You look great in the sweaters Pil & I hear what the others are saying about finding the right ones but I've found that I never feel as good in a knit as I do in a jacket. With that in mind I bought a jacket style knit (biker jacket shape) for our winter. It was my go to piece at home when a jacket just won't work It also felt great under my coats on the couple of really cold days we had.

Pil, I find I can wear a silk button up shirt just fine under a sweater -- I guess because the silk collapses in, as it were, whereas a stiffer cotton shirt doesn't. And the cotton ones feel bunchy -- or come untucked, or just somehow irritate me. As I say, I'll do it now and again (especially on days when I'm basically doing a lot of standing and walking outdoors) but if I'm going to be sitting and then standing I know it will be an endless cycle of adjustments, and I dislike that.

I am sure those boots will be great in poor weather. They were a terrific purchase!

Aida, I've missed your helpful comments on my threads! The patterned sweater idea makes a lot of sense, especially if it helps disguise belly rolls.
And that color in 5 is what I've been thinking might be close to my equivalent of Suz's taupe.

I think you had a great week Pil! I am really digging #1, 2, and 6. Even though you cut off your pretty face I have a feeling that the sweater in #5 is beautiful with your coloring. I have the same feeling as Suz about perhaps not wanting to layer with your sweaters; I don't like to do that either, even jackets over the top don't usually feel right to me. If that is the case, then you should probably look for sweaters that have more interest than a plain solid knit you know? I'm actually working on replacing some of my plain solid sweaters with more fun versions myself.

@Word Lily, thanks!

@Suz, you and Sveta *are* my La Canadienne boot midwives! I am really tickled with these, they have kind of a mod look to me even though they are very traditional. I think it's the patent leather. I haven't worn them in bad weather yet but am not complaining You're on to something with the layering perspective and also your comment about new standards. Maybe I'm leaning toward more modern than traditional.

When you wear silk under a sweater, are you talking about a thermal-ish silk top?

@E, you have a point about the neckline. I've been trying to decide on a most flattering neckline. I think the rounded neckline has to have some scoop and can't be a crew because of my short and droopy neck.

@Jewell, thanks! I'm kind of surprised at the props #6 is getting but it pleases me very much. It's really comfortable and warm and I L.o.v.e. my python boots!

Lovin' #6 with the semi tuck! I was wondering the same thing as Suz- might it have something to do with layering? because the styling is fine.

Like Suz I love #1. It has a similar feel to the dress in 8 (sorry for the sad occasion) that looks so good. :) I don't find the belt and shoes jarring in #6, and I enjoy the layering in #5. I really like the rounded necklines on you, more than the shallow v necks (comparing the sweaters, not the shirt in #2). Maybe that's a factor?

I feel like the midwife for those fab La Canadienne boots, Pil. ;)

I love #1. So sleek and modern. #2 is also fab! Super jealous of your belt in #6 and that's a great outfit! It's also great to see the dress come out (albeit for a sad occasion.) And the other outfits are all completely fine -- just not up to your new standards.

I'm wondering if it is a "look" vs. "feel" thing with some of these sweaters. I wonder if you just don't like layering with them. The ones worn on their own seem to net you a higher happiness factor.

I know that for myself, I rarely layer a sweater over a crisp shirt any more. Once in a while I will (if I need the layer for warmth and I want the contrast of the shirt's colour) but typically I end up feeling "bunchy" in this combination. I'm more likely to layer with a silk shirt under, or a jacket over. What do you think of that idea?

Maybe a little better than last week, but I have to say I'm still not thrilled. I love the feel and comfort of sweaters but I don't find them to be flattering on me. Maybe I'm just buying the wrong ones?

1. Out to breakfast last Friday. Cable & Gauge knit top, NYDJ jeans and La Canadienne patent boots. Liked this a lot.
2. Lunch with my son. Christian Sirian jacket from Sam's Club, Dana Buchman blouse from Kohl's, black ponte knit 'jeans', fossil belt, Petty python print booties. Happy with this too.
3. Sunday afternoon raking leaves. Old Jaclyn Smith cashmere sweater, Cuddl Duds tee, old jeans.
4. Monday out and about. Halogen sweater, JCP tee, Sears jeans, Naot shoes.
5. Tuesday while watching our nephew empty out a storage unit of furniture left from my mother in law who died two years ago. Now we're down to one more unit of stuff. Loft sweater, Coldwater Creek tee, NYDJ jeans, Michael Kors belt, La Canadienne boots again.
6. Wednesday grocery shopping for ingredients to make food for my friend's family (for the funeral I attended today). Eddie Bauer jeans, LE cashmere sweater, MK belt and python Pettys again. Fine with this, just not sure if the white belt and boots are too jarring.
7. Thursday for funeral visitation. I know it looks casual, but it was totally appropriate. Old cashmere sweater from TJ Maxx, AT blouse, same black ponte jeans from #2 and La Canadienne boots again.
8. Friday for the funeral. New black dress (can't remember brand) and Ara booties. Also a picture with the Brooks Brothers trench.

Am I just picking the wrong sweaters, or is it the styling? Or both? Criticisms? Suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!
