Karie--nice point--they evoke fond memories. National Parks, especially, can have some great art.
Staysfit--Hopefully some of those tees you have from work, etc. are great designs. I know some annual events try to outdo themselves each year in the tee design. I recently went to the Santa Fe Opera, and each season has a poster done by a professional artist.

Sadly, I couldn’t afford the concert tees at the time I went to the concerts in my teens and twenties because I saw some awesome performances. My current graphic tee collection is mostly a reflection of academic institutions attended by me or my children, places I work or have worked, and I have a few from travel as mementos of places I have been. I have also had tees from every 5K, 10K, half and full marathon I ran, and that reflect various interests and hobbies. I wear them under blazers, with skirts and under nice cardigans.

I love graphics yes and have a closet shelf full of them. They have to be authentic, though - I have actually been to the places/events on the shirt. I’m a National Parks geek (and an ‘80s concerts geek too), and wearing my tee shirts always brings me back to what a fabulous time I had.

DonnaF--yes, I know it wasn't a good idea, I know it hurt a lot of people...but there are many people who still do. I guess what I was saying was a shirt like that brings awareness to those who don't know a lot about it, and those who still think it was a sound idea.

Umm, no; EO 9066 was never a good idea and was based on falsehoods that decisionmakers knew at the time were false. It has resulted in generational trauma with many stories that may never be told.

DonnaF--If you spend a good half hour to hour on the Internet, I bet you can find that Valkyries shirt. Political shirts are (almost) always a good idea, if they are not hateful. I had to Google your EO 9066, and now I am reminded of what it was, and how we all need to think about whether that was a good idea or not.

The masculine cut of most graphic tees don't work for me due to my narrow shoulders and don't come in the largest kid size. The ones I do own have semi-political messages: Side with Love; Filipino AF, EO 9066, etc. I WOULD like to get a Golden State Valkries tee in violet on charcoal black, preferably with long sleeves and in a kid size 16 or 14-16. Not asking much, am I?

Lisa--I love Life is Good, and once had a hat. They have such a different focus for their designs--almost like a newspaper comic. But looking at their website just now, it looks like their designs have changed.
Cookie--bakery tees sounds intriguing. And a patterned skirt is great. I used to wear a red paisley skirt with my Johnny Cash tee.
Lise--thanks! I did pick that muscle tee out for the color. It is a very specific shade of lavender I remember from my youth.
elena--with leopard print jeans, now there is an idea...a great idea. Could also go with colored jeans or faux/real leather pants.
Suz--they certainly are enjoyable--I only have a couple right now, too.
Sal--memory suggests that that is a Bruce album cover. I did not know there is a biopic coming out--will have to check that out.
Ket--yes!! that seems to be thinking outside the box. I think you had one you paired with a drapey skirt recently. I like the idea of summery footwear, layers, drama, etc.

LJP--good idea. Part of an emergency pack??
doggeh lover--checked it out. Oh, yeah, these are cool. I like that they use the full space, and the focus seems to be on the image rather than any text or idea.
Jaime--the first graphic tee I had that I can really remember I got in middle school. Boulder had a glass shop on the campus, and they had bootleg Calvin and Hobbes/Dead shirts. Calvin and Hobbes in a VW bus...
Janet--that is a nice array of tees, and I love the idea of the blanket. I have seen that before, but I do not think I would be organized enough to collect them. Tees are a great way to support a business, organization....it's true.
lyn67--sounds like maybe you like big, graphic designs and contrast. I do, too, but I don't intentionally seek them out. Would have loved to be at that concert...

cat2--that is the second mention of Lucky, must check it out. Also love Pendleton--don't have anything, but I love to cruise around the site.
MsMary--I'm sure the occasion does suit, from time to time. Reminds me that I have a white ballet wrap mini skirt that I can pair with capris...maybe I will try it with a graphic tee!
RobinF--good point. My Johnny Cash tee, at a pretty normal thickness, it getting a little tight, and I would wear it more if it were loose and comfy.
Angie--that kind of looks like my hair...
I love that t-shirt--black, white and red is a classic graphic tee combo.

AndiB--I love that those tees tie into your interests, and I love that you have an intentionality in how you wear them.
Jules--it is good to think about what toppers work! I can see what you mean about a hoodie being too soft. Like the denim idea.
Bonnie--nice tees, and I like the idea of a shacket with it. Hard for me to read that map on the NYC tee. Is it a certain part of NY? The Haring tee....he never made a bad design.

Runcarla--these are very classic designs, good choice. I also like this Captain America. I was so hesitant to see that movie, but so glad when I finally did.
Lise--a nice outfit idea. Authenticity is certainly favorable. I'd rather wear a band I knew than didn't know!
Irina--sounds great! There is a Vivaldi one here I have been to, and they also do a Taylor Swift one...others. I love the idea of cutting a graphic tee for extra flattery/interest.
Roberta--you do seem like a person who knows her graphic tees. I am going to have to spend a few minutes with the NYC streets one. I lived there, but have not been back in decades, and it is good to see if you can still picture the geography.

JAileen--so we are neighbors--I am here in NM. I love your tee, I guess because Nevada is so associated with built up Las Vegas. I have done my fair share of camping in Nevada.
slim cat--thanks for the tip on Lucky Brand. I will have to check that out!
Brooklyn--cool concept to add art tees. I really love illustration tees--I think I have had some by Ralph Steadman, etc. But Klimt, van Gogh, many...would be great as a graphic.
LJP--I think that is why I never bought graphic tees at a regular store. Mine have always been interesting--like bootleg Calvin and Hobbes/Grateful Dead from a glass shop. But that means they are few and far between.
Sloper--yes, I like tees like this a lot. A very skater art vibe. Do you mean cycling or motorcycle riding?

I love graphic tees and own a couple. I don't wear them a ton. I prefer v-neck and the vast majority are crew neck, including my two. But I do love the vibe of them.

When I wear them, I pair with a kimono or jacket, jeans/skirt, jewelry, smoky eyes or red lipstick, and fab footwear. On its own, a pair of jeans and a graphic tee just aren't quite enough on me. I need some drama and purr. Strappy sandals. Heels. Wedges. Booties. Pointy toe flats. Something. Ya know?

I prefer a graphic tee with fluid ease. Nothing too tight. I would even err going too large and knotting it or something.

I have one -Bruce Springsteen - who I have seen live twice.

I have a couple of logo tees but these stay as active wear. Bruce gets worn fairly regularly and will get worn to the upcoming biopic!

Jon wears them a lot and I have bought him a lot when travelling from “Rockford rivets” to “More trails please” and recently he got “Tito’s Iron Fist” to remember the socialist laundry in Sarajevo.

I mostly wear mine with jeans and a blazer or bomber. I used to wear graphic tees with shorts but now if I wear shorts I am more likely to choose a woven top.

I agree with Lyn67 that graphic tees are a way to add interest or focus to an otherwise plain outfit. I have a bunch, mostly black band or club tees with white designs (also only bands I’ve seen and places I’ve been!), and a few other things: a blue one from Thread Hippie with a big tiger face on it, an old surf style design from AllSaints, and a silk one with a fancy black and cream abstract design from Maje. I prefer a women’s cut in band tees, though I recently saw a band I loved and got their t-shirt even though it was a men’s M and too big - but I’m finding I like the slouchiness of it. (For anyone interested, the band is The Darts, from Seattle. All women, kind of punk rock-y, and they put on a very fun show!). I pair them with denim, black linen pants, leopard print jeans, low-profile sneakers, really anything works. I’m looking forward to layering jackets or dark denim shirts with graphic tees this fall.

a Johnny Cash, from the Johnny Cash Museum in Nashville.
a lavender muscle tee with ski company graphic--I got it because it reminded me of the people I grew up with--more apt to dress in REI clothes than regular clothes.

I agree that these tees can change from night shirt, to beach shirt, to evening out at a concert shirt....all the same shirt. My Johnny Cash shirt is like that. That is something interesting about them.

Somehow I have so many, as you have seen, even though unisex or boxy shirts are not a good look on me so I look for women’s styles or wear them pretty tight. Most of mine are not just house wear. I like them with full and/or patterned skirts. Strangely, few to none are band shirts. But I sort of have a joint collection going with my partner of cool-looking shirts from bakeries.

I'm on team graphic tee. I wear them often and have a large collection of them that I've gathered over time. Some are souvenir tees, and random brands when I like a design or statement on them, but most are from Life is Good. I'm a fan of their tees because they wash and wear well.

I wear my graphic tees casually most often. Usually with joggers, shorts, or jeans. Most often paired with a sweatshirt or quarter zip pullover as a topper. Although I will also pair my graphic tees with a plaid shirt, cardigan, jacket, or blazer too. It's all based on the weather and my mood.

I have some and mostly love them when/because I find the graphic on the front is a focus point so giving some structure to an otherwise plain and casual tee IYKWIM. The graphic on the tee is a kind of blocked/concentrated big scale pattern/color for me and helps with slicing/blocking out a bigger plain neutral area (as mines are reall all black, charcoal and white) and introducing some interrest. And like Angie, I mostly wear these under some kind of a topper (a blazer or a jacket) or alone for more casuals (in the summer).
Hah, Irina, Pink Floyd is my most favorite band and I surelly wore a band tee (the prism graphic) at a Roger Waters' this is not a drill gig 2 years ago (to a black pleated mesh midi skirt and a black denim jacket). And JAileen I also have the Beatles crossing Abbey Road one in a monochromatic charcoal as I love Beatles, too.

I have a ridiculous number of graphic tees, mostly band tees (and I have a rule that I have not broken yet, that it needs to be a band I’ve seen). Everything from Paul McCartney to Pixies, from St Vincent to Stereolab. Some of my oldest ones from the 80s and 90s I got made into a blanket. They are meaningful and sentimental to me, as my radio DJ days were very important in my life! I also had a blanket made from tees from the radio stations where I worked.

I also have some from local clubs, national parks, my favorite baseball team, etc. Lots of local interest ones, bought mostly in support of small indie bookstores and the like. For example, the one below.

I do wear my graphic tees, usually dressing down a pair of trousers or a skirt, with a jacket. I like the juxtaposition with items that feel a little more formal.

I wear graphic tees around the house - although this could easily change with the right tee and right mood. I am usually concerned with the quality of the cotton first and the graphic second. Although I went to a fair amount of concerts when I was younger, I did not collect tees. Did the Grateful Dead even sell tees? I don't remember .
