I will be ordering these in a week or so near the time I return from a trip, so I won’t personally know how they are for two weeks. The reviews seem to be pretty good. They come in black, white, and a few other choices. The insoles are removable.

Suz, I know, right? Feet differ soooooo much! And comfort varies greatly because of it.

I think we have the same Salomon trail shoes. I don't like mine. My feet burn in them after a while. I never wear them.

I do soooo well in these rain boots! They are awesome, and somehow very comfy and breathable. I don't know why?????

Angie, so funny! As you say -- courses for horses! I find my Salomon trail shoes the most comfortable to wear on trails -- but in COOL weather only -- never warm weather, for the reason you state. In dry summer conditions I wear trail sandals. And of course it hardly ever rains here, in summer -- different from the original poster's needs, since it might indeed be rainy but warmish where they are, so you raise an excellent point.

Meanwhile, I have never found a rainboot I could stand wearing because my feet get sweaty in them! Wool socks definitely help in both situations, however. And my Blundstones or similar serve the same purpose, but not on the true trails. I think it's because my "trails" often involve a bit of climbing -- not true climbing with gear, but real pushing up off rocks and steep declines also.

It just goes to show, though, that no one shoe will work for each person, and that conditions vary enormously. I was looking at photos from a hiking friend who was on a major trip in Arizona -- I was pretty sure that nothing he wore on his feet would work for my own climate!

Dansko Paisley got me through a drenching downpour while traveling in Spain, and walking around all day in December in damp London and Edinburgh.

Great helpful info here! Thanks for sharing :)

FWIW Suz, I have waterproof Salomon trail shoes, and don’t find them comfortable despite their tedious and expert fitting experience in stores. They don’t breathe as La Ped mentioned. My feet feel stifled! I DO have hard to please feet and am probably in the minority :(

In the Winter I wear rain boots, or weatherproof leather casual boots for the excessive wet on rural mountain and beach trails with doggies. They work really well! Easy to clean the mud off too

Have you looked at Blondo? I have a few pairs of their sneakerish types of shoes. They are fairly comfortable, and probably look nicer than actual hiking shoes. For real comfort though, Salomon hiking shoes would be my choice.

Almost every athletic or outdoor shoe brand offers some waterproof models these days. You can look at Merrell, Keen, Oboz, Lowa, Salomon, etc if your taste skews outdoorsy and you want to be able to do some hiking. But Nike, Vans, etc all have some more urban waterproof styles if you’re sticking to sidewalks. The brands Hoka and On are both very popular right now (as much so in Europe as in North America, from what I saw last year), and manage to be both performance-oriented and trendy.

You might want to look for the word Gore-Tex in the product name or description; this is a pretty sure sign that it has a waterproof lining (as opposed to just a water repellant coating). Some retail websites will let you narrow your search by product feature too, so you can look just at waterproof models.

Also, remember that shoes with Gore-Tex or any other waterproof lining won’t breathe as well as a regular sneaker, so it’s a good idea to bring extra socks if your feet get clammy, and go for wool socks instead of cotton or synthetic. I find wool socks are *especially* important for comfort in less ventilated shoes and in rainy climates.

Have a great trip!!

I hate wet feet. I have a love my all birds mizzles. Comfy but they are definitely not a cute fashionable sneaker. https://www.allbirds.com/produ.....tiers=msrp

I recently got the sorel waterproof sneakers. Cute and fashionable, not quite as comfy as the all birds

I respectfully disagree with what Angie said here -- or at least I partly disagree.

I agree that in urban settings, a waterproof shoe is not necessary in summer -- a leather sneaker, perhaps treated with waterproofing spray, will do just fine! You can possibly even get away with fabric shoes if sprayed and/or if you have options (so that one shoe will dry out between wears).

However, if you are planning hikes in more rural areas or places that are rocky, and you may be walking away from places that are paved, in grasses, etc. a waterproof shoe could be really useful. Options might include a goretex sneaker (maybe a trail runner) or a pair of Blundstone (or similar) boots. Iceland is chilly and quite foggy/ wet even in summer and you might be hiking off road there, unless you are confining your trip to Reykjavik. If you'll only be in town there, I wouldn't worry -- everything is paved.

Do not depend on wheeled luggage. It will get soaked in the rain. It will not work in Venice and have to be carried on bridges over canal's. All that I had packed needed to be dried out before it could be worn. Get waterproof luggage. Waterproof sneakers are a good idea for Europe. Do water shoes help? I noticed Land’s End had some espadrilles for water and rocky beaches in their latest catalog. I have some navy water shoes from Walmart ghat look like sneakers. They have been worn as sneakers.

I live in wet Seattle, and am on foot most of the time. Same when I'm in wet Western Europe, the UK, or Northern Europe visiting family and friends. I don't own waterproof sneakers! FWIW, you don't need them. Regular comfy and supportive sneakers are fine :)

What you DO need is outerwear with a hood that is knee-length. Umbrellas blow inside out with the wind - useless - and you need your hands free to carry things.
