These look incredibly dated and outmoded in many ways - which means they are for the 20 year olds, not women like me. They look so deliberately sexy that it's almost comical. I cannot even imagine how uncomfortable these would be, plus who do they work on other than a very singular body type? Whatever - to each his own, etc.

I see about the area right there.
Viva, Good on your daughter to try out weightlifting. I've noticed the trend towards a more healthy, muscular physique. Hopefully more teens will like this type of look and it will filter upwards.

For me, smittie, the only issue is that they look SO uncomfortable RIGHT THERE, if you know what I mean. I'm definitely not jumping on this, but then again, this feels like a young trend to me. (Also, in addition to being old, I have neither the waist nor the butt needed for these pants.)

I actually really like that there is a jeans trend that is all about the butt -- how nice for curvy women to be on the cutting edge here. Young women with waists and hips and butts now can show them off if they want to (but too bad they might have to be pinching their way through the day!).

It's interesting. I have a 20-year-old daughter who is petite but curvy. She's been a yoga devotee for several years and she's not really a fashionista. During the past 6 months she has gotten really into weight-lifting and loves the idea of tightening her waist and building up her butt and thighs. So, if she were into trendy clothing, I bet she would love these jeans. I realize some girls may like these jeans purely because they are sexy looking, but I'm intrigued that they may also send the same message that my daughter does when she talks about her body: I am not trying to fit into a norm of skinny and undernourished. I want a strong, healthy body that has curves where it was meant to.

Oh wow --- hungry butt syndrome! I have a long back rise, and this is my big fit problem. I cannot imagine choosing it as an um .... fashion statement. And the Buzzfeed reporter's description of how it feels to wear jeans like that ... oh, yeah, been there.

Possibly I am oversensitive, but bleh.

ETA: Ok, I read the blogger's experience and they do indeed look very wedgifying and butt-enhancing :-)

Ha! I wore jeans like this in the 1980's, though in my defense mine were never quite that tight - they were more a younger woman's version of "mom jeans". And over the years, different makers have tried all sorts of different seams, rises, pocket styles and fabrics in an attempt to make "butt flattering" jeans, so these are no different. They will work for some women and not for others. The only time I really cringe is when they are tight or ill-fitting enough to create camel toe.

I remember jeans from long ago (late 70s?) that had a similar look. My mother never let my older sister wear these (!! and good on her) much less then-little me, but I actually have wondered if they'd make a comeback given the current love for curvy bottoms. Dittos jeans for your viewing amusement...

They look uncomfortably tight on the buzzfeed reporter, and yet I think she has a better body type for this look than the models Levis chose. I find it interesting they want to highlight the curve of the rear but chose pretty standard-model-issue, not-so-curvy bodies to do so... a lower rise a la Britney would probably actually make them look curvier, this cut seems to highlight straight and flat. And apparently they still think that is the cultural ideal, I don't think that is the case anymore (see: Kardashians).

Aside from looks, I find this area of "fit" very uncomfortable.
I'm long in the stride, as I grew up calling it, though maybe that's not the term, since it can be related to rise, but not exactly, and so often, even fuller-leg or fuller-seated pants are too "short" in that area, so it's not just about tight rear fit overall.
