I went shopping today and tried on many pairs of black shoes. I decided to try for pumps or ballet flats. I ended up with the AGL shoes below, which I think may have been on sale at the NAS. I liked the pointy toe with the studs the best, but they were not as comfortable as the wedge shoes. I think it would be tempting fate to wear pointy toes two days in a row. I wish they were all patent leather instead of just the toe. I like the way they look from the front.

I'll try on the shoes with the dress tomorrow. I wore myself out--I don't have the stamina for shopping I used to have. They are very comfortable--I've been wearing them around the house. This brand had not yet attracted my attention, but I like what I saw today.

There was also a pair of just in Paul Green shoes I liked, but they were a bit too wintry and also a tiny bit too tight.

Now I've got to figure out the jewelry and bag. The first pair are mine, the second--well maybe later. If it is anything like the rehearsal last year, we'll be standing around a lot.

Thanks for everyone's input.

That giraffe dress is a stunner--what fun! I agree with Angie that some sharp black shoes would take it up even another notch, but I'm not as sure as everyone else about the length. There's nothing wrong with it, and I know longer lengths are trending, but I would be inclined to play with pinning it up anyway; an inch shorter might make a big difference.

What an awesome outfit for this wedding event! The bride and everyone else will love how charmingly your dress fits the theme. Even the giraffes in the nearby enclosure will approve, and recognize you as a kindred spirit. :)

Thanks to your input I will wear the giraffe dress confidently and just the way it is, no Spanx. It occurs that my 4 and 6 year-old grandsons are going to be tickled with the dress.

Angie: with your comment i realized I don't have a pair of black shoes other than sneakers or slip on sneakers. A few years ago my dress shoes were mainly black and then I went the opposite direction.

I'll wait to decided on the green dress with the Spanx slip. The slip is comfortable enough that I can forget about it. I'll wear it around and make certain it doesn't ride up.

Thanks for your input. I think this will be a fun wedding.

Oh, definitely wear the giraffe dress to the rehearsal! You look fab in it, and I love the length just as it is. The shapewear doesn't make a lot of difference to my eye, so I suggest only wearing it if it is comfortable and makes you feel more confident.

Are the Stuart Weitzman shoes comfortable? I've been looking for some shoes for a wedding I'll be attending, with a lower heel. I keep seeing these, but the price is putting me off. Still, if they're comfortable...

Another vote for wearing the giraffe dress to the rehearsal. I'm not sure about shortening; I think the length looks good with the heels.
Truthfully, I think photos 3 and 4 are a tad more flattering than 5-6. It may be lighting. But it makes me think you should wear the Spanx slip only if it's comfortable enough and you feel better in it.
You'll be gorgeous! Hope you have a wonderful time.

Yes! The giraffe dress is fab!! Definitely wear it to the rehearsal dinner! So fun!

I can barely tell the difference with the shapewear so if it's uncomfortable I'd skip it. I agree with Kelly that nude hose would be fresher looking than black.

Love the giraffe dress and think the length looks perfect--especially with the SWs. I'd absolutely wear that. I agree that the shaper smooths things out a bit but I'd only wear it if its comfortable. I think black hose might look kind of heavy--I like nude. Sounds like an awesome venue!

Absolutly wear that giraffe dress to the rehearsal. That would be such fun. The Spanx slip does a nice job of smoothing, I can really notice the difference at the back. I don't think you should shorten, but if you feel more comfortable.... it looks great as is. I think natural color hose is more summery.

Shoe update: Love can be painful at times. So I sent back the size 11 Stuart Weitzman shoes and now have the 10 1/2s. I love them. They are just the look I want. I added the metatarsal pad as instructed by podiatrist (haven't posted about that visit yet) and the shoes fit pretty well. I will need more arch support and will get some gel ones next week. I can't put in Footpetals to support the ball of the foot because it makes the shoe too tight over the bunion.

I am going to take a second pair of less lovely but more comfortable shoes for the dancing.

I know from experience that the first glass of champagne will erase the rest of my discomfort, but before then I have to lead the procession.

DH is going to officiate and will wear his tux. I am sticking with my green dress. Right now we are to lead the procession down the aisle. The bride's mother is wearing a short dress--probably not as short as mine, and unless something amazing turns up I plan to wear it. When we reach the podium he will take his place and I will be seated in the front row. Next comes the parents.

Yesterday I went to Nordstrom to look for some kind of body shaper. The Spanx representative was there. She said the reason Spanx always roll down or up on me is they are the wrong size. I don't believe, but after I explained that I wanted something to smooth the midsection she sold me a Spanx slip. I would prefer black, but they only had nude in my size, which she correctly guessed as an L.

The wedding will be in the Zoo in the giraffe section. The bride loves giraffes. I found this dress online and sent a photo to my D-i-l and she said I should wear it to the wedding. It is too casual, not nice enough ($55 on Last Call) and I would feel disrespectful. I do think it would be fun to wear to the rehearsal.

#1 & 2 Giraffe dress with and without Spanx, 1st with Paul Green shoes I will wear and second with beloved SWs. I can barely tell the difference.

Do you think it would be too hokey to wear the dress to the rehearsal. The bride is a bundle of energy and good times and a lot of fun. She's great.

Should I shorten it to a more flattering legnth?

#3 & 4 Kay Unger dress without Spanx slip

#5 & 6 is with. Spanx. The slip isn't uncomfortable and doesn't ride up so far.

Should I wear black or darker pantyhose?

Still working on jewelry etc.

Notice no side views. Spanx does make the belly a bit less, um, prominent.
