I have long curly hair cut in layers and I have had luck with these products: John Frieda Collection Frizz-Ease Curl Around shampoo, Frizz-Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-In conditioner, Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Extra Strength Formula. Sometimes I use just the shampoo and add Tresemme Bouncy Curls Extra Hold defining gel. I tried John Frieda years ago and didn't like it so maybe they changed their ingredients. These all work so well that after smushing my curls down while sleeping I just have to spritz with water in the morning to bounce them back up.

The salt spray hasn't made my hair feel dry, but I haven't been using it for more than two days. I spray it on when my hair is soaking wet (no towel drying), and then I dry it while twirling the hair like Maya described. I also have healthy hair and haven't dyed it, so it may be less sensitive to the drying effects. I also use a shine spray that keeps my hair moisturized.

Shiny, your pictures are great! i also laughed at the last photo.

I've heard about the B&B spray and styling lotion - right now it's out of my budget but i'd like to try it in the future.

Hmm, salt works occasionally for me, but on a long-term basis it did dry my hair. I cannot daily use products with magnesium sulfate (which I understand is epsom salt).

I don't actually care much for their products in general. I'm very faithful to Aveda. For their outrageous prices, I have never experienced any outstanding effects with B&B. I liked that one effect though, just because it was so different for me. I'm sure if I tried surf spray on my straight hair, it would just look stringy and flat.

Oh Shiny, you look like Renee Zellweger in that last photograph. Very cute! Maya I believe the Bumble and Bumble spray has quite a cult following.

I didn't even know my hair had wave potential until I went for a free haircut at Bumble and Bumble. My stylist just sprayed some surf spray in my hair and twirled small sections around his finger while drying with a diffuser and I had wavy hair. I haven't been able to replicate it, but it definitely had a big impact, and sort of proves the theory.

Good timing - this topic is on my mind too!

I have heard of the sea salt trick, but never tried it. Like Rute, ocean water at the beach makes my hair curl but awfully dry. Did you spray the solution on while your hair was wet? Or dry?

When in Hong Kong, I'd blow my dry straight each morning, but within 15 minutes of walking outside, my hair would curl. Nothing could stop it from curling! The humidity was 90%. I like the effect when it does this, but I've never been able to recreate it on purpose. It just happens. If I let my hair air-dry naturally, it just looks like a frizzy mess.

Here are pics from the trip so you can see - each day it looked completely different! I would love to be able to recreate non-frizzy, loose curls like this for a change of pace:

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....ong088.jpg

... and my personal favorite, taken at the Peak, which was windy! (This pic cracks me up)

My hair is naturally wavy but I've never been able to figure out how to style it without it just looking unruly so I straighten it. But I really like your idea! Somedays I'm just too lazy to straighten my hair (and somedays I don't want straight hair) and I would love to find a way to make my waves look decent. I like that your experiment is very inexpensive too!

I'm in the curly, wavy club LE, I haven't tried a salt spray but may give your salt solution a whirl. I'm also paranoid about beauty products polluting the water ways. Did it make your curls feel dry?

I have wavy hair, and I've been looking for products to help encourage the natural texture while being 1) inexpensive 2)eco-friendly (mostly because I hate thinking about how much of my hair products just go down the drain at the end of the day) and 3)effective the whole day. I was tooling around on the internet about different "beach sprays" that help enhance the waves, and sea salt seems to be the main contributor to those products. (Lightbulb appearing above my head...)

This morning I mixed a tablespoon of sea salt with about a cup of warm water in a spray bottle, and I liberally spritzed it in, then scrunched my hair, drying it partially with a diffuser and then letting it air dry. It really helped! It was one of my best hair days in a long while! I know there have been a few threads on textured hair, and wanted to share. Has anyone tried this before?

Whoops - sorry this is in Body Type!
