There are lots of styles that would work IMO, I would just try to stay within the lines of airy, organic, romantic and young. nothing too polished.

That what your dress suggests to me.

#4 from zap's second set with an asymmetric chignon or even a low centered chignon would work. you have the hair length. working that front "waterfall" will need lots of hair lacquer, but is the standard hide the five-head. i had a very very similar hairstyle in the front with an updo in the back.

Diana, the picture I posted is not a pony, it is actually a very loose side braid. I'll try to find a pic. You can tuck in the ends of the "pony" portion, for when you have the veil on- ceremony I assume? - and untuck when you take the veil off.

Yes, ladies, I have a stereotypical Asian five-head and pulled back hair really accentuates it.

Thanks for all the links, lyrebirdgully! I am not really a fan of the teased, pull-back look (like Adele's in your first link), especially without bangs. I would prefer not to have bangs cut in my hair because then I have to live with them afterwards, and honestly I find bangs itchy on my forehead. I do like the Miranda Kerr sideswept look a lot though.

Angie, my mom is making the veil so it's sort of customizable. It will be a shorter length one worn at the back. I really don't want it high, huge, or face-covering. (Honestly I wasn't really keen on the idea of a veil at all, but she wanted to make one so I said yes to make her happy!) I was thinking of wearing it something like in the photos below. Do you think those veil styles would work with the sideswept, looser-front hairstyles? (Like Zap's set 1, photo 4 above).

ETA: found a photo with a loose, sideswept pony like the last photo Zap posted. I think this might be too casual/loose though for the wedding.

Your hair will also depend on the style of the veil.

Hi Diana,I note that you have a high round forehead, so that would be why pulling your hair straight back from your forehead doesn’t feel right, as that style adds extra height to your hairline and your face in general. Here are some celebs who have round faces with high foreheads, wearing some different hairstyles. First Adele with a teased pull-back. Quite a no-nonsense style.
http://0.tqn.com/d/beauty/1/0/8/W/1/110828145.jpg
I love how Adele’s face is framed and softened (compared to the previous pic) in the next pics (Oscars) with the bangs.
http://media.monstersandcritic.....769854.jpg
http://pc-uploads.s3.amazonaws.....rmance.jpg
Angelina Jolie- same idea with the bangs
http://topnews.in/files/Angelina-Jolie-1_0.jpg
Miranda Kerr–hair pulled straight back. Practical.
http://www4.pictures.zimbio.co.....W_rPKl.jpg
Miranda, no bangs, side part, hair styled in an upswept assymetric frame shading one eye, bulk of hair pushed forward over one shoulder.
http://images.contactmusic.com.....133084.jpg
At the Oscars 2013- same style.
http://media1.onsugar.com/file.....review.jpg
Miranda’s style is a bit like Zap’s pic row 2, #4, but less flat, and therefore potentially less severe, because the bulk of the hair in the front is lifted off the forehead in a curving upsweep.
Re the idea of bangs: if you don’t get bangs cut in, you really have only 2 choices for an updo or half- updo: i.e. the pull-back (Adele pic 1) or the part and side-sweep (Miranda Kerr). But shorter hair around your hairline readily softens the outline of your face and the whole look, since the shorter side pieces add volume and natural shaping, and “frame” your face. How about getting a hairdresser to trial a Miranda Kerr/ Zap#4 style, (you could use a hair ornament to secure the hair that is pushed forward across your shoulder), and if you are not happy with the look, I would suggest getting some simple bangs like Adele’s cut in. Also, maybe try adding some “pouf “to the top of your head for additional height e.g. with teasing - I suspect extra height there would suit you quite well. And a bridal professional would have no trouble getting big curls to hold.

I'm thinking that your face shape is oblong:

Side swept hair is one of the recommendations, so I like #4 in Zap's second set.

Zap, I do like #4 of the first set you posted a lot. I'm still not sure I could go that curly, but I like the idea of the low-swept side part and maybe some curls at the front. I will have to go there a few days in advance to get the marriage license anyway, so hopefully will be able to have a trial run. It will depend on the schedule though... most people seem to require a deposit ahead of time so I would be locked in to using a particular stylist by then. What I might also do is see if my own hairdresser here in Boston could do a trial or two for me to see if I like particular styles (and if my hair can handle them) and then take lots of photos so it could be recreated.

Una, some braids are probably a good idea to keep things in place.

Any other suggestions/inspiration photos? Also, any SoCal peeps have recommendations for wedding stylists? (We will be in Ventura County.)

I like all of the suggestions so far. I think the style of your dress definitely calls for something sort of wispy and loose, nothing too tight or hairsprayed (no helmets allowed). If I had to pick of the photos posted so far I like Zapotee's set 1 photo 4 or set 2 photo 1.

My hair won't hold a curl either. I had a crazy braided pile on my head in an Indian style. I think you would look great in something like #4 but incorporating some braids to keep everything from sliding around...

Yes I was going to suggest something like #4, which is something like what I did, without having bangs. I'm really, truly terrible at describing hair or finding pictures of it however! But I had a side part, with the hair brushed down and over to create "bangs' - not quite as low over the ear as in that photo. Then a partial updo in back with some curls. It was definitely not wispy, hid most of my funny hair line, and the hair was somewhat plastered down with hair spray.

i think the half part would look good. Are you traveling days in advance? I am thinking you should road test the hairstylist before hand. Some are really good with curling techniques, if you wanted to go that route. What about the last do on the first set?

Thanks, Zap! I was leaning towards getting the stylist to come to me as well, for the reasons you stated.

I love the chignon styles, but I think I need something in front to balance out my high forehead. A lot of Asian updos I see online have the front part brushed over the forehead (kind of like #4 in your second set); I wonder if that would work for me?

The lovely curly looks won't work for me - my hair will not hold a curl unless it's basically sprayed to the point of being a helmet. So I could get small bits of it to hold a curl but not the whole thing unfortunately. I could probably get waves like in #1 of your second set.

Here is my take on your do!
Back in my banquet planner days, I always recommended for the hairdresser to come to the suite. It is more relaxing. You can schedule a hair and makeup rehearsal appointment in advance.

So I have to start thinking about what kind of hairdo I want for my wedding. I am thinking probably an updo or partial updo, but am open to wearing it down as well. For those who don't know, my hair is medium length (down to about the bottom of my shoulder blades right now), thick, straight, and Asian. I have no bangs, although the front bit is cut with long angles. It's dyed sort of a dark red - I will have it redyed and trimmed right before the wedding. I will be wearing my specs and a small veil of some sort (probably low on the back of my head, I'm not planning on putting it over my face or anything).

To throw another wrench into the mix, I will not be able to use my regular hairdresser, as she is on the wrong side of the country from the wedding location!

I'm adding photos of my dress (with my hair down, you can see the length there) and a partial updo that my hairdresser did a few months back. I like this from the back but not the front - I think it's pulled back too much and I don't like how it looks wispy on my forehead. I think I'd rather have more hair loose at the front but I'm not sure this is possible without cutting bangs? The other problem with this hairstyle is that it's something my hairdresser came up with on her own so I'm not sure it's replicable?

Last photo is a half-assed attempt to see what my dress would look like with hair up. =P

ETA: Additional question: Would you recommend trying to get the stylist (for hair and makeup) to come to the hotel (or the venue, but hotel is more comfortable) to do my (and my bridesmaids' hair) or going to the salon? What did you do for your wedding?
