I'm really excited because I just got my parents tickets to see a staged version of Amadeus. I saw it a few days ago (will be accompanying them this time, too) and the production was incredible. My Dad is an amateur classical musician and I know they will really love this. My gifts are not always that interesting (though appreciated, I believe), so I'm very happy and looking forward to the show! It also covers me for Father's Day as well as getting to enjoy their company. They live about three hours away, and only during the summer months.

I don't know. DH's mum will probably have some suggestions ready, but my Mum is so hard to buy anything for I don't think I even gave her anything for Christmas. And Mum's birthday is in May too, so a double whammy. I often give her a recent quality book (booker prize nominee etc)

The last couple of years my sons have taken me to the garden centre and let me pick out a rosé bush, which they then pay for.

Last year I got my mother a raspberry leather purse and co- ordinating scarf in raspberry, tan, and white. It had an unusual Pom-Pom fringe. I have had success with jewellery finds at an antique store as well. Another time a year of monthly pedicures.

I love giving orchids. It lasts longer than a cut bouquet AND super easy maintenance. Will rebloom easily.

Hubs and i give my parents a big present once a year, usually a cruise. O/w phone calls and visits (they live in the next state).

This year, neither is well enough to travel, so mom's present is a gucci bag she has been lusting over, on her birthday. Still mulling dad's.

This is a tough question and I'll be watching this post for ideas! My mom is 73 and will be going in for hip replacement surgery on May 2nd. I will be there in the hospital with her and at her home for her recovery, but times like this remind a person that our moms will not be around forever. I'd really like to get her something meaningful this year, but I am at a loss for ideas. We normally go out for brunch with my DH and children (I also suspect my mum of liking DH more than me!), but I am not sure she will be up to it this year, so the gift is even more important than usual.

For my mom and MIL, we have them both over for brunch (they like homemade brunch better than going out). We then give them each a hanging flower basket. My mom's and sister's birthday are also in May as is my nieces, so a full month!

For my aunt and Grandma, we usually send them pictures on DD and a card.

These are great ideas - thanks for sharing. Love those gorgeous works of art Deb - really neat!

JulieinMI- I remember those Mrs. Meyers Clean Day products - I was buying them myself for a time (in the basil or lemon/verbena). Interesting that they now come in radish scent too...

A Keurig - hadn't thought of that. Mom loves her gourmet coffee.

Lyn - the handmade card idea sounds wonderful - I might try it!
What a cute reply that really made me smile Diana I already gave my Mom a son-in-law back in 2004. Mom adores my husband, so much so that I think she likes him more than me!

I bet your grandma, Moms, brothers and sisters and their spouses are just *delighted* about your upcoming wedding. Best Mother's Day present ever to be in the midst of such a wonderful life-changing event.

I was just curious to know what YLF'ers might be getting for their Mom(s) and grandmothers this year for Mother's Day.

This year, Mother's Day falls the Sunday before I meet up with my Mom in San Diego less than a week later, so I'm thinking flowers might not be all that. At the same time, there's no way I'd miss sending my Mom something nice for Mother's Day. To make things even more interesting, I also have my Dad's ex-girlfriend's birthday in there too (May 10th). I know this sounds weird, but she was with my Dad for years and years - and even though they split up a long time ago - she was so extremely good to me (a wonderful person who made me feel included and totally loved). I always send her something for her birthday, for Christmas and the like. As far as I'm concerned, she's family too.

I have three people to buy for this year - my own Mom, who I'll be meeting up with less than a week later in San Diego, my Dad's ex-girlfriend who's birthday is on May 10th, plus my Grandma, who is 97. I'm making it a point to visit Vancouver later this year for my Grandma's 98th birthday in October - but for now, it's Mother's Day and I won't be there, so wondering what to send.

If you can't be there, what do you normally send? I've done the chocolates and flowers thing a few times already, and can always do this again, but I was hoping to come up with something a little bit different this year.

What are you sending your Mom, substitute Moms, step-Moms, Grandmas, MIL's and so on?
