I totally agree with dressing up for interview. I had decided to wear the suit even though I knew the store chain is pretty casual (I just expected the interviewer to be in cool jeans, maybe a little jacket?).
One of those real life examples of how a corporate dress code needs to be more specific - more real life role models.

Agree with Amy, better to overdress than underdress, especially in a situation like that. You probably made your interviewer take a second look at her own wardrobe when she got home!

Thanks for your feedback on interview outfit - it turned out very modern and springy (would've been too warm for black pinstripe suit anywhere but SF today most likely - it was cold and foggy).

Turns out the person I interviewed with was not dressed up at all. It is a Jrs company (think Forever 21 but not F21 - I;d rather not say where) but she was dressed in casual-casual (Angie might say slacker casual). I was pretty surprised - knit tee, mid faded jeans with cut off hem, sandals.

If I DID decide to work there (the interview went well but I am not convinced it is right for me) I would at least wear updated smart casual to work.

Thanks for all the support!!
