I like Paige or J Brand and generally buy them at Rack or TJ. I also like Levi’s again now that they have the High Rise Skinny and the Wedgie. Macy’s always has them on sale. I have two pairs of Lucky Brand that I wear a lot. Although I love premium denim, I must confess that I never pay over $100 for jeans. Best wishes as you embark on the hunt for the perfect pair.

I'm so glad you found jeans that work for your height! I am on the other end of the spectrum (I'm only 5'2"), and it gets tiring having to have everything altered.

My favorite jeans are Topshop, J.Crew, and Free People. Topshop and J.Crew both offer short inseams--I think they offer tall as well. Free People inseams have always seemed to me to be on the generous side. I like the curvy jeans at Free People (I have a bigger booty); they are very comfy and are of decent quality.

If you want to try a midprice jean, I would try something from Banana Republic or J. Crew, because they often seem suited for straighter bodies. And I think they both have tall inseams. I would try a variety of styles, because some styles are better suited for a straighter body type than others, and there's not always a way to know that information before trying on the jean.

If you ever want a more premium jean, you could maybe try Reformation. I haven't tried them myself, but based on reviews I have read, they seem to be made for taller women with a straight figure.

Old Navy can be really spotty. I remember looking at the garment labels when I was in there once, and two pairs of jeans, exactly the same style, rinse, and size, had two different fabric labels! The SA told me that Old Navy has so many factories that you might have a single style of jean made at two different factories, with the fabric content being different at each factory.

Old Navy, Loft, Eddie Bauer, Talbots - curvy and tall cuts with all of those - and Duluth Trading. I used to have good luck with Target brands that don’t exist anymore, and Nine West. Lucky Brand if I’m feeling fancy.

Totally get it Jess and admire your commitment to staying in the budget that works for you! I do have one ON pair of jeans that I bought on a whim because they were a slightly trendier style, and they've been good - with jeans I find every brand is the right fit for the right person ... it's just a matter of finding which brand that is for you. Gap does have very aggressive sales sometimes (as do other brands I'm sure) so if there's a brand you like that's out of reach, it still might be worth keeping half an eye on them as you never know what you might catch on discount. Good luck with the search!

Thanks for posting, I am reading your thread with great interest because I am in need of recommendations for good jeans that offer longer inseams. Have you tried any Loft jeans? I like the black Modern Skinny jeans with the tall inseam (29 inches). Watch for the Loft sales promotions, you can get 30-50% off, sometimes 60%.

The fabric on the side is starting to wear out so I wear them less often now.

I just purchased a pair of AG last month.

I don’t wear jeans enough to have an opinion, but the belt loop ripping off sets off danger signals. I’m laughing, but wonder if it’s ever happened. We see lots of kids in bike seats on the back of their parents’ bikes. I assume they are buckled in as securely as my kid was when we had one. But I have seen several kids who seemed to think their parents’ belt loops were handles. They’re right there, at just the right height and are just the right size for a young ones hands. Particularly when they lean into a corner, the kids hang on tight! Just imagine their surprise if a belt loop came off in their hands!

Style Fan-
You have a great selection of jeans This year I have gotten less skinnies and tried the Boyfriend fit and so far have been happy trying something new. The Levi’s slim you’ve shown looks like it might be something I’d wear too.

nemosmom-
Great tips on finding the right fit, although I’m afraid most of Old Navy jeans stretch somewhat for me so I’ll only keep the ones that I can manage the waist instead of leg stretch, and to pull the jeans by the waist when I can’t wear a belt, and not pull the belt loops, it’s a bad habit I have to break :D
A few of the Nordstrom jeans you posted are nice, but right now out of my budget unless I can find them second hand online and it’s harder for girls like me that need the longest inseam length for everything lol.

Glory-
At American Eagle or Old Navy they have plenty of great Bootcut and Straight jeans that fit great, you might want to try them or browse online to see your options, I am very happy with those brands.

Janet-
I understand how jeans aren’t always so comfortable in the heat, you could try Crop or Bermuda fit to allow some air flow. What inseam are you? American Eagle has had the longest inseam so far at almost 36, I’ve been very happy with the length!

torontogirl-
Gap is a great brand, recently it’s been slightly too pricey for my budget so I go to Old Navy instead. The jeans also tend to fit on the shorter side and the waist seem larger than Old Navy so I must belt them. Maybe one day I’ll try to get a new pair.
I do have one old pair from Gap; it’s Bootcut with button pocket flaps in back that still fit me but they are starting to get worn on the bottom of the legs from years of wear.

Jules-
Isn’t that great how American Eagle has a wide variety of fits for ALL body types, I love how they don’t make women feel like you need to be a certain size to feel beautiful and when I purchase from them I keep that in mind.
It’s great how your Daughter loves their jeans, but girl age means nothing you can wear them too! You might want to start out and try a dark blue wash skinny or in black, it’s a good look for Work or any occasion out. With a shirt tucked and belt it looks good enough for a dress-casual outing or if work requires a dress attire. Of course you can pick any style jean you like, but skinny seems to be the #1 seller as of now.

Angie-
I don’t even need to tell you that you pick out great clothing we all know your fantastic at it, but I’m saying it anyway Thanks for sharing! ❤️

kkards-
Gap is a great brand but slightly out of my budget currently; although I own one pair of Bootcuts from them I have had for years.
As for the belt issue, most of my belts are 1- 1.5 inches wide so a standard belt size, they fit well in the loops. For some reason Old Navy brand belt loops tend to come off easily because I’ve never had that issue with American Eagle.
I only pull up the jeans if I decide to not wear a belt. I rarely find jeans that truly fit perfect, I have a long torso, long legs, not butt, flat stomach, but wide hips. I’m nearly 6 foot tall and thin so jeans are VERY hard to find for me and a belt usually is a must especially on low rise jeans, I cannot afford to have every jean altered.
How do you wear your belts and what kinds, is there any tips I should try if the belts you think aren’t right for my jeans?

my jeans are a mix...i've found great ones at Target and Gap...but i've also found some premium pairs that i really like as well....

re the issue you're having with belt loops. 1) are the belts that you are wearing the right size? it sounds like they may be to wide for the pants you are wearing them with....2)if you are constantly hiking them up, you may want to think about having the waist altered

For my winter skinnies that are stretchy yet thick enough to be flattering and not bag out, Mavi.
I have had good luck with Old Navy high cotton content jeans.
Good info on the quality of AE jeans. My daughter shops there and I am pleased to note that they seem to be on the body positivity and size diversity bandwagon with extended sizes to 22 in a variety of lengths available on line (I do wish they had more available in store though...). It got me thinking I might try them for myself, although a lot of the styling is extreme/trendy for a middle aged mom :)
Here’s a screen cap of an email AE sent me yesterday, to demonstrate what I mean about their body postivity. I loved this photo! It’s not just her size but the pose. It’s so refreshing to me and on a practical level, makes shopping for my teen daughter much easier.

I’m looking forward to getting back into jeans — it’s too hot here in summer for me to enjoy them.

My favorites in premium are Paige, AG, Rag & Bone, and DL1961. For mid-range, Lucky fits me well, but their latest styles stretch and bag out a bit too much with wear. Anthro’s Pilcro line is really good. And I have a pair of Levi’s that is really nice too.

ETA I have trouble finding full-length jeans long enough too!

Another one who lives in jeans. In my closet I have several pair of « D.Jeans » which I purchased at Winners. I also have a pair from Highline. At Nas I purchased two pairs from Wit and Wisdom. All of my jeans are skinny but I would love a straight leg or bootcut if I could find a good fit.

I live in jeans, too and have a lot of pairs at various price points. I've had the belt loop rip off, too - you gotta train yourself to pull at the waistband; not by the loop. Also, when evaluating whether to keep or return a pair, wear them around the house for a day before cutting the tags off - you'll get a good idea of how bad they will bag or sag.

My favorite low and mid-price brands are Lucky Brand, Madewell, Levi's, Caslon, Treasure&Bond, and H&M (though their sizing is horribly inconsistent; when you find a good pair they will wear well). For premium brands I like AG, Paige, Mother, Frame, Good American, 7FAM. You can usually find them discounted at Rack or Marshalls. Once you find a brand and specific style name that you love, you can shop for them secondhand.

Here are a few that I love:

For mid-price jeans, I like Levis. For higher-end jeans, I like Fidelity, Frame, Citizens of Humanity, 7 For All Mankind and Mother. It really depends on the style of the jean. I am not a big fan of skinnies. I prefer straight-legged, boyfriend, wide-legged, boot cut, flared, just about anything else except skinnies.

The finds show some of my jeans.

I don’t really wear real jeans anymore, but have to say I always liked Target jeans. I find my fake jeans at those cheapie teenybopper stores and Ross; these are probably my very favourite now. For pricey jeans, I like Paige.

First, let me start of by saying that I absolutely live in jeans and I am not ashamed to admit that I’ve got well over 30 pairs. ☺️ When I post my outfit photos I am always in jeans

The two main stores I buy my jeans at are American Eagle and Old Navy.
I love American Eagle brand because they always have a wide range of Jean styles for a good price, and especially that I am tall they have plenty of extra long inseams for me and that is very hard to find usually. My favorite styles would be kick boot and skinny; but recently I tried boyfriend fit fearing they wouldn’t fit me and be too lose like old pairs but they fit great and I fell in love, they fit me well and match most of my outfits I wear regularly. They also give me the appearance of a slightly larger booty as I am not gifted in that area The material is great quality and lasts for many years! I also like how some pairs have the yellow logo on the back pocket for some added style, but if I want to dress down I’ll wear ones with the blue logo that are nearly invisible.

Old Navy also has great jeans for a fair price. Until recently they always had too short of an inseam to fit me but now they finally have the longer inseam for us tall girls. I used to only buy the Diva fit until they got rid of it, I stick with bootcut and skinny style jeans in the dark washes now.
I have had two issues which I hope Old Navy will fix. I find that the material will stretch over the day and I’ll either yank my pants up or have to wear a belt, the waist isnt a huge issue with a belt, but stretching in the legs is! Sizing down is too tight, sizing up too large; so I’m kind of stuck with the stretching pants lol. The second issue is the belt loops tear so often, just putting a belt through some have come off and also using them to yank up my jeans (is there any proper way to? ) But, despite this they are my second fav brand.
