I am sorry I didn't get chance to comment individually on all of your goals, but thank you very much for chiming in. I will start a new thread at the end of the month to see how well you did and what more you need to accomplish in November!
Good luck!

Do a complete edit/purge of my closet/wardrobe. So many times over the years I have started this project, but never completed it! I never look at/go through/or wear the clothes that are stuck up on the highest shelves or back in the farthest corners from the doors. So, by the end of this month - I will have taken everything out of my closet, tried it on and either put it in the donate bag, the toss bag, or hang it up in the FRONT of my closet. I will also go through every single one of my accessories and come up with an organized way to store them, so that they are protected from dust, but also easily accessible and I can actually enjoy and wear them! I'd like to do more than this - but I think I need to be realistic and save some of my more "advanced" goals for Nov., Dec., Jan. Feb. . . . !

I would like to not look like a schlump at preschool drop off every morning. Its three days a week. Seriously, I can do this. Oh, and at orchestra rehearsal on Thursdays, so thats four days a week when I will look nice.

SO.

Dress nice (IE real clothes) four days a week.
Take AND post one outfit picture here a week
Clean out my closet - a practical physical cleaning, not a purge, I'm talking a dustmop and windex clean here.
Maybe post before and after pictures of the closet?
Get my jeans hemmed.
Identify one accessories hole and fill it.
wear scarves once a week
wear one MOTG formula a week

ok thats plenty. :D

I like this thread. Goals are good.

I want to figure out how to wear my flat oxfords. I also need to figure out how to make my wardrobe work for my return to work and the logistics of pumping milk there. This was made so much easier by the fact that I can fit back in most of my pregnancy pants! Yippee! I wasn't expecting that to be the case.

Ironically, before I even knew this website existed (a week ago), I did a major closet purge coupled with an I'm-tired-of-looking-like-a-sloppy-frump-in-my-ultra-discount-clothing-when-I-can-afford-nice-stuff-dammit midlife turnaround. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

I took 3 bags of clothes and shoes to Goodwill, sent another 2 bags to my sister and nieces, bought my first pair of black leggings since 1983 (*sigh*), and actually did RESEARCH before making a pilgrimage to Macy's. The photos people are posting here, and the input from other women is SO inspiring to me. I may actually post one myself after I work up the courage!

So MY goal for October is to treat myself like the professional, deserving woman I am and develop a "look" that is really me and that doesn't involve worn-out black slacks that don't fit or cheap-looking tops that I got for $5 at Ross. In that spirit, here's my oath:
I vow to no longer purchase something just because it's 75% off. There's a reason it's 75% off - NO ONE WANTS IT!
I vow to browse the "New Arrivals" racks at TJ Maxx and Marshall's before heading to the Clearance rack. As much as it hurts.
I vow to think quality instead of quantity next time I shop. Five ugly polyester blouses that cost $7 each, that don't fit properly, and make me look like an extra in a 1980s soap opera are really not a bargain.
I vow to remember that small waist and big hips used to be fashionable and there are pants out there for me (just not the ones in the Juniors section, or anything with "ultra-low-rise" in the name).
I vow to buy a black pencil skirt.
I vow to work a scarf into at least one outfit. And not the wool one I wear to the mountains - a real scarf.
I vow to find a fashionable friend. (let me explain, I LOVE my girlfriends, but we are all - mostly - government lawyers and judges who are either wearing the same boring suits if we're in trial, or sporting sloppy business casual because our offices have very laid-back dress codes.) I need some in-person constructive criticism.
I vow to quit wearing my black Skechers to work. I work in a courthouse, for goodness sake, not a Denny's. And NO, they don't match with my robe!
I vow to wear the black pencil skirt. No matter how scared I am.

OK, that's quite a lot for one month (and for my first post). I am very excited to get started!!

My goals for October is to:

1) Clean out my wardrobe and go through every drawer, hook, hanger, shelf and basket of clothing, shoes and accessories. I intend to ruthlessly cull anything which isn't 100% fabulous.

2) Bring any clothes and shoes which need repair to the tailor and cobbler

3) Wear everything in my wardrobe before it gets too cold!

4) Come up with my go-to emergency outfit for this winter. You know the one that look appropriate in most situations, is comfortable and stylish,

5) Have fun with my clothes. I feel as if I spent the last five months wearing nothing but pencil skirts and shirts so I want to venture out and try something new!

Love the idea of making sure everything is in tip top and wearable condition but for this month my goal is to complete my wardrobe edit. I need to be ruthless and (to use Hanna's words) edit down to '100% wearable and fabulous'. My second goal is to make sure I have completed most of my spring/summer shopping plan so that I have a really workable wardrobe.

Wow bella, VERY impressive! My main autumn style goal is to master the art of wearing leggings with long tunics/short dresses and, hopefully, rocking them in a major way! I recently accomplished a complete wardrobe purge and am excited about my fashion future. I purchased several fine-gauge cotton cardigans, lots of pima cotton tees and three fierce pencil skirts - one black, two animal print. Still seeking leopard ballet flats. Checking in on this forum keeps me informed AND inspired!

my goals:

- edit my wardrobe down to the 100% wearable and fabulous. i finally redid my whole room (long story, but when my parents moved into our current house i was in the states, and the room ended up not being very me at ALL), and now have a MUCH better closet system. so i'm working on making sure i only have clothes i really love in it!

- wear everything i own.

- start blogging and posting photos again!

Wow, that is really impressive Bella. I don't know if I could be as disciplined as you are. How fab that you found a tailor you trust!

My goals will come in phases. The first phase, which will probably take up most of October, is to get my fall wardrobe as much in shape as possible before moving. After I move, I won't have the same kind of expendable income I have now, so it's crucial I get all the big ticket items out of the way now (footwear mostly).

The second phase will be sorting out closet space. Honestly, I am REALLY stressed out about this. I'm going to be crammed in a tiny studio apartment and I have no idea how I'm going to house all of my clothes and shoes. I don't have a huge wardrobe, but I don't have a tiny one either. I use an entire room just to air dry my laundry each week. Much as I despise the idea, I'm probably going to have to take advantage of a dry cleaner, because I doubt I'll have room to dry all of my clothes flat and iron them.

It makes me sick to think that I'll probably have to get rid of a lot of pieces I like and want to keep, but I think that will probably end up being the case. It's troublesome that the first phase of my fall goals are directly at odds with the second phase, and I need to find a way to reconcile that.

The third phase is learning how to create rich, layered, unexpected, textural looks--despite what will probably end up being a small wardrobe. It's going to be tough. Sigh.

My goal is to actually stick to my $100 a month budget for the rest of 2010. I've been spending about $200 a month while filling wardrobe gaps, and now I think I'm finally done filling holes.

I'm also going to continue my wear everything twice challenge, and stay focused on only buying and keeping clothes that I love and wear.

Fabulous goals!

Stephanie - I think accomplishing my goals will take some time as well since I am very busy, too. The most important thing is to start working on them!:)

Random Thought - a puppy is totally worth putting everything else on the backburner. How fun!

Angie - I really hope there is a blog post in the works!I am looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Marianna- I am sure you'll look great in pants as well.

Steffie - I am sure having to wear a uniform is challenging when you have so many fabulous things hanging in your closet. Perhaps, you can post outfits here, it will motivate you to try new combinations over the weekend.

Wow,
I am really inspired. Angie mentioned white tunic shirts which I have one from BB that never quite worked- but I'd like it to work! So I took a good long look at it on and realized it was too long- just got it and some other things ( a jacket with sleeves too long, some items that really needed to be pressed, etc) back from my cleaners/tailor - can't wait to figure out some good outfits.I also returned stuff that were sitting in my closet with tags on from the NAS- I think I've become a bit of a skinny cargo junkie: I have dusky olive Houlihans, Sanctuary in black and khacki (gotta love Nordstrom- they came from KS) and I got my second pair of Houlihans in denim. They are so comfy and fun. And I'm going to wear my denim Houlihans riding- why not use them?
Lastly, for those of you looking for equestrian boots- consider the real deal; they are available at all price points, come in different leg widths and heights. My Nike loving feet do well with Ariats.

I keep coming back to this thread. I love your goals, Bella. You're so organized! I've tried to respond several times but get overwhelmed. After a bit of thought, I've decided on a few. I just got the sleeves altered on three jackets--that was a huge accomplishment for me. I think my next goal is to try and put together one "new" outfit a week instead of wearing the same old combinations. My second goal is to figure out what to do with a couple orphans. I'll be posting those soon. Thanks for making me think about this!

Go for it, Marlene!

I actually do not have any fashion goals for October, I want to just get outside with the family, enjoy the light, collect conkers and wear my jackets because winter in Scotland is probably only a month away.

Bella you are organised on a completely higher stratosphere than me. I really respect that.

I need to do a thorough clean out of my closet. I have already evaluated most pieces, but I need to get rid of the ones that failed. I have been waiting until I receiving my fall/winter orders so I am not caught "out in the cold" without warm clothes, so to speak.

I need to finalize my orders and make some decisions, because despite our unseasonably warm weather at the end of this September, it is going to get cold fast. This includes buying some boots!

I have two sweatshirts and a coat that I need to decide whether to keep or return.

I also want to play around with the one "indoor" scarf, my cloche, and my jewelry and see what I can do with the accessories I have and what would be good to invest in (a belt, some beads, more hats and scarves, ect).

I would like to post my first WIW today this month.

Toward then end of the month I probably need to get a haircut-- it has been five weeks and I still hate the one I got at the end of August. Darn, I also have to buy a new foundation sometime soon.

Wow Bella, awesome goals. Your wardrobe is going to refreshed and more fabulous than ever.

My goal is going to be to really try to take advantage of my wardrobe. Because I wear a uniform during the week, I only have 2 opportunities a week to wear anything I like. It's not right how I fall back on the same 3-4 dresses every weekend when I have so many gorgeous things to wear! So I am going to mix it up!

Oooh, I like the idea of fashion goals for the month!

-I am going to continue the SYC-dressing challenge, where I highlight at least one older piece from my closet and try to rotate as much as possible. I've just done a bunch of fall/winter shopping so the impulse is to wear all new stuff -- but I kept the old stuff for a reason and I want to remember that.

-To try more silhouettes. I am giving the big blouse look a try; I picked up the Calvin Klein blouse in white (the green is on its way from another store) last night and I will give the true voluminous look a whirl. I am also really enjoying the bootcut look again.

-To mix up my shoes more. September was a lot of flats, which I have been loving, but it's time to rotate in my heeled oxford shooties, more of my boots, and my clogs and loafers, etc.

-Stay on top of my laundry more. With a smaller wardrobe and most of my clothes being fine in the delicate cycle, when I let the laundry go for two weeks I completely forget about perfect pieces for outfits because they are buried at the bottom of the pile!

In all seriousness, the lack of a laundry room in October (see above) will probably make me shop my closet much much more! It's just bad timing, packing for a friend's wedding, my wedding, honeymoon, etc.

Excellent list, Bella, I'm inspired!

My main goal is try to style everything I own and stop saving my Sunday best. Wear a boyfriend cardigan... finally. Find one new brooch/pin.

Find a new tailor. Dry clean (or Dryel) what I wore on my recent trip.

In the more immediate future, a load of ironing is in order.

I'm in a pencil skirt rut! They're all I wear to work -- and I am sick of it. I need some variety. So my fashion goal for October is to acquire some fab work appropriate pants... I need to figure out work outfits that don't revolve around a pencil skirt!

Okay, seriously.

I have been completely overhauling my wardrobe because I'm wearing much smaller sizes than I was last fall. Yay, me! And thanks to YLF, I am trying to be fashionable for once in my life.

I did another big shop today so I'm pretty well set, I think. Would still like to find a military jacket, but I think I'll wait until it finds me, I think. I'm sure other gaps will reveal themselves in due time, but so far I'm good to go.

In particular, thanks to the YLF influence, I have procured the following items that wouldn't be in my wardrobe otherwise:

3 pair of boots
2 long flyaway cardis
2 black pencil skirts, one with edgy exposed zipper in back
big shirt/tunic
a couple of fab belts
big messy multicolored scarf
fishnet tights
skinny jeans
bootcut jeans
AT Loft microcheck pants
AT Loft dotted blouse
2 pair leggings
a too-short-to-wear-on-its-own dress to wear over the leggings
a leopard-print cardi
3 GAP cardis recommended by Angie for us petite girls
teal Halogen cardi
70s-look shawl-collar olive cardi from H&M

I've re-organized my closet and have four bags of castoffs ready to donate. I've started a wardrobe inventory so I'll know what I have and can think up fun combinations. And I'm wearing my existing pieces in fun new combinations.

Still to do: I have a big "take to the cleaners" pile. I also need to think about taking a couple of skirts to the tailor to be shortened.

And I am still waiting for some fall weather!!!

bella - you are like the Martha Stewart of fashion -- have you ever seen her monthly calendar of *things to do*?

I am inspired by your list and need to think up goals (*waving to chewy*) as there are lots of small needs in my closet. . .
