I don't mind answering your question at all.

I lost the weight with prayer, Bible verses, and intuitive eating. I found a book called "Thin Within" by Judy Halliday and that was the major turning point for me: learning to eat when I'm hungry and stop at an appropriate level of satisfaction. There is also a very good book called "The Eden Diet" and another called "Normal Eating for a Normal Weight." There are other intuitive eating/body wisdom type books, but these are the ones I found the most helpful. These books also have websites and forums.

I had to learn to listen to my body and not emotions, society, etc., when it came to eating, food, and body/weight issues. It took me about 1.5 years to lose the majority of the weight. I maintained for about 3 years before I went through some stressful situations and coped by overeating. I'm back to where I need to be with normal eating again, just waiting for my body to catch-up ;)

Hope this helps Let me know if you have more questions.

eperdu: congrats to YOU! Losing 145 pounds is a major accomplishment. I agree with you: finding what looks good post weight loss is a huge shift in thought. I truly am so glad I found YLF. I haven't felt this encouraged about clothing and style since I lost weight and could wear smaller sizes.

Puffenstuff, you are so nice I guess I never considered my shoulders before. Perhaps I need to concentrate on finding some nice blouses and flattering tops instead of bemoaning the size of my thighs. :/

Thank you for the help, girls! I have never considered pear, but I do believe you're right. Or maybe a fruity hourglass? (Some body shape humor and wit, he-he) After reading Angie's dressing suggestions, a lot of things for pear really stuck out, and a some for hourglass. The apple is a no-go for me; I'd have even less shape if I dressed that way.

Losing weight has definitely presented challenges, particularly because I still think "fat." It's rather difficult to be, as P.G. Wodehouse put it, "...6 foot tall and curvy as an Italian road." I feel big and awkward, like I stick out. I'm hoping YLF will help me overcome these negative thoughts.

In the interest of embracing my pear: I'm nearly finished sewing a linen skirt. Might post a pic in WIW forum if I can figure out how to take one of myself

Hi Flora, and welcome. I'm kinda new around here too It's difficult to tell for sure from your photos, but I'm going to make an educated guess. From the way you described yourself, perhaps a pear. Check out Angie's blog posts about body type. On the front page of the blog, it's the link in the gray box on the right side of the page.

Congrats on the weight loss. I'm in a similar situation having lost 145 pounds and not really knowing what looks good and doesn't. I can only take comfort that there are far wiser people here than me.

You are so kind, biscuitsmom!! Well, I don't know if this is any better. Hopefully it will work until I can dig out the mirror I have in storage and post a proper photo. Note: I am about 20 lbs less in that photo so I don't know if that skews the results or not.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....381463125/

I joke that I am deep and wide: wide and tall from the front, but dreadfully flat in the profile. Despite my current state of corpulence, it seems like my curves are from my bone structure - wide pelvis and shoulders - and not my flesh. I have a flat butt, full hips and thighs, and no bust. That's what I am so always so confused. I thought hourglasses had some fullness in their tushes and busts. Yes? No?

Welcome! So glad you found us.You are a beautiful woman! Its *really* hard to tell without close fitting clothes, arms at your sides and standing straight in front of the camera...Just a guess, but I would say hourglass or apple. But its too hard to say for sure...maybe you could try snapping a pic elsewhere? It should only take a moment, so I dont think you'd cause much attention to yourself doing it....

Okay...so I just found Angie and YLF. Huzzah! Am I glad! I hate to make my first post a question but...

what body type am I? Here is a link to a full-length photo.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....382014472/

I'm 5'11". I have lost 120 pounds but gained about 25 of it back, so my current picture is definitely on the chubby side (I am normally a couple sizes smaller). I am working on re-losing (ha!) the weight gain. I definitely never, ever am sure what to wear. I feel a bit, ah, voluptuous and conspicuous when I dress for my curves. I realize that the tunic shirt I am wearing in the photo is probably not flattering to my body type at all. :/ It was the best photo I could find (No full length mirror in the house to take a new one.)
