No way! I won't wear them. Too much back side show. Cover up.

antje, I like the mid rise jeans too--they seem to fit me better than the low rise BUT I like the look of the low rise and would love to have a nice pair that will fit without showing muffin! LOL! I've heard of J-brand but they're so expensive!

I'm an hourglass and low rise jeans would be awful on me (muffin top). Mid rise jeans fit okay, but I still have the issue of my waist being slimmer than my bum/hips. I recently started taking them to the tailor to get the waistband at the back taken in a bit. It makes a big difference, they look and feel much better that way! It's really not a huge deal to have that part altered, I'd encourage you to try it out.

OH - I get it now! You're talking about real low rise. I was thinking about mid-rise. Sorry! You're right - they do fit without gaping. I guess you have to be stick straight to not to get muffin top?

I think you just have to try on every pair out there and find the one that fits your body. I'm still searching, but I have to say I have tried on a few that surprised me with how much better they fit. Usually the more expensive ones, unfortunately - Joe's Jeans, COH, J. Brand, etc. I have heard good things about Old Navy, but I haven't tried them yet.

Tarzy, I guess the fact that the low rise jeans sit lower...it fits better w/out having any gaping in the back. It doesn't look the best but it sure beats those regular jeans where there's at least 2 to 3 inches of gaping in the back!

Ugh. Jeans. I'm an hourglass too (I think.)

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that low-rise jeans fit you in the waist. I always find they gap a lot in the waist when they fit in the hips.

But the thing I like about low rise jeans is that they seem to fall straighter from the hips and I like that (I have thigh issues.)

However - I don't know if it's because I have a long waist or because my stomach is fat - but when I wear lower rise jeans there always seems to be a lot of fabric in the front. (I guess from my stomach bulge.) If I wear a belt to keep them up, I get more bulge from the belt buckle that you can see under my shirt. Does that make sense? When I wear a higher rise jean I don't need to wear a belt, so I don't get that odd belt bulge.

I think low rise jeans look great on women who have more boyish figures.

Lowrise jeans give me crazy muffin top and a nice little peek-a-boo in the back whenever I sit down. I condemn them bitterly.

I'm not super hourglassy like you or Tanya in that I have a rather thick waist, but I like jeans that have a curved waistband so they are higher in the back than in the front. That gives my ample bum coverage without giving me "front butt." How much it curves depends on your body type I guess. If your waist is tiny and your bum average, you can probably go as low as 8" in the front and 11-12 in the back. I have a big bum and a high waist so I need to go as high as 10" in the front and 14" in the back to really be comfortable.

Hmm, I see why you think they help the waist/hip issue, but I personally think that they are not the solution, since as you say yourself, they give you the muffin top. Most of us look the best in mid-rise jeans ( 1-2" bellow the belly button).

I am also a hourglass and have very similar measurements to yours ( 25" waist, 37" hips), so I know what you are dealing with. There are two general solutions:

1) get jeans that fit you well on the hips, back and thighs, have the right rise, and than have the waist taken in at the tailors

2) look for jeans that were made for body types like ours, like Joe's jeans Honey. Muse by the same brand is also very good.

Since it's already official what my body shape is (Hourglass), is it possible to get away with wearing low rise jeans with out distorting my shape? The reason I ask is because I notice that low rise jeans look kind of funny on me! I get the "muffin top" effect when I wear these type of jeans. One reason why I only purchase low rise jeans is the fact that it fits me better, meaning the waist is small which accompanies my smaller waist without having to have anything taken in the waist. Angie and everyone else who is an hourglass, can I wear low rise jeans? If so, what tops should I wear them with to show off my curves?
