Great. Shorten the straps (you can stitch that yourself), and wear a light coloured cardi. Think you can manage that?

It is around knee length. It has thin straps at the top which can sag a bit!

I actually prefer the pink dress to the purple outfit. It needs a light cardigan, though. How long is the dress?

The shoes are fixable for sure.

Ta Angie! If I don't manage it do you think the purple outfit (maybe with pink top) will pass muster?
I was pleasantly surprised by the hair too! But DH prefers it longer and with no fringe

We were on the way to a "pink" breakfast that day (for Breast cancer fundraising)

I think the shoes are worth keeping if the price to have them fixed is not more than a new pair of shoes. I think they are pretty for an evening dress (and sentimental). Do you think you could gue the problem area yourself? If I am seeing the problem area correctly it is that the silver on the front straps is coming unglued from the strap? If so I would get a glue that stays pliable, like contact cement, and try that. I give no gaurantees so ask someone who knows more about glue before you try it! Good luck.

Hello everyone,
Yes it will be spring - though the exact temp is quite variable!
Antje - I think perhaps I was looking for your answer - ie Get a new outfit!

The outfit does look better with a sleeveless top underneath, and I have usually worn it like that - it was way too cold the day I took the photos though. The idea to wear a fushia top is very appealing - I don't look great in grey, sadly
BTW I have worn the purple outfit quite a bit as separates - the cardi over a black maternity dress, or skirt, the skirt with a fitted black sweater or a tailored top, so the PPW isn't too high . (And the dress only cost $30 -$40)
I am not sure about shortening it because of the complicated pointed hem.
Re: the shoes - are they inherently worth keeping ( not just for the occasion)?

How long is the pink dress? Is it full length, or somewhere knee and floor length? If the latter, I could imagine it looking cute shortened, I do like the fabric for a spring wedding.
The skirt of the second outfit would need to be shortened.
Honestly (since you asked), if you have the budget and the time, I would encourage you to treat yourself to a new outfit. Both of the ones you showed are "acceptable", but if you want to feel gorgeous you could do better with an updated dress or skirt/top combo.

I personally like the pink mesh dress best, especially since you are going into spring. I think with a more spring like coverup it would be nice.

hi anne -

i agree w/ nicole that the pink dress looks a little dated. i like the second outfit minus the jacket. could you shorten the skirt to around knee length?

the shoes are nice, but they are more of an evening shoe and the skirt isn't. maybe try finding a lower-heeled black peep toe?

Hi Anne - I like the second outfit, but I think it would look better if the skirt was shortened a bit so it hit at the knee. I think a different shoe would also work better with the outfit. If you don't want to spend too much, places like Target or Payless have cute shoes that are not too expensive. Also, since it is fall you might find something cute on the sale rack at somewhere like DSW.

Hmmm...I think the first pink dress is a little dated. The purple skirt and top are cute, but I think the skirt is too long--by at least 4 or 5 inches--maybe more. Can you shorten the skirt and try a lighter colored shell under the top? Or wear a different top all together.

Is it a day wedding or a night wedding? Formal ? I'm unsure about repairing those shoes. They are very "evening" to me. I am not sure if the repair cost will be worth it.

Anne -- am I correct that you are in the southern hemisphere so are going into spring and not fall? I agree with Joy that the skirt and cardigan outfit would look good with a gray or fuchsia top rather than the black. I think it would look quite nice for a wedding with silver earring and the silver shoes. I guess whether the shoes are worth repairing depends on the price to repair vs. the price to get new shoes. If you don't wear that type of shoe very often, it might be less expensive to repair the ones you have. AJ

Anne, do you think the pink dress might feel too summery in three weeks?
I'd choose the separates, but would like to see a different top under the jacket. I think what bothers me is the black sleeve extending from under the delicate sleeve of the jacket. It may be that my eye isn't tuned into this look. Others may think differently. Do you have a fushia or med to light grey top? Maybe something silvery? and a pearl necklace?

I am going to a wedding in about 3 weeks. I have 2 outfits that I bought some years ago (to be precise 1999 and 2001!) that I could wear. Do you think either are acceptable?
1. Stretch mesh pink dress. This photo is a few years old. I am too embarrassed to take one of me now, but might be a contender if I can lose enough weight before then!
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....kdress.jpg
2 Separate ruffly cardi and skirt. The skirt has a slight bustle effect at the back and is pointed to the centre of the back (for some reason I can't upload my back view pic)
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....0_6148.jpg

3, Also my "wedding shoes" need to be repaired, which is disapointing because I have only worn them about 1/2 dozen times (over 4 years) Worth repairing?
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....0_6150.jpg
Thanks everyone
