I thrift a lot so I'm not surprised to find the odd tissue or feminine product in the pocket of a handbag. I once bought a jacket that had a Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in the pocket. I rubbed a little on my hand to see how sheer it was and I really thought I might wear something like that. Strangely enough, that's what introduced me to the brand, and I went out and bought one for myself!

I met one of my best friends through a note she left in a library book! It was a Dave Ramsey book, Financial Peace. She and her DH were starting up an accountability group and the note in the book had their phone number. I called them, joined the group and we got to be great friends

ETA: note to self: it's DR. Diana and DR. Velma to you!

I've heard that about disses, Diana! (Fellow Ph.D. here.) Funny! I'm pretty sure my dissertation is cooling its heels on the shelf unread . . .

The only thing I've found in a thrifted garment's pockets was a handwritten note reminding the former owner to take her dog to the vet. I like stories. not thrilled about the idea of syringes!

The strangest thing I've found was an appointment reminder card in a wallet I bought at a consignment store. I found about $2 in change in a purse as well.

I don't think I've ever found anything; I think it would freak me out! I don't thrift though so that probably reduces the chances a lot.

Velma, the $10 bill reminds me of how some people say you should put a $20 bill into the library copy of your PhD thesis and come back 20 years later to see if anyone has taken it (i.e. if anyone has actually read it in the last 20 years!). They are not kept on site so you have to request them, so starving grad students can't just go through all of the theses in search of cash! I did not do it with mine though. Too cheap, LOL.

I gave some plaid shirts from the late 70s to Goodwill. I had to --I've been carrying them around too long. I left notes in their pockets stating the year they were and when they were originally bought just so someone would know they are "vintage"--weird I know. Prob more like I was worried about where they'd end up--I'd carried them around so long they were like family!

I bought a purse that had a used lipgloss in pocket - kind of gross but the rest of inside was fine.

Jumping off from Krishnidoux's distressing post about syringes in pockets in retail stores in Quebec: What's the strangest thing you've found in clothes you've purchased at thrift stores, retail stores, or on ebay?

I'll start. I found an OB tampon (unused!) in the pocket of a thrift store jean jacket; nice jacket! I bought it and wear it all the time. After I purchased a pair of jeans at a retail store, I found a $10 bill folded up very small and tucked into the watch pocket; I still haven't figured that out. I suppose they were returns, perhaps worn, so I appreciated the "refund"!
