I remember the Epilady in the mid 80's and heard it hurt; never tried it myself. It almost hurts MORE to have the wax grab at, but not pull out, the hairs (especially for armpits!). I don't wax but I do use an epilator (similar effect). HUGELY better than shaving, not even comparable. I've used it for years; I'm to the point now where I can do it once or twice a week, which just takes a few minutes, and I can happily wear sleeveless tops without any other work. If I don't need sleevless-perfect pits, once every week or two is enough.
