Just a side note, this thread inspired me to rock my teal loafers today I paired them with slimboot dark jeans, a purple cowl neck T, grey cardi and teal, black and white print skinny belt.

I LOVE my pop of color loafers!

I love these Azalea pink Born loafers. The other colors are nice too.
I tried on a pair of pewter loafers a while back that were very comfy and had a great arch support. I am trying to find the link now.

Edit: Scroll down on the page to change the color from the nude color to Azalea pink.

Ooh these Ann Klien loafers might be just what you are looking for. They are more dressy than the Born and come in suede or patent leather, or regular leather. The wine patent is beautiful.

That red coat would look amazing with zebra, giraffe or leopard.

Zebra is a white and black print. Very graphic. Giraffe is a dark brown (in some cases, like my nine west pumps, it looks almost black) and white print that is less stripey than zebra. Leopard is brown and camel/tan spotted print. All would work great with the red coat. All would work great with your leather jacket too - though giraffe or leopard might have a slight edge over the zebra for that.

Easiest way to incorporate animal print shoes into your wardrobe is to keep the rest of the outfit simple and pattern-free. So I wouldn't wear animal print loafers with your sweet pea tops. But I would wear them with any other solid color top and jeans, black pants, gray pants (with zebra), camel pants (with the leopard). Cream pants work beautifully with both too.

Animal print is what I want next. Michelle- I have seen several pair that have a solid colored body, and an animal print on the top, as well as the whole thing in the print. Calf hair is popular in these right now. I'm loving the giraffe print, snakeskin, cheetah/leopard, and zebra.

Julie: yes, your description of the vamp issue makes lots of sense and I'll be sure to take that into consideration.
Shiny: I'd be more inclined to go for a subtle animal print like snake. Animal prints are another concept that I struggle to visualize and therefore never know when it would be appropriate or not.

And now I'm still super torn on the pewter/red question! I think I'm down to those two shades. The selection in stores may dictate this for me, but if people have strong opinions either way, by all means voice them! What do you think, Angie?

Michelle, I like the idea of red, pewter or purple. Your PPL trousers will create the leg line for you. If you are looking for a shoe to wear with trousers and skirts the vamp of the shoe is important. You would be looking for the top part of the shoe to end a little higher than where your toes begin. Does that make sense?

The pewter would seem more flop-proof when continuing the leg line with charcoal hose when wearing them with a skirt. Red or purple as well as pewter would be sweet peeking out from under bootcut pants and jeans.

I agree with the pewter suggested by everyone above. I went through the same racking of my style brain regarding the footwear color question and the general thought by the forum was that the vamp of the footwear etc also made a difference in how much it would shorten the legline. Loafers have a pretty high vamp usually so unless you are wearing them with a skirt(which would then show more leg) I think neutral is probably best. But if you are headed for a shirt, have fun with the red ones

I like colorful shoes. I'd probably go for a pewter loafer... or maybe a patent red or purple because I know you have pewter flats. I agree with Maya -- a colorful loafer would look less masculine! Color is your friend.

I think color and pant coordination is one of those things that is a tip but not really a rule. A closet full of dark or black shoes is too depressing for me to think about, especially with a loafer. You must add color! Loafers seem to work best when they come in an unexpected color (and they look less masculine that way). I'm dying to try the Me Too Nexi which comes in all sorts of delicious colors, including red! If you end up trying it, do report back on how comfy it is. Also, I guess black CAN work if it has some extra detail like a buckle or if it's patent or textured, but I think i still prefer color.

I feel very much at sea with the whole footwear question; I never know when to introduce a pop of colour or when to focus on the long lean line (L3)? As a result, much of my footwear is black to correspond with the dark bottoms I almost exclusively wear (dark-wash jeans and pants/skirts in either grey or black). I am considering adding a pair of loafers to my wardrobe. They'd be quite useful on days when my booties are a bit much and would get a lot of use during this unusually mild fall. My question to you now is what colour should I focus on? I don't think I want to go for black, but does that mean I couldn't wear them effectively with black pants? I'm sort of leaning towards pewter or red, but would welcome your comments on what would strike you as a versatile yet interesting choice. I intend to focus on a dressier style for maximum practicality.
