unfumped - it is just backyard like the average suburban backyard. I think they are going to put in a small dance floor. I like your description of your ideal outfit!

I too would want to know, backyard as in an estate with slate terrace and a pavillion, or backyard like the average person, and dancing on the lawn? Because I'd be wondering what footwear I could manage and the footwear might drive the dress, instead of vice versa.

Saturday I went to an evening outdoor wedding in the countryside, by a pond, though there was a paved stone area for the reception. The outfit I would have LIKED to have worn would have been some kind of romantic RL skirt or dress with soft boots in fall colors--maybe some version of Forest Warrior Princess meets English horsey country club lady.

Sadly, I wore something else ( it did include a midi-length RL silk skirt) , but the attire amongst the wedding guests was so varied, no one noticed I was not in my dream outfit.

How exciting :)

I can't help you out with where to shop in Oz, but do hope that you and Mum get very dressy frocks. I vote a sheath for Mum and a fit and flare for you.

Hoping for some more suggestions!!

Deborah I have had a look online at Noni B and there are some good items there. Mum unfortunately does think Noni B is old ladyish! ( Mum is very fit and active, her leisure pursuits include rock climbing and ice climbing!!) She doesn't like shopping in general.

Anne watching with interest as I have a backyard wedding in March next year. I do echo Krista's suggestion of wedge heels for a garden wedding. That's the one thing I am sure of for my outfit:). I imagine something in between a sun dress and a work dress maybe something colorful but with a little structure.

Noni B is a good choice for your mum. I took my MIL there to bet an outfit for my niece's wedding. They have lovely clothes, age appropriate but not old laddish.

Krista - good thinking re sandals!

Julie - temps are a bit hard to say. Average maxs for that times of the year are about 27-29C - it could get down to 18-20 in the evening I think. Maybe with some wind.

I do like the look of the dress.

Caro - not sure of price range - I guess I am willing to put out more than I usually do, Maybe up to $150?

Lyn - will check out Noni B

Thanks all

Hi Anne, this sounds like an exciting event, and a great excuse to go shopping!
The weather will be great for an outdoor wedding too.
I would try to find something that has versatility- not too formal so you can wear it again.
For your Mum I would give Noni.B. a go- they have some lovely dressier tops, skirts and dresses for her age- group.
Back to you- I will favourite this thread and give this some more thought. I do have a Wish dress that I will be selling on EBay soon. If you like I can send you a pic- I am in Sydney till Wednesday so it wouldn't be before then.

ETA, do you think this type of shape would be flattering? I could picture you wearing a dress of this type
http://www.phase-eight.co.uk/f...../201690646

Perhaps a classic sheath dress for your Mum in a fabric which made her feel wonderful.

If it's going to be backyard wedding, I would suggest being mindful of your choice of shoes! I went to a backyard wedding a few years ago wearing heels, and I'm sure they are quite grateful for the aerating job I did on the lawn.... My heels, however, are still recovering. :)

I personally would choose a knee-length bright colored dress with a wedge sandal (previous experience dictating such a choice - see above!) and a light jacket or pashmina to wear as a wrap. Afternoon weddings allow you to be a little less formal, in my mind.

When I did my 12 in 12 resolution I gave myself an out for my brother's wedding. He has now almost set a day (as in, one of 2 dates in late nov or early Dec). So now I need to think about outfits. I am currently staying with my Mum and want her to come shopping with me too. I would love to hear your suggestions. Here are the details

It is going to be a casual backyard wedding, Afternoon evening with dancing. Outfits probably like a party. We'd like to wear dresses but are concerned about getting cold too so may need wraps/jackets.

I am 5.4 blonde, longwaisted, small busted and short legged. Mum is 5"3, brunette, rectangle pretty in shape for mid 60's age, also long waisted but great legs! She hardly ever wears dresses - even for dressy events she goes for trousers.

Please give me some suggestions!! I don't think I have ever worn a party dress!! Feel free to ask more questions! (if I don't get back to you for a while, it is only because I am in Australian and in bed asleep)
