Kelly;
My hair is so coarse that when it is long enough to touch my shoulders, it feels like someone is beating me with a stiff hairbrush. For that reason, I could never wear it in braids.

lol--Ahem, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you--I have the coarsest asian hair. Now that it is turning gray, it is even worse (shudder.) When my hair was short and I wanted texture I used Bumble and Bumble Sumo wax (that I bought at the salon.) It is great for texturizing but it is pretty sticky. I used it to spike the top and tame the hair around my ears--so it wouldn't stick out. (Not great if you spend a lot of time on the phone.) I've also used Garnier Brillantine water based Styling Wax with good success but haven't seen it in stores lately.

Ulta has a huge styling product section. You might head there to get some product info. In general, I've found the drug store variety hair goos lacking when it comes to CAH (coarse asian hair.)

Good luck!

You might try Paul Mitchell Wax Works. Here's a link to it at Target.

i use Garnier Finishing Paste on my hair. It seems to work pretty well but I'm not an expert on hair products. My hair isn't particularly coarse although it is very thick. My hairdresser also gave me Sebastian Microweb Fiber which is similar but stickier. The Garnier is cheaper and easier to find so I tend to use it more.

I want the top layers of my short bob to clump; I guess it's called a piecey look? At any rate, I want it to look edgey. I have the world's coarsest hair even for an Asian, and I also need to take down some volume. Any recommendations? I am very ignorant when it comes to hair products; I was using Fruit of the Earth aloe vera but it doesn't really work! I just bought Under Control Molding Wax by Samy cuz it was cheap (and haven't opened it yet) but reviews for Samy producst on Makeup Alley are pretty bad. Oh, and I also need to know what type of place sells the product: Drug store/Sephora/Ulta/beauty supply.

Many thanks!
