Lena - we are boot twins! I got the same ones in green. :)

I've worn them with skinnies and they are very comfy and keep my feet dry and warm. I'll have to post a picture with a full outfit.

I have these in blue http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28895177/c/158.html (got them before YLF)

I've been wearing them with casual outfits and my purple parka. They are very well made, have very good traction. Also, they are very slim in the ankle, so they manage to look pretty sleek. I wear them with extra warm socks when it's cold.

I have a red trench coat but it's way too dressy for these boots. When it's pouring rain but not so cold, I wear them with a blue anorak. It's pretty casual.

I remember Angie recommended darker colored Hunters. And hounds tooth patterns.

You read me right! -40, which my husband also informs me is equal in Fahrenheit. YUCK. It's not -40 today, but it gets that way often enough around here.

Nicole, I agree that a trench would look fantastic, but I only have a fall/spring weight one.

I am so glad someone asked this because I have been thinking a pair of Wellies this winter would be so handy with all the snow, salt and slush. I can order my pair from Target and not worry about looking too dorky, hurrah!

Brendan-Mr-Physics-Man says that's the only point where they have the same value, Nicole. How interesting! :D

Anyway, if it was -40 degrees outside, I think I'd have to leave fashion by the wayside and go out bundled up like a giant, Wellie-wearing marshmallow.

The black wool pea coat sounds ideal. Do you have a winter weight trench?

Did I read your weather correctly?? NEGATIVE 40 degreed Celsius?? I did the conversion and oddly enough -40 C = -40 F

Thanks ladies! I will wear my wellies with confidence.

That link was helpful, Tanya! I might try to get something like that... it would be great to have the added warmth. It get awfully cold (-40 C) here sometimes. :-P

I like your 'coordination' ideas, Shiny! Especially the scarf one. I kind of see using the same sort of accessories that go with a "Converse outfit"... similar level of style/dress 'code'. That was actually the other thing I was wondering.

What sort of a coat works best with wellies? My main coat options are:

- Short black wool peacoat with unique neckline and back details
- Silver puffer (somehow my mind can't see this combo working, but maybe...?)
- Black and white 'gear' coat
- Long grey wool coat with hood which I use over dresses and before my puffer when the cold was utterly ridiculous - definitely an odd combo if paired with red wellies, I think

Angie, what coat would you suggest wearing to balance the wellies?

I don't think of wellies as for spring only. I will throw my wellies on any time I'm going to be walking in slush, puddles or mud. But even with ski socks on, my feet get cold so I wouldn't wear them for anything other than the purpose of keeping my feet dry (in the winter). My wellies are Target cheapies--navy blue with light blue polka-dots. Maybe a better quality pair would be warmer?

Hmmmm....does anyone have any warm wellies??

I agree with Shiny, this year I have been seeing wearing wellies in the winter alot! I did the same thing as Shiny, realized how totally practical it is! When the weather swings from 15 degrees out with knee high snow drifts, to 35 degress and 6 inches in slush all in one day! I also like it because you don't have to worry about damaging a cute pair of leather boots by walking in all the salt and gosh knows what else.

I was actually just thinking the other day I wanted to invest in a pair.

This is a great question, and I'll be interested in what others say. Lately here in Boston I have noticed women (not a lot, but enough to make me notice) wearing their wellies - the kind with funky patterns - in the snow. My first reaction was "are their feet warm?" then my second reaction was "that's actually quite practical, considering how much slush there's been."

Interestingly, only once did I do a double-take and think "that looks really tacky" - but that woman was wearing sweatpants and looked a fright overall. The other women looked stylish to me, with their skinnies tucked in and their coat or scarf or hat somehow coordinating with the boot.

For example, with red wellies you could wear a matching red scarf.

Let me know if your feet keep warm - I'm curious! Wellies may be on my list for spring this year. I've been tempted for the past year, but haven't bitten yet!

I have a pair of red Hunter wellies which are currently my one-and-only pair of tall boots. I've mentioned before my issues with finding boots, but my current status is simply that I've spent my 'big ticket winter item' budget for now. Buying a new pair just isn't an option this season, for various reasons - next winter it shouldn't be a problem and I will search for the perfect winter boot.

My question is this - when there is knee-deep snow on the ground, would it look ridiculous if I stuck two pairs of wool socks on and slipped into my wellies? Would they look odd with a winter coat? In a way I can see it looking fab and funky, but I don't want to walk down the street and have people think I'm loony for mistaking the seasons! I just wouldn't mind some waterproof benefits when I'm taking my daughter on walks, etc!
