Here is what the company responded:</p> <p><div>"We have checked into this and we would like to inform you that you can buy a spray protector for leather &amp; waterproof material from any shoe shop that you have nearby. You can spray them at the beginning of each season and once or twice now, in winter. </div><br /><div>"If you see any sign of water/salt filling it, you can take the boots to a dry cleaner to wash them, as they have special solutions and after that, to spray them."</p> <p>I hadn't thought of taking shoes to the dry cleaners. I just got some bone suede Cole Haan booties and sprayed them with Rust-Oleum's "Never Wet" last night. Today, there was a sheet of ice in the morning that melted and made some very muddy, completely submerged sidewalks at work. The Never Wet definitely saved the suede! It works very well on suede and nubuck. I use Moneysworth &amp; Best ProTex. Should I spray them with a suede protector like Meltonian or similar to keep surface stains off, or will it mess up the factory waterproofing? Sorry about the urgent - I'm going to wear them in a soon to arrive storm and want to keep them looking good. </p>
