Sisley.

Gloria Vanderbilt in the '70s. Wore lots of Japanese department store brands as a child.

I coveted Calvin Klein in the '80s, but wore a lot of Esprit, Levis and Benetton.

In the 90s, I discovered H&M and Zara and have never looked back. I don't buy anything at H&M for myself anymore (do take clients there though), but I can always find a few fun things at Zara.

Younger days - agnes b. was my early college "designer". She had a cool makeup line too.

High school (the early 80's) was all about Lacoste, Ralph Lauren Polo and Levis. I still adore Levis and some RL but not polo shorts at all. We did wear a lot of Espirit being close to their HQ in SF - they had a killer real outlet store back then. Laura Ashley for dresses. And Dittos for colored jeans.

Not really designers so much as brands I suppose. I didn't become aware of designer until mid college years.

Not a designer but Lane Bryant was my mid twenties. This was before Torrid. So there was a dirth of interesting/cool/trendy plus size clothes.
My year in the Bronx was defined by DKNY.

I'm with Rae - couldn't even afford to know about designers in my youth. I wore Levi's mostly. And found one particular brand of dress fit me like I was their fit model. But it was nothing designer - stuff you'd find in the mall for $40.

Well, I didn't know a thing about Designers until recently, but I sure did wear a lot of Dickies, Vans, and ShaShas in high school! College was the Lucky Brand and F21 era.

Courreges, Saint-Laurent, Mary Quant -- 1960s -- when I was in junior high and wanted to be a fashion designer. Carnaby Street and the Beatles were big. Twiggy supplanted Jean Shrimpton as the model du jour. I think my measurements were similar to Twiggy's -- except I was (and still am) a foot or two shorter. Oh, and Rudy Gernreich who designed a topless bathing suit.

Well, she's not a real designer, but I liked Lisa Frank stickers when I was like 8.

NicoleB posted about Betsey Johnson filing for bankruptcy, so I took a stroll through ebay for her stuff and was abruptly plunged into memory lane.

I COVETED Betsey in my 20's! I was in NYC and I used to make pilgrimages to her three stores - one on the upper E side, one allllllll the way by the east river in Midtown, and the one in Soho. I stalked her items at resale and vintage stores and on ebay. I still remember the giddy rush when I found something of hers that I could afford! The smell and feel of her fabrics, of her store, the distinctive look and feel of her patterns - how so many of them were slick on the inside and glided right on.

You know, back then I was very ill and very, very skinny (digestive disorder) - I had concave stomach, that tells you how very skinny I was! I also was in a lot of pain and in constant anxiety because let me tell you, digestive disorders can wreck your regular life. But the one bright spot was these lovely, lovely clothes with their over-the-top feminine swish. I couldn't wear all of the styles, but man, when I found the right ones, I rocked those babies!

It's funny, I also truly enjoyed the strict designs of the late 90s designers, and am still influenced by them today. But I have left Betsey behind. And scoring a vintage Helmut Lang or Jil Sander doesn't bring the same feeling as looking at these old Betseys. I still have a few packed away for DD. Maybe I'll take them out and look at them again.
