Ah,good to know I'm not alone?

Last (?) summer, I was determined to get the DV Pali wedges in taupe. I had gotten them in black with no problem, but no matter what taupe pair I ordered from Nordstrom and/or Amazon, there was a flaw in the leather or the color

The fifth pair was a charm BUT I had checked with Endless cust svc (which is associated with Amazon) to be sure I wasn't going to get a pair I had already amazon-returned . . .

This got me SO frustrated I actually tracked down and emailed Dolce Vita to tell them about their quality control. Never heard back from them (big surprise there).

Natalie - I use the Saved section of my Nordies cart for out-or-stock stuff -- so I remember to keep checking :-)

Ruth - that must be SOME clutch! Any pics of it?

Once I decide that I want something I tend to get a bit obsessive. The internet really enables this behaviour. This means a great deal of ordering and returning. (I have a pile of "noes" to return but will get to it now that school is out.)

Right now I am looking for a tea length navy-based print casual skirt and it's exhausting...

Can I join the support group?

More than once I've gone to the tailor, got an item pinned for alteration, gone home, wondered if maybe it wasn't quite right, and gone back to get it re-pinned.

Last year I returned four pairs of shoes consecutively, before I got the right ones. I started out with floral pumps, got home and realized that, beautiful as they were, they didn't go with much in my wardrobe. I took them back and got a pair of boots instead. The boots had a flaw, so I returned them for an identical pair, which the store had to have shipped in from Montreal. The second pair of boots seemed fine, but ended up having a heel that was put on crooked, so they were uncomfortable to walk in. So I returned those and had store credit, which I soon used on a beautiful pair of black pumps -- although I had to try two pairs (one at each store location) before I got the right ones.

That's my worst-ever, most obsessive story. Normally I'm not quite that bad.

on a trip, i found the perfect clutch. i visited it a few times to think about it since buying and returning was not an option. the day i was ready to buy, the store was closed for renovation. i chased down the main office number and made them bring a selection for my sister and me to my hotel room.

i love my purse.

Heh heh, is this the first meeting of our support group?

Hi, my name is Rae, and I've:

- dyed boots, dresses, and coats
- painted/dyed bags
- spent a good 3 months buying and returning boots that weren't quite right
- spent a solid week searching online for a bag that sold out in stores

I guess the thrill of the hunt is strong for us!

I have done lots of that kind of ordering but in general I'm too lazy to chase things down. :)

ETA: Funny, Natalie - you were the first person I thought of when I read this post!

I always order at least two pairs of any jeans that I'm buying online. One will always look better than the other. But much worse? I ordered twelve different pairs of boots this last fall in search of the perfect pair. Thank goodness for Zappos!

I ended up ordering three of the exact same size Kate Spade Japanese floral dress (the one I posted yesterday) because I am really picky about print placement. When the Anthro floral skirt I wanted was out of stock online, I got a list of five or six stores in the country that just might have one in stock and proceeded to call all of them to get one shipped to me. Same with a J Crew rust wool coat that was on sale. When the Halogen yellow pencil skirt was out in my size, I kept it on my wish list and checked it every few days until it showed available one day and pounced on it. Same with the agate dress that Rae had--when the XS was too small and the M was too big I kept stalking the Zappos site and sure enough one say the S was back in stock until I grabbed it--so it must have been a return that I nabbed. I tried on literally 50 pairs of jeans in one sitting when I first joined YLF before I figured out which one looked best on me (Gap Long and Leans).

Not that I'm obsessive or anything... :)

Fun thread Cathy! I hope Vicki chimes in--she's a dress sleuth!

I feel like I went through a lot just to get the pair of black crop pants I posted. I also have fussy feet so shoe buying is always an adventure. Maybe that is why I love Zappos so much! PPP is the way to be with our feet!

I have not gone that far (yet...but laughing here at the boxes), but I think you're very wise to be fussy. I have a few too many things hanging around that I didn't get returned/exchanged on time, and I'm going to work on becoming more like you are about these things!

So I am on the search for the perfect black wedge sandal. I think I found it, but my first pair was a bit tight, so I thought I'd try the next size up. But apparently I order the original size again by mistake! Two pairs of size 7.5 wedges now. I order the size 8 which seem to fit better. But one of the zippers is sticky, ugh. So now I order another pair of size 8s. Total: 4 pairs of the same shoe!

Obviously 3 of those pairs are going back. But as I sit surrounded by shoe boxes I have to wonder how far others have gone to get the perfect item. Over to you!
