Well, I do think the fashion cycle is completely haywire and things have become completely untethered. I mean, what styles are we looking at now? Spring 2015? Anybody remember what's supposed to hit the sales floors for Spring 2014?

My plan is to keep going with pine green and circus stripes (I think that was last fall, but I saw it last winter and thought it would be good for spring). I will also try the pastel/earth tone thing, if these things actually come up for sale...

First of all, I don't think bootcuts ever truly go out. They're universally flattering. They might not always be cutting edge, though.

Secondly, I doubt skinnies are going anywhere. They are super useful, and have become mainstream. (Also, they've been around for at least a decade).

Thirdly, big and flowy might be coming back, but I don't think ankle dress pants are going anywhere either! I see them everywhere. You're in the clear.

Yup, I am right there with you. When I am buying trends at the thrift store secondhand, there's proof I'm at the trailing edge of the trend. I do think trends are more permeable these days and it takes a while for them to trickle down from fashion designers and chichi brands to the brands and hometowns most of us shop/live in.

There are plenty of us like this...we formed a club! You can join, you are in good company. But Angie usually says that even trends have a longer life these days...trends become mainstream and stick around for awhile even if something new is trending. And like doubleh says, depends on where you live. My area stores are always a little behind the cutting edge.

I can't link the link for some reason, but I just saw on cnn a photo of Carolina Herrara's new collection- with slim ankle pants.

I do know what you mean- being in rural VA it's hard to keep exposed to what's coming around. I have quickly developed a dependence to this site just for that reason!

I'd call slim ankle length dress pants classic a la Audrey Hepburn, personally. (I just bought a pair last fall). As long as they are well made and fit perfectly they'll look classic rather than dated.

I think ankle dress pants have years yet! And one can always extend a starting to date item by pairing it with more modern components.

I recently realized that I never seem to like a trend until around the time I read on YLF that it is on the way out. For example, I stuck with my bootcut jeans for so long that apparently they're back in style! Not that they were ever totally "out" but you know what I mean. I just bought skinny jeans last year. Likewise my first top with dolman sleeves (not "out" yet, but Angie wrote about the trend in like 2009)! Now I am shopping for my first pair of slim ankle dress pants, only to find that big and flowy is back. Noooooo! Am I hopeless? Any advice? Luckily my style is kinda "classic" so I don't think I look all that bad.
