Firecracker (Sharan) - Indeed, the second shorts outfit does work well for the blog post, you have a great eye!

Jenni NZ - You identified why you're jacket isn't a workhorse, which is excellent! If it still gives you joy, even though it's taking time to get the CPW down, I'd continue to keep it and enjoy the moments when you do wear it. Personally, I've accepted that some of the items in my wardrobe will always have a higher CPW for a variety of reasons. As long as I still like it and get joy wearing it, the item works with my style preferences, and I have room to store it, then I'm okay with some items that are only worn once or twice in a season. You're embroidered summer jacket sounds like a great example of this strategy!

And thanks for the kind words. I definably enjoy sporting shorts when it's hot outside!

That’s a wonderful answer Lisa and I will think about it more over time. Kkards did reply on one of my threads that she thinks about CPW as more of an average or an overall than per item as I do. I aim to get CPW down on most individual items, and if it isn’t coming down then you are correct, it’s because there is something “off” about the item, and that’s generally something I didn’t realise when I bought it.
A good example would be my beautiful embroidered summer jacket. It cost $200 in late 2021 so nearly 4 years ago now. I thought I would wear it “all the time” because I love it. I found it to be limited because I didn’t like most tops underneath it due to competing necklines. I only like it with tanks or camisoles. So it has only had 23 wears in 4 years, over $8 per wear. I’m still reluctant to edit it though because so pretty!
I will bear your thoughts in mind.
Hope this has not derailed your thread too much and I agree you make a fab Queen Shorts!

Jenni NZ - You are correct. If I had an $80 item and only wore it twice the CPW would be $40. I might edit the item despite the CPW only half the price.

If an item is sitting in my closet for a while, the CPW is not going down, and it’s not a special occasion item (beach wear, formal wear etc) that takes a long time to get a low CPW, I’ll consider it during a closet edit.

Items that are good for everyday use but have a high CPW because they are not worn often are a signal to me that there’s something off about the item. Could be the fit, the color, I have something similar I like more, not fitting into my current style, etc. Many times removing the item ends up being a relief because I’m able to make room for something else that can get a low CPW.

Years ago i thought I wanted a small sized wardrobe where everything could have a low CPW. When I tried this I hated it, To get a low CPW fast I had to wear the same items often. I was bored and uninspired. I felt forced to keep and wear things just to get a CPW under $1. Keeping an $80 item until it’s worn 80 times for a $1 is not fun if you realize along the way you don’t love the item. Now I accept that some pieces in my wardrobe may be edited at a higher CPW and that’s okay.

Combining CPW with one in/one out makes me think harder about new additions. If I do a big wardrobe refresh many items will have a high CPW because they are new. Then I usually pause for that capsule. If I try to add more I’d be editing a lot of high CPW items. That’s not my goal. I prefer to edit low CPW items.

But if I did a big refresh and an item does not have a CPW going down, but the rest of the new items do, it’s a sign that the straggler item may not be working in my wardrobe and should be considered during a editing session.

I hope this answered your questions.

Oh thanks for answering. It’s great to have a sister to swap with. Interesting idea about getting the CPW down so that it feels like it’s half the price. So if it was $80 you’d want to wear it enough that it felt like $40? If you wore it 20 times it would be $4 per wear? Not sure I quite get what you mean. I think my main aim is still $5 or under but I have been choosing so well on many items that a large number are under $1. I like variety also but don’t like editing much! So I have to watch my wardrobe doesn’t creep up in numbers too much

Jenni NZ - *high five for tracking CPW* I've tracked CPW for years, but I've never really settled on a specific number to aim for. I use CPW mostly to help me edit clothes. I have a large sized wardrobe that I turn over fairly often because 1) I like variety, 2) I have a sister that I can swap items with, 3) I try to be mindful of 1 in /1 out, 4) I enjoy dressing seasonally with both materials and colors, and 5) I will purchase higher priced items when budget allows (for example premium denim). All of these factors lead me to edit things with CPW's often higher than $1.

My preference is for the CPW to be at least half the original purchase price before editing. Of course, that doesn't always happen for all the reasons stated above. I am always delighted when CPW falls under $1, but I'm not going to keep something and force myself to wear it just because I want to get the CPW lower. I'd rather edit the item that's not in use so it goes to a new home where it will get more love.

Wonderful score! The shoes look barely worn, and what a great match!
I look at CPW too, in 2017 when I started aiming for #30 wears I thought I would try to get $5 or under for items. Now that I choose much better (mostly) I have one third of my approx 150-piece wardrobe at under $1. It’s often been when there has been a good original price, frequently that means a sale though not always. I admit that shoes can be more difficult to get under $1 though most are under $5. Those that are not are either mostly older, 2017 or older, some of the heels are too high really so infrequently worn. And of course any brand new shoes this year, of which there are now 4 pairs, I haven’t posted them yet except my red boots earlier this year.
You only need to wear these twice to get $1 per wear! I’m interested in what CPW you aim for if you’re willing to share but it could be a bit too personal so no worries if not! Cheers.

Angie - Thanks for the kind words! There were a number of years that I never wore shorts but the past few years I've been really enjoying them. It's always interesting to me how one's fashion preferences can change over time.

*happily collects killer rating* The print on this Rails blouse makes it quite versatile! And yes, the pumps were too good to pass up. :)

Jaime - These pumps are certainly not going to be good for all day walking, but they are ideal for sitting in meetings days for work. My business capsule is an area where I really don't want to spend a lot of money of shoes, because I won't wear high heeled pumps often enough to get a low CPW on them. These were too good to pass up. :)

Runcarla - *high five for second hand* It's always nice to find something "new" at a fair price. :)
