thank you everyone for your opinions about the colour.
Eva, I will definitely keep three neutral in my wardrobe. I just have to be patient and thoughtful with my purchases.
Gigi, I thought I was the only one who had trouble diferentiating among beige, camel, caramel, toffee and tan Here is the link to vivienne files where she did a capsule with navy and white as core neutrals. http://theviviennefiles.blogsp.....drobe.html
Off to check your link, Alana.

If it is a camel that goes well with the other camels you have and with the other neutrals you like, and I love navy and camel. I just don't think the important thing is what the website calls them. Either they work for you or they don't. I think it is a great color but I think there is just some "trendiness" in the naming of colors. Years ago, it might have been called beige, but beige covers a greater range of colors, some not as nice.

Mona, I'm laughing at myself because I mentioned the Vivienne Files in my comment, but I just found your other thread and see that that is where you have gotten the idea of core neutrals in the first place! Hee hee.

One thing that did confuse me a bit about her wardrobe method was the role of white/cream. If a person really likes white/cream, could that be a bona fide neutral? It would seem that if you wanted all your core pieces in white/cream, that would become a "real" neutral. So it's almost like the wardrobe has three neutrals. Or I suppose maybe her point is that you do have three neutrals (including white/cream), but one of them will clearly be in lesser use than the others.

It's late, so sorry if I don't make sense! Off to bed.

I was going to say camel too. I get really confused with browns, ugh. I just am starting to get a handle on what taupe is, at least I think!

I read on a blog...can't remember which one, but it was one of those French wardrobe deals...that you can just pick your two neutrals, as you have done, but then you just add as much white or cream as needed. So the white/cream doesn't really count as a neutral but rather is just considered to be part of what is needed to make the wardrobe work. I think it might have been the Vivienne Files blog, come to think of it. I think the instructions for a color palette were two neutrals plus white/cream, plus two accent colors.

I like your neutral picks! Navy and camel is one of my favorite combos.

Definitely camel! And it would work w navy & cream. (I agree w Suz that you should aim for 3 neutrals as your budget allows! Especially since your first 2 don't vary in shade the way tan or grey does. It's nice to have options.)

I also think it is too dark for beige - camel is more like it. Itwould look great with navy and cream

Aaah! That is what I thought but still wanted to confirm.
Suz, I will still keep white/cream as my main light neutral. I just thought this colour would come in handy in fall. It would still work well with navy. right?

In an effort to build a wardrobe of core neutrals of navy and camel/tan, I have been browsing internet for ideas. I came acress these pants on Bananna republic website. They are sold as beige. Do you think they can pass as camel/tan?
