I've done it with no issue. It may have made the color a shade darker, but nothing drastic.

I asked Born if the Cove boots needed waterproofing spray. This was the response:

They do come pretreated but if you do want to waterproof them we recommend doing a small area behind the heel just to make sure it does not stain or discolor.

I actually just emailed Blondo (inspired by this thread) because I bought a pair of Blondos this year that is seeing heavy wear. Here is what the company responded:

"We have checked into this and we would like to inform you that you can buy a spray protector for leather & waterproof material from any shoe shop that you have nearby. You can spray them at the beginning of each season and once or twice now, in winter.

"If you see any sign of water/salt filling it, you can take the boots to a dry cleaner to wash them, as they have special solutions and after that, to spray them."

I hadn't thought of taking shoes to the dry cleaners. My cobbler has something called "De-salter Stuff" that he uses to get rid of salt stains on shoes.

I'm a day late on this, and I wish I had seen it sooner! I just got some bone suede Cole Haan booties and sprayed them with Rust-Oleum's "Never Wet" last night. Today, there was a sheet of ice in the morning that melted and made some very muddy, completely submerged sidewalks at work. The Never Wet definitely saved the suede! Some of my staff who like to wear pristine white sneakers in the rainy Pacific Northwest swear by it.

@April thanks for linking to Angie's advice about cleaning suede - I need to pick up Magic Erasers to have on hand!

Try Crep Protect Ultimate Rain and Stain Shoe Spray. It works very well on suede and nubuck. Definitely spray those Born Cove boots to keep them looking great for years to come.

Yes, definitely spray them. Also see Angie's advice about cleaning light-colored suede -- apparently a Magic Eraser works well.

I sprayed my Blondos and they are still perfect a couple of years later. I'm pretty sure the shoe store had suggested it.

I bought Born Cove boots (in grey) last February and haven’t done anything to them. They look fine, and I hope they’re still waterproof. I’ll keep an eye on this thread to find out if I should be putting something on them.

I don't own Blondos but, I have a factory-waterproofed sneaker (Vans) and a boot (Cougar), and have sprayed both of them with a waterproofer. I use Moneysworth & Best ProTex. Both are on their second season of wear and still look like-new. Good luck!

I just bought a pair of these Born Cove waterproof suede boots, and I recently bought some Blondos. Should I spray them with a suede protector like Meltonian or similar to keep surface stains off, or will it mess up the factory waterproofing? Sorry about the urgent - I'm going to wear them in a soon to arrive storm and want to keep them looking good.
