It really is easy You will become a convert LOL

My arms/legs have always been short for the rest of my body. I think it's just the way that I'm built. I bought a pair of "short" length jeans recently, and they still hit the ground with shoes on. I'm 5 foot 5, but short in the limbs and broad through the shoulders. Not an easy combination to fit.

I'm having a hard time finding a coat, too. I got one petite one, but it's going back (too big, too expensive). I bought another one from Target (right price and style- wrong buttons and way too long sleeves), but I have one more that I am going to try on at Kohl's today. I just need to be done and find a darn coat, so I'm hoping this one works.

Chewy, I have not been on the scale since before our vacation. I am afraid to go on it! I can tell by the way my clothes fit that my weight has continued to go up and down in a crazy manner with hormonal fluctuations that seem to correspond to hot flashes. It's weird - I think a lot of it is actually just water weight, because it comes and goes. One day certain clothes will button and zip, the next day, they don't!

Frankly, I'm getting tired of fighting it. Sigh. May be time to just accept. As long as I dress for the body I have, I don't really mind how I look at this higher weight. I'm still in the healthy range, so all is good.

As for seasonal question, i don't eat more in the winter, but if I'm not careful, I can certainly fall prey to overeating between Halloween (candy), DD's birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's day! I'm off to a good start as I only had two small pieces of Halloween candy, and since we're not hosting T-day I won't have to worry about leftovers!

You've made the broth sound so easy - I'm going to try it! I know what you mean about the good broth being pricey. Luckily for me, the local health food store has a really good sale on right now. But ...normally, it gets expensive buying the broth.

Meanwhile, I notice that you're having issues with sleeves all being too long. This was and still is very much a part of my weight loss journey. It was getting so annoying that I started thinking maybe I was petite on top or something. Tried some petite sweaters at Kohl's and they did fit much better in the arms and shoulders, but the length was too short. This will be ideal in the future for looking for tops that work well with skirts. Not a priority for me right now, so I didn't buy them.

Meanwhile - here's the shocking thing - went looking at Marshall's and even Ross, in search of either a trench coat or a wool winter coat. Turns out a size small is what fits me best in the shoulders, bust, arms. It's dicey though as to whether the 'small' will fit through my midsection - some brands are ok and some truly aren't. At the same time though, a 'medium' in certain brands can sometimes work. I am having major issues with the shoulders, bust and sleeve length. This has been going on for quite awhile. Meanwhile, none of my other clothes are a size small. It was just really surprising looking at coats and realizing what's going on.

Just wanted to say that I don't think it's that your arms are short I was thinking that too, for the longest time. It's really one of those fun (not!) things about losing weight.

It is likely to stay like this until you get to goal weight. I've been dealing with this aspect for at least the last 30-40 pounds of weight loss. This is just going to be one of those things that you'll have to be picky about from here on out. Finding something that fits in the shoulders and sleeves and still fits the rest of you. For me, this is proving to be quite the challenge. I think it's just a matter of getting the last of the weight off, though.

Nothing wrong with your arms Khris - this is just one of the more frustrating aspects of finding clothes that fit well as you're losing weight.

Still working my way through 'Coat Conundrum' over here too

queenie- burning more calories trying to stay warm makes a lot of sense to me.

vc- if you have a crock pot broth is *very* easy to make. I just toss a bunch of roughly cut veggies in the pot (anything fresh that is starting to go bad is great for this- even salad, but I also used canned or frozen sometimes), cover with water and cook on high for four hours. You can season it, but if you use anything canned you don't need salt. I strain it, let it cool and then put it in small ziploc freezer bags on a baking tray in the freezer until they are solid, then put all the little baggies into a bigger bag in the freezer. When I want some, I break it up inside the bag by hitting it on the counter, and pop it into whatever I'm making. I just got tired of spending $3/box on low sodium broth, so I tried out making my own.

I wanted to do some more cooking today, but I am running out of room in the freezer! LOL

I'm hoping to get to the gym tonight. I havern't been to this class for several weeks.

I also crave different kinds of foods at this time of year - and I'm enjoying roasted vegetables with my dinners. Spring and summer is more 'salad weather' somehow, but I am trying *hard* to keep my lunchtime salads in. I swear, there is something magical about a great big salad at lunch that makes the whole thing work somehow.

I'm planning on making a bunch of roasted chicken breasts tomorrow night, but the best part is that I'll have enough leftovers to make soup. No, I'm not such a great cook that I can come up with really good soup from homemade broth or anything, but I do roast a whole bunch of chicken breasts - some for dinner, and the rest gets put into the fridge.

The next day, I'll make soup. Like I said - not 'homemade' broth or anything, but it's easy to sautee up some celery, carrots, onions and some garlic - throw in some chopped up leftover chicken, and some decent store-bought broth (the Pacific brand is very good). Add some canned tomatoes - I'm partial to the Muir Glen Organic "Fire Roasted" canned tomatoes (excellent!), some curry powder and even some dijon mustard. Sounds weird, but what I end up with is a really nice 'zingy' winter-y soup that is just excellent at this time of year.

In the meantime - thank you so much for the encouragement Angie - it means a lot, and I cannot wait to get to goal Super excited, making my lists and checking them twice. I'm *so glad* I found this forum.

Great that you’re on target, Khris. Well done! Wow. I thought I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, but I’m waving to you!

VC, you sound like you’re on target too. Wooohooo!

Queenie, those theories are food for thought (pun intended).

In Winter, I up my quantity of hot drinks per day (but I drink lots of hot drinks in Summer too!) I do not find that I am more hungry in colder weather. My appetite stays just the same, but I grave different types of foods.

I think I just need to get and stay consistent! I managed to drop four pounds last week, and then put them back on. Was doing ok...had beaten those pounds mostly back down again by yesterday - but then that 'time' showed up. Back up one and a half pounds. Geesh!

Meanwhile, I wanted to say that this forum - YLF - is probably *the* most motivating thing ever in terms of pushing me along to just get to goal already. I have a wishlist on the Nordstrom website that's about four pages long, but I'm not going to start buying stuff like crazy right now.

I'm so tired of 'temporary' clothes and tired of not having any clothes.

Had homemade salmon patties for breakfast, and will be sure to get my lunchtime salad in today. For some reason, when I make sure I get my salad in at lunch - I lose weight better. These are my 'everything but the kitchen sink' salads. I keep skipping these lately, and I think this is a big part of the problem in terms of getting this thing going again.

Glad you posted this thread Khris - it helps. It reminds me to keep going.

there are alot of theories- one is that when our body temp drops we feel hungrier, one is that less daylight makes us want to eat more. I wonder if our bodies burn more calories trying to stay warm. I think also there are just so many more food related activities and holidays. It's tough! You are doing great though, just keep up with a half to a pound a week and you'll do great!

It's time to check in ands see how everyone is doing....

I'm ok- I'm down a pound from last week. As the weather is starting to turn colder (at night and in the morning anyway), I am already feeling it too much and feeling hungry all the time. I decided that means I am not eating enough, and so I am bumping up my calorie range again. I think it's working. I am down a pound from last week, and I can see some tops getting looser. It's actually been quite a while since I had that happen, so it's nice. I have not been able to get to the gym as much as I want, and I have been bad about getting the kids to do Yoga with me in the mornings, too. I feel like my life revolves around food so much of the time (yesterday I went grocery shopping, and made waffles, vegetable broth, rice crispy treats, filling for meat pies, and a pot of beans besides my normal cooking, and today I will be spending in the kitchen as well) that it is natural to be always eating. Does anyone else find that they have to eat a lot more in the winter?
