April,I have read the new Lucky book.Like the others they made it is great on pictures(and some fabulous clothes, wow).I think it is best for people who know a particular style they want to emulate because this gives you the basics towards putting that style together. But it doesn't speak towards body type at all. I found it a fun read but not really that useful regarding developing your OWN style, wardrobe planning, body type etc.

Kendall Farr's book for women coming into middle age, Style Evolution, is also very good.

I find books with photographs more helpful than those with drawings, but I think the photos must begin to look dated within a couple of years, so I can understand using drawings instead.

What about the newer Lucky book: "The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style." Does anyone have a review of that one?

I would not consider this a must-read, but I am really enjoying a new book by Amanda Brooks, "I Love Your Style." The photographs are to die for - Cher, Ali MacGraw, Twiggy, Stella Tennant, Bianca Jagger, Sofia Coppola. It's fab.

What kind of fashion advice are you looking for?

I second Kendal Farr's book. I just picked it up recently and it's packed with good information.

Without a doubt, my number 1 book ever(and I have read them ALL) is the Pocket Stylist by Kendall Farr. It was the first book to get my shape down right, and helped me figure out what looked best.Plus it has sections on wardrobe necessities, high and low end versions of the same clothing, information on tailoring etc.The end sections on jewelry, hair etc are less substantial but that wasn't why I bought the book anyway so I didn't mind.It is the best out there.I bought it about three years ago, have read it cover to cover and still refer back to it many times.

I have heard the Budget Fashionista is very good but I have not read the book.I do follow her website though.

I have found the Lucky books pretty and with some good information, but not regarding suiting to body type etc. Alot of the celebrity stylist books focus on one aspect or another, i.e body type like Randolph Duke's book, or clothing without regard to body type, lifestyle or budget(who can buy high end designer wear these days? Please!).

Angie has some book recommendations and reviews in the blog. I think there is a tag for it.

I read Stacy and Cliinton's book and wouldn't really consider it a "must read," but it is very thorough and there is no doubt that most of the outfits look very sharp, but the style is unmistakably modern classic and sophisticated, which is not for everyone (certainly not for me). They break down body types by shape and height (petite, regular, and tall), and have models for each type, which is nice. I don't really care much for their advice now, but it's a worthwhile read if you're just starting out.

Oh, Stacy wears these awful ankle length pants throughout the entire book, which will probably give Angie an apoplexy and might make you question her credibility

I've read a lot of fashion books (Does This Make Me Look Fat, What You Wear Can Change Your Life, The Lucky Style Manual, etc.). None of them really give the advice I want. (Or maybe I just don't understand the advice.)

Is there a fashion book that you consider to be a must-read? Why?
