I really like purple and olive! I just got this top and am thinking it will look good with my olive utility pants. I'm not sure they're a true olive, maybe more of a sage. But I think this would work either way.

I often wear olive as a neutral. I pair it with cream, golds, navy, cranberry, tan, black, tomato red and cobalt blue. I frequently pair my olive with patterns.

Olive is a neutral color, so I think it is not so much which color works with olive, but what shade of a color works with your specific shade of olive. Each shade of olive works well with some shade(s) of pink, purple, orange, brown, blue, yellow, beige and even other shades of green (not to mention white, black and gray) - but not with all shades of these colors. Some shades of olive work well with baby pink and sage green while others may work better with peach pink and greenish yellows for example.

I also think of olive as a neutral. The R&B pants are very dark, they almost look black so will go with most things.
I like the combo with orangey reds and particularly love combining olive and lavender.

I also bought those jeans, and am looking forward to wearing them - it's still to warm here to wear them (Well, I could if I really wanted to, but I put long denim pants off as long as possible and continue to wear my lighter clothes while I can. The cooler months drag on long enough, I do anything not to start wearing those clothes early)

Olive is a new colour to me, not in my palette, and not one I intend to add any more of. But I loved these, so.... here they are. These guys have to go with things I already have... black, navy, white, denim, chambray... and I look forward to experimenting with other colours I have in my wardrobe. And getting ideas from all of you!

I personally do not like "dirty" shade colours (which I consider these) combined with the clear saturated colours I usually wear. The tones clash to my eye. So I question how much I'll wear them with my existing coloured tops... we will see how many of them pass my personal poison eye test.

My favorite pairing with olive is purple, followed by navy. I have always loved purple and olive together, and I'm so glad I have olive pants back in my closet. It's been years since I've had any (besides camo), and they're making me really happy.

Aquamarine, you are right. They are not quite black, not quite olive. I wore them with some 'tobacco' colored Birkenstocks because my black or navy shoes didn't look quite right.

I bought those pants too but have not worn them yet (too warm here). I am planning on wearing them with black, burgundy, a bright navy, light gray, and two Breton tops...one navy with white stripes, the other white with navy stripes. I also have a black utility vest I hope to pair with them, over a white top (we'll see if that works).

The pants are a very dark olive, as you know, almost black, so a bit trickier I think than a true olive.

It helps if you think of olive as a neutral!

Black is a no-brainer, as is white and denim... have already been doing that with my olive army jacket.

I just got some olive jeans at LOFT and have already worn them with navy. And I plan to wear them with grey as well --

Angie, I know you said grey only as accents but I was wearing the jeans when shopping and they looked stunning with an oversized pearl grey sweater. It has to be just the right shade/sheen though-- this sweater I bought has some green undertones. All I need now is grey booties.

Loving the examples and suggestions here as I am realizing I have an EF chartreuse sweater tunic that I was *this close* to decluttering, which may work brilliantly.

Overall, navy / inky blue is my favorite with olive!

And yes leopard works but this season this is my "leopard" instead---

Cobalt! I often do a travel capsule of olive, black and cobalt, with the finds I've shown.

Olive is one of my core colors. I love it with black, cobalt, tobacco, denim, white+tomato red (one of Angie's summer outfits from years ago), light blue or violet. Olive oxfords have been a very useful shoe too.

ETA: olive +leopard or cheetah can look good too, if the pieces aren't too safari styled.

Olive pants ( or anything for that matter ) are a staple for me 12 months a year - and I wear them with pretty much anything and everything color-wise. The only pairing I don't care for personally is olive and ivory/sand/taupe ..that type of shade. It feels too dead-looking on/to me. Perhaps adding a third piece with some colour and depth would alleviate that though. My favourite pairing is navy/olive - it looks luxe and rich to my eye. Cobalt and olive or turquoise and olive is great in summer. And I respectfully disagree with binkie regarding orange and rust. I LOVE it with a dusty olive as long as there is a third piece with other colour (like teal or a print of all of the above). One of my favourite outfits was a dusty khaki olive field jacket, a pumpkin orange cashmere sweater, jeans, orange leather gloves, khaki and dull orange leather wedge (this was a few years ago - lol) sneakers, and a printed Etro scarf in khaki, orange , teal and black paisley. I felt like a million bucks in that grouping and might just have to get a new orange sweater now to keep the spirit going!

Well, I don't think it is complicated :-)

It's one of my "magic" colors so guess I am biased.

Agreeing with the options offered above - especially olive with following combinations:

white and black (say a white blouse with a cropped chunky black sweater or tailored black jacket...mmm velvet!!)

juicy berry tones, cordovan.

white and navy (or royal blue)

blush and black (or navy)

lumberjack plaids

substitute cream/ivory for white in the above

always works with any shade of denim.

I don't see it with yellows or oranges or rusts - not my personal preference. Seems too forced "autumn" maybe. Again, a personal preference. Maybe brown, but I'd prefer the brown item to have a really distinctive texture so you get some dimension in the tones and not a blah expanse of it.

I laid out some things that I like to wear with my olive pants (not pictured, because I'm wearing them today). This isn't EVERYTHING, but I think it's a pretty good representation. I want to add more pink things next year.

Also, the colors are slightly brighter in the picture. The greens in the knit scarf don't clash with the olive at all.

I like olive but it is not my best colour. I think it matches well with most colours except maybe other greens or mid shade browns. That can work but would be harder. I also think light blue and navy work, but maybe not peacock blue.

I do get confused with olive and khaki - but some are more grey, some more brown and some more green. Some are darker. As with a grey the undertone does seem to affect pairings.

I've been asking myself this very question, and your post inspired me to go into my closet and figure it out for myself. Alas, I'm 100 miles from my closet, so that will have to wait. But the olive capsule I brought with me has beige, tan, gold, orange and blush.

I think lot of us are in the same boat, with a lot of new olive garments that are not yet integrated into our wardrobes. I would love to see WIWs for everybody's olive items.

I think so far I've liked a nice deep rust with it best!

I also quite like gray with it (not pearl but more of a lighter mid gray). I'm not a big heather gray fan except when it's charcoal, but it can work nicely with a solid olive. Golds and mustards, yes. Oranges and blues.

very appropriate post for me..i am trying to put together a small travel capsule featuring brighter olive cargos and darker olive narrow leg ankle pants as my two basic bottoms. have a light weight cobalt sweater, a long sleeve and a short sleeve navy t, a white t, and am trying to figure out another nice top -also a gold jacket and my dark olive bomber as casual jackets. Temps will be from 60's to 80's, I think.

Elpgal, as I mentioned in today's post, I combine olive with:

black, all shades of white, pearl grey (as accents only), ink blue, navy chambray, blue denim, citron, chartreuse, olive, gold, Bordeaux, toffee, tomato red, orange and turquoise.

My fall back is black or navy, but I plan to use my burnt orange sweater, ivory ruffle top as well as navy and black. I have not found a pattern that includes olive that I like yet, but a striped tee will probably be tried in the capsule. Olive is quite neutral, so I can't think of anything that would not work...possibly emerald green.
ETA: I like Angie's idea of the polka dot shirt and floral shoes!
