Well I guess you have a great bag if someone wanted to but it! That's crazy, as is CL's story about her shoes!

I think the top is great and the treggings too. They have such a nice long rise and I wouldn't bother with shortening them. I like the idea of some churidar-style scrunches around the ankles!

And I hear you on shoes that are supportive enough for shopping. I have some that are like a comfortable ballet *slipper* that don't do well for extended periods of standing. Didn't we tell you you'd need an entire capsule comprised solely of shopping clothes/shoes, lol?

Funny stories! I really wonder what the woman who almost walked off with your bag was thinking? Sounds amazing that she wouldn't notice the weight of all your belongings. I have the same problem with shoes - the easy slip-on, slip-off ones frequently don't have the best support for shopping all day.

Totally relate to your trouser story... I have totally given up hope on trousers. Only thing that fits me are the CODe brand from Lifestyle...
Sigh...

I can totally relate! Now it got warm and I realised that I really lack decent warm weather clothes! I desperately need some things (sandals too!) and I just don't find anything that fits right, looks good and is decently priced. I would go back and get the top, it looks lovely!

Kiwichik, believe me, I'm laughing too. It was entirely too weird to do anything else!

Christieanne, you have yourself a deal! I wonder if you're right about the ponte thingummies... the only one I met a long time ago was rather stiffer than this jersey-ish level of stretch. And tunics I have no dearth of, so that's actually worth thinking of.

Denise, I just shouted with laughter and made my SO fall off the bed in the middle of his siesta!

I like those M&S "treggings" (never heard that term before). And you are not alone with pants fit frustration.

Funny story about your bag! The other day I was trying on shoes at TJ Maxx (it's self service) and the SA took my nude cork sandals I had momentarily removed and put them on the rack! I shot after him like a greyhound pursuing a jack rabbit and reclaimed my property.

How about this plan - I win the lottery (a big one) and then I come to India and be your personal shopper in exchange for you showing me around and teaching me about Indian food (which is still mysterious to me outside of curry and naan)? I n the meantime, go back and get that top!

I like the tregging if and only if you have tunics to wear them with. I think this is what we call ponte in the US. I have always wanted to visit a Marks and Spencer (I read too many British mysteries apparently) so we can visit there too

I know I shouldn't laugh after your trying day but some of the stories you related tickle my funny bone. Persevere with the trousers - I never find trousers to fit so always buy based on my hips and thighs and then have the waist or whatever altered.

I think the first link is the abstract floral top - which I loved.

Anyway - take care out there and see you on the shopping front line sometime soon

Went window shopping again, since my budget is capped until tomorrow. Tried on many, many shoes and several tops and a few pants. It was... weird!

Re: shoes --- CANNOT understand how the same shoes style in the same size can fit differently across pairs, but they do. Tried on one pair of Hush Puppies pumps in yellow: could not squeeze foot in without skinning myself (a la Cinderella's stepsister 1). Tried it in next size up, in navy: could not keep it on foot while walking, a la stepsister 2. Tried navy in first (smaller) size. Smooth as a glove! Wha...??!

Re: tops --- fell in love with grey abstract floral top in cotton knit, last piece on sale, marked down 30%, at M&S. Shed a few whine-y tears over not being able to buy. Might yet go back and see if I'm still in luck. Weird fact: usually wear size 12, but this was size 6; any larger, and I'd be popping right out of it! What gives? Found nothing else I liked that fit both body and budget... except a cherry-print 100% cotton cardigan in navy from Esprit. Seriously debating if it's worth purchasing (I own not a single cardigan) as a casual topper over jeans for Arctic Office. (top in question is this style, but grey in colour with white outline print: http://www.marksandspencer.com.....5/12_image)

Re: trousers --- as usual, most pants fit my booty or my waist, not both. but most frustrating, none fit my rise. EXCEPT... treggings! Am I doomed to charcoal treggings for life? These: (except in dark grey melange) http://www.marksandspencer.com.....ed-items-3 Are they any use, do you ladies suppose, in a smart casual context? (Catch is, alteration will be a B____, or I'd have to wear them scrunched at the ankle.)

Weirdest bit of all. Was trying out shoes in store that sells bags too, quite understandably. Had put on a pair and walked away to try them out --- only to come back and find the SO cuddling my bag, left on the bench, like newborn baby. Huh? Some woman browsing the bag rack behind him apparently was about to make off with it and bring it to the counter for billing! SA, waiting with him, said this was common occurrence when people walk in with new bag!!! Mine's hardly pristine, and was weighed down with books, phone, water bottle, cosmetic case, wallet, extra shopping bag and other sundries. HOW do you mistake that for new off-the-shelf?

And finally, the reason I came home with no shoes on: After all that walking, it turned out to be NOT such a smart idea to wear the old easy-on, easy-off slip-ons because they had NO support and HURT like the dickens by the time I hobbled to the car. Need to shop for shoes to go shopping in!
