Gosh, somehow I’m never heard of this author but after reading the descriptions of this book and “Chemistry” on Goodreads, I’ve addded both to my want to read list.

I listened to it.early last year and enjoyed it but I confess I don't remember much, so that is not much help! I found it funny. I know -- the portrayals of Joan's colleagues and their projections onto her interested me. Ditto the brother and his wife, and the interfering neighbour. And I found it sad (as her unit and the hospital is overcome by the pandemic). She's a very unusual fictional character. Difficult to pin down.

I haven't read Chemistry, so can't comment on that.

Anyone read either of Wang's books? I'm going to review Joan is Okay for a book club this week. I'm amazed at the differences in opinion of so many of the online reviews I've read.

In an effort to understand why, I also just read Chemistry, which I found more difficult. Reviewers call Wang's style "spare" and "sparse." I agree with that.

Joining this book club has opened a different world of books to me. Usually I read mysteries or non-fiction.

I wonder if anyone else here has an opinion on Joan to share with me.
