Dresses, always dresses. I feel put together from head to toe with just one piece. I can dress them up with a structured jacket or add a little cardi for warmth. Pop on some booties or cage sandals and I am ready to walk out the door.

Sending a ((hug)) to Denise^^ and her violin! ;)

No brainer items for me are a pencil skirt and a cardi. Easy-peasy! And right now I have the perfect pair of white denim shorts that are proving themselves to be wonderful to style. In fact, I'm heading out to buy another pair this morning.

Right now I am reaching for:

shorts (usually knee length or no more than mid-thigh)
loose top
sandals.
ponytail holder

All I can manage is a watch. Too hot for other accessories

I've put straps back on my clutch bags because I feel so hot, stressed and tired, I'm afraid I won't remember the bag unless it is strapped to me.

Summer is not vacation for me, it is working 6-7 days a week, often outside, in very hot weather.

(And the world's smallest violin was playing while I wrote this...)

My initial thought was what Zapotee said (and Lyn, too). Everything seems hard to style.
But I'd say I agree with Unfrumped--I do find knit tops with crew, boat, or moderate scoop necks pretty easy to style. And my skinny jeans are pretty easy, because I can wear them with any footwear I own.

I'm with you, Una, on pencil skirts. I have trouble with a lot of skirts, actually--even just finding the right length to start with is hard, and then actually pairing them with something flattering? Yikes!

To the extent that "no-brainers" exist in my fashion world, it applies to clothing items once I have them in my closet. I am trying to do my heavy lifting more in terms of the acquisition process and less in terms of my daily dressing routine. This is a work in progress. I am on team trousers and I find that I can style them once I decide they are for me and play with other items. If I have the right pair of jeans (straight legs at the moment), the right pair of killer black cigarette pants, the right silk track pants, the right casual linen pants, etc., I am good to go with some deliberation and playing around at home time. It takes effort, but feels manageable once I decide to try them on with tops and toppers.

That said, I have brought home skirts that haven't been worn in almost 2 years. I have not invested any time into figuring them out. They probably are not and never were the right skirts for my style, but I never gave them a chance either. At this point, if 2 perfect for me skirts were delivered by a fashion fairy godmother, I would love to wear them. Oh well, I am realizing I have made great progress with pants.

Handbags are the true no brainers for me. I love them, practice PPP religiously and don't find it stressful to decide who gets to come out and play. Ironically, what makes them no-brainers is that I already know exactly what I want from them function and appearance-wise, quickly can ruling them in or out when shopping. I have the same sensibility about footwear, but find the fussy foot factor obliterates my style clarity way too often.

Una- thanks for starting such an interesting thread. As always, I am learning a lot from everyone here.

Black pants and sheath dresses with tights. Oh, and booties. These items provide a template which I can dress up or down with jackets, sweaters, belts, etc. Unlike almost everyone else in the whole world, I have an awful time wearing jeans.

I was going to say what Zap said. I feel as if everything takes some thought. It's not an awful struggle or anything (the thinking is mostly fun) but it does take deliberation.

This is a bit funny, because I remember when I first joined YLF I wondered what all the fuss about "styling" was. I mean -- you find some stuff that goes together and put it on. What's the big deal, right?

Then I learned about proportion, and how I still don't get it. Gah!

Having said that, I think maybe Donna captured my own thoughts best. I seem to have an easier time styling accessories. This summer, my bright bags have been brilliant for me, really adding something special to the outfits, and I've already begun to love my bright sandals. And in the fall and winter, I found it super easy to add scarves to give an outfit some zip.

I guess in general -- the right jeans (silhouette doesn't matter as long as I love the fit), booties, a turtleneck, a jacket -- that's a FFBO, but also a no-brainer most of the time.

- Dresses (once I find the right one)
- Moto jackets
- Denim jackets
- Dark wash jeans in straight or bootleg cuts, although I've gotten much more comfortable with skinnies as well. I still struggle with BFs.
- Fitted shirts
- Boots and sandals

I struggle a bit with most skirts, slouchy pants, and many drapey tops.

Great question! For me, it's dark-wash boot-cut jeans, white jeans, white tees or shirts, classic striped shirts, riding boots. these are no-fail items for me - i always feel good in them and never have a problem building an outfit around them.
