Thank you for your quick reply. I will probably do nothing too as we seem to be having cold but no moisture. An old pair of Le Canadiennes in grey suede have never leaked and are great for winter trips for keeping my feet warm and dry ( Gortex lined).

Well, I've done nothing!

I haven't worn them in the rain this year. Truthfully, they are pretty much worn out -- I really wore them to death last year. But I wore them this weekend again and will wear them all winter. Just not in rainy weather.

I got a pair of suede La Canadiennes this year that are amazing in the rain -- truly non-leaking. And my new Aquatalia leather boots seem great, too. I think I just went through a series of really extreme situations last year and cumulatively it was a bit more than the booties could manage.

Suz, I just found this and wondered what you ended up doing as I have acquired a couple similar pairs of suede booties since this post. They are Aquatalia and Blondo, both supposed to be weatherproof.

Sounds like your boots went through extreme circumstances, Suz. I'd be curious to hear what they say. I did read somewhere that zippers were not waterproofed, which makes you wonder how they can claim the boot is.

I have multiple pairs of Aquatalia booties, including two suede pairs. I have never added water-proofing to any of them. My oldest suede pair is black and I live in a snowy climate, with lots of salt on icy sidewalks. I have no idea how they do it, but the boots remain dry and stain free; any dirt brushes right off.

Suz- daunting weather experiences. I wonder what Aquatalia would say?

Thanks, Aquamarine - that is helpful. Perhaps if I write a diplomatic letter stressing first that the quality was fantastic (which it was). I really want to emphasize, the first few wet outings for these boots were ridiculously wet -- they got thoroughly soaked. And my feet remained bone dry. It was only after a few more such incidents that the wet came in. I don't think that equals poor quality. I think I simply asked too much of the product. Damp and light rain and the occasional puddle is one thing. The kind of wet these boots got was really outrageous. I might as well have worn them in a bath.

So...after I posted, I found the customer service emails for Aquatalia and La Canadienne. (I have a suede pair of La Canadienne barely worn last year that I have not treated with protectant.) Both companies responded tonight and both said emphatically DO NOT spray the boots with extra protectant. The suede is already treated as are the seams.

Suz, you might want to try contacting the company directly as to the issue with your boots. I am impressed with quickness of their replies.

I am considering this with the ones I got last year because they have been SOAKED so many times. On the last occasion, I did get some leaking. I think it is through the seams. So I am planning to take them to the cobbler and discuss the issue. I need them re-heeled anyway. I will report back.

I’m on my second pair of suede booties. The suede is extremely resilient. Mine are black and have seen lots of use in all kinds of weather. They must come treated with something potent to withstand the elements like they do!
I have a suede brush that I use to clean mine up.

Curious if anyone uses a protectant spray on suede Aquatalia boots/booties, even though they are already treated? Does it hurt (stain), or should I not bother? I purchased the Francas at NAS.
