We were able to work out a decent schedule for my gym times, and I have changed my calorie range a little bit. I think that it must be better, since I lost three pounds overnight! (granted, those were all alcohol/sodium bloating from the weekend) I did some Yoga yesterday morning and the kids sort of joined me. I'm thinking that might be a nice way to start our days.

Khris, I hope you and your family can work out something because I don't think a 4:30 wake-up is sustainable in the long term - and you are in this for the long haul.

I am finding it hard enough to get up at 6am 2 or 3 times a week and do usually have a compensating small nap in the pm ( but I was doing that anyway, prior to starting exercising again)
.
The last 2 morning have been a little frustrating as DH has planned to get up at 6am to go to work early (meaning I couldn't go out), but he ended up hitting the snooze button and by the time he gets up I could have gone out for my run after all. (In his defense, he is really not a morning person and has been very busy and also not feeling very well)l

This is a really timely post. Just yesterday someone asked me if I was pregnant. I have been expecting it (not a baby!) for a while since most of my weight gain is in my stomach but it did help wake me up. I have had several physical issues lately which have made it hard to work out. Today, though I was motivated enough to go to the gym and do a light workout. I told myself, I need to start slow because of my health but at least I can do something.

Thanks Anne- she is finally starting to feel better. I was able to get to my yoga and zumba classes last night and that was really nice. I think that this weekend, the family needs to sit down and reevaluate and re-write our schedules. I don't know how we're going to make things work, but there has to be a better way. The last two days I have had to take a nap just to get through the day. I don't mean a half hour cat nap, I mean 2 hours of dead asleep in the afternoon. If that is what getting up at 4:30 to get to the gym does, then I can't do it anymore. It's so frustrating to be stuck halfway to my goal.

Sorry to hear about the plateau Khris. Having sick kids (and being sick yourself) does just upset plans doesn't it. She your daughter any better today?
I am sure some of our fitness fiends hear can give you some ideas about how best to utilise the limited workout time you have so you feel like you'd worked hard.

I think I need to join the weight loss group. Despite getting back into exercise (2 or 3 jog/walk a week and some weights) I am over my comfortable range and I know my shocking eating is entirely to blame ( I usually lose weight without really trying when running) . I ate an entire lemon meringue pie last week and this week, huge amounts of my favorite ginger oatmeal slice.

I've only worked out 3 times since I came back from Europe and I feel so sluggish. First I was battling jetlag and then everyone got sick (sequentially though). This week has been a busy one for me with school so I only made it out on Monday. I hope to get back into it next week. I guess the good thing about having the flu was that I didn't eat very much!! I haven't weighed myself but I feel my weight's about the same though I can tell the lack of exercise has had an impact on how toned I look (haven't been to pilates since August and my belly protrudes so much more!).

Yeah, back when I was thinner and active I used Fitday.com and occasionally Sparkpeople. It is much easier logging online. Thanks for the reminder!

I almost feel like until I weigh myself and face the reality that I won't be motivated. But... I'm also scared to death to see the reality. Not sure which way is best. I think most weight loss "experts" say that you have to fess up to reality and weigh yourself in order to be successful at weight loss. Who knows. Maybe when I find a job and have more money I'll join Weight Watchers or something.

I've lost nearly 40lbs since May, have another 40 to go before I'm at goal. It hasn't been easy, but I've stuck to tracking my calories and making better choices. Finally I'm starting to be fuller with less food. The most amazing part though is exercise. I never thought I'd like it but if I go a day without I feel out of sorts. Keep at it ladies... remember that it doesn't take motivation. Motivation is fickle as it comes and goes. All it takes is committment!

Marianna- that's great! That really is the first step. I log my calories online, because that's just easier for me. http://www.sparkpeople.com has a free calorie counter that I use, but there are lots of other sites that have the same thing. When I started my weight loss, I didn't even own a scale. I think that if you want to forego weighing at first, that's ok. That's an awesome walk- I don't even go that far on the treadmill at the gym.

I've actually started thinking about what I'm putting in my mouth. That's the first step, right? I also busted out a notebook and started writing down my calories, but I only lasted two days before I got overwhelmed... when you start tracking it's incredible to see how the calories add up. I have to be strong and stick with it! I also took a 3 mile walk yesterday, and was surprised at how nice it was. I haven't weighed myself in years and am scared to death of the scale... but I know I will have to face the facts soon. I've probably gained 40 pounds in the last two years. It's going to be rough to come to terms with that but it has to be done.

Well, I am still at the same weight. So much for making it to my next mini goal this month. It's only 5 pounds away, and I am really going to try to make it in October. I didn't track my food last week (although I kind of kept a mental running count), so it's back to tracking online. Going to the gym to work out has been a real let down. I feel like I don't get enough of a workout (although I am figuring the machines out the more that I go), and I have a limited amount of time. My daughter is still sick, and I am worn out with being a human "lovey". With my recent shape change, I am having fit issues- both with items that I already own that used to fit and in trying new items. Luckily, it has cooled down a little bit and I am pretty set for clothes for the moment.
How is everyone else doing? Kristen- congrats on your run, that was awesome!
